From Valerie Bertinelli's blog on the Jenny Craig Website:

A Different Kind Of Milestone

I wanted to weigh in on something different this week (seeing as I missed my appointment with Kathy.) But for a good reason! My son, Wolfie, performed in his VERY first Van Halen concert ever!!!! So Tom and I jumped on the road with him to provide support and some TLC. Talk bout the jitters. It’s funny…as an emotional eater, I used eat, eat and eat whenever stressed or nervous before Jenny. Wolfie is the complete opposite! He could not eat a thing the day before OR the day of the concert. As his mother, I was so concerned…how as he going to have the stamina to perform without at least getting a little nourishment down him? So his dad, Tom and I went down a list of all his favorite things…anything to tempt him. I would have gotten him an ice cream sundae had I thought it would help!

But you know what he wanted?

JENNY’S SUNSHINE SANDWICH!

Voila! We had stocked his bus with a case of them, thank goodness. (They really are good.) Anyway, he was SO fantastic. The night was magical for all of us. To see my baby up there, in front of thousands of people…I can’t even put into words how proud I was of him that night. And a great reminder that we’re all human…famous or not, we all put one pant leg on at time, we all get nervous about doing a good job, and, yes…we even get cravings for Sunshine Sandwiches

I guess it never ocurred to Val that it wouldn't hurt Wolfie to miss a meal...or two or three.
He should start doing copious amounts of blow - weight loss AND instant energy!

Lord, that is sad. Someone should pull a Linda McCartney on DLR and isolate his vocals.

Some Guy I looked and didn't see this specifically anywhere else, but I got more promising news yesterday regarding a potential 2nd leg of the tour, in addition to the already-scheduled 3/30 St. Louis show.

Got an email from the local (Atlanta) radio station stating that VH looks to be hitting ATL in early 2008 and that the station will have an announcement this Friday at 5pm.

The jinn, my friend. And now for a little fun~
I labored over this writing for days and months working my mind's eye on this original.
;-)
I am getting temptations and inclinations. The primal call to titivate and experience the heat in a sea of people is pounding through my core. I had to let loose the visions in my head. To wit I spread out my imagination and laid down my words. Satisfaction, it feels good.

Delighted boys... although I DO have a job with the luxury of posting on message boards all frisky day, lol

Ok. You want me to tell the reality, and stroke you with the God’s truth?

In one word: Smiling

Joy, my friends.

To begin it was a soothing stroll from the parking lot to the UC! I absorbed every retro flashback from the early 80's within the first 5 minutes. The thought running through my mind was, “NEVER GROW UP, completely!" Moreover, it got better after each row of cars I passed! (Delightedly Sway; I did take a close look at the makes and models. I read your comment about the Camero's before I left. I delighted myself.) Then, this sunny bonus approaches my son with an armful of blue collar T's. I intertwine my eyes with the person, politely telling him, ' thanks'. Soothingly, He precedes us to crusade (almost prayerful!) and I fluff around, flash open my jacket (whereas my beloved, big, bold, V-tee envisions the attendant and he takes a step back. I am bold. I take a step forward and look him in the eye, "Hey, I want one of those!" We continue and about 20 yards later, I hear, "Yea! I have smoked with Keith!" Usually, those are espousing words. Nevertheless, I merely hurled my arm around, slapped and grabbed the left cheek of my buttocks and gave him high-salute. Hope he enjoyed the grass!

What a Memory....

My son and I ride the wake in through the tailgates (all of which looked to have party was in progress, btw...) and made our way inside. We head directly to the bar. I knew I the custom was to indulge without more ado. It feels protected there. The lot was so wild! I have not seen so much "big hair" in two decades. I hope the bathroom attendant has lots of hairspray! As I am wanting to prep me up!
Jc (gosh the dream part; I wish I was groomed. Can I go home?)
I grab my martini and start unfastening my hair!

Off to find our seats. Much to my surprise, we were escorted. Now, I have to give kudos I was well handled. Thank you! I give euphoriaT Thanks for coming through for me! (Oh, I am starting to be obligated, big time!) There were 10 other people with us (none of whom I experienced), but I felt safe as they were all individual types there for the event as my son and I were, giggle. As soon as we settled in, the house lights went down.

"Praise and applauds all around! The show approaches", I thought to myself.(wow that’s a familiar song!) Maybe I should quit going to so many revivals.

And this is when the “wonderful “part cames into play.

Can I tell you? The vision of a memory: of the first set 2 or 3 songs;
7-minute songs were... Just a whirl in my mind!
I was so busy trying to place the faces with remembrance. It was candid for me to connect with the ambiance. It was essentially pleasant and wonderful to watch. What made the affair better was glancing up at the huge screen behind the stage trying to see if it was really THEM. In all fairness, I found myself looking, and that I established and appreciated. ~Musician~ Eddie really is. That is when the songs began to intermingle.

Kids...the person looks like a God send - but if you can get with that, you understand, it was Eddie at his best. He can play DtD - I have to give credit were credit is due.

Dave? Good God, I seek pleasure of costume. You do pleasure me! The provisions from the gathers were extraordinaire. The numbers of bare breasted. Yes; uniformly, flashing nudity and protectionism of your rock was a delight to envision. May I say: Standardized. No branding needed! MOREOVER, the performance elevates! Fantastic release! At some points, the tension, you sensed the tension, between the proper protocols - and gardians. When Eddie flashed his look, Dave's swanked a spin with a winning notch.

Alex - he revolutionize.

Little Wolfgang; he is still very tender however give him an era or two. With due influance given the opportunity; I expect him ruling. What kid would not! It did take him a while to "unfreeze" from his spot on stage, lol He is more at ease if Eddie was within an arm's length to him.

We did stay for the encores; I needed the influence. I think my good behavior was notable. As inclusive, as sections were, I sat tight.

Briefly, if you catch one of their shows...keep every nuance. Moreover, for God's sake do encourage Roth's antics.

Oh! The mega die-hard fans? Deliver to them. They are substantial. I had fun just walking in the parking lot!

Musically, I do think Van Halen is very wicked this time around, including the gear they tote around with them..

Van Halen
Meadowlands Izod Center
East Rutherford, New Jersey
United States of America
November 3, 2007

Notes: I was going to call this one "Meltdown at the Meadowlands," but after I heard the sound quality, not to mention the fact that it is incomplete, I decided to pass on the formalities such as titles, artwork, etc. The show is in the category of forgettable (or unforgettable..depends how you look at things). I guess the high point of the evening's drama was Eddie Van Halen stomping around like a 3-year old because his guitar cable kept getting tangled (as he yanked on it violently)...no wait...it would have to be him screaming..SCREAMING at the tech guys on the side of the stage for the better part of the show...no...the part where he flipped the monitor over, because it was either too loud, or he didn't like what was coming out of it..no...maybe it was when he picked said monitor up and threw it across the stage...NO..I got it..it was when he proceeded to pick up the monitor and throw it OFF the stage. That was it.

I'm not making any of this up.

There were some other noteworthy occurrences..like during one of Ed's fits, where he was switching guitars.."and the Cradle Will Rock" starts..only problem is..Ed is not holding a guitar..but it starts nonetheless, with the swoosing flanged guitar..that's he's not playing..it's pre-recorded..so is the rhythm part..I'm pretty sure it's a keyboard, but I never noticed it, because he was usually playing. This show seemed to measure up to the KC show everyone was talking about..except Dave was great. I gained a newfound respect for him tonight, as he was the consumate professional as his bandmate stomped, sneared and screamed through 90% of the show, during which he paid little attention to his playing, stopping at times, screwing up at others. After the monitor toss, he pretty much threw and swatted at anything and everything in his path.

I feel bad for Wolfie too. I can tell this is all getting to him fast. He looked like he wanted to be ANYWHERE else for pretty much the entire show. At times I caught him staring at Ed with this "what the f*ck??" look on his face. At one point, after one of his meltdowns, I guess Ed realized that yeh..there are like 10,000 people watching this, he tried to do his goofy dancing and jumping pikes, then he goes over to Wolfie's side and picks up a straw cowboy hat, puts it on, then tries to put it on Wolf, only Wolfs backs up, slaps the hat away, then proceeds to kick it off the stage into the crowd.

This thing is unravelling..fast. After the monitor throwing incident, Ed came back up and looked almost possessed. Very sad indeed. Sad for everyone involved. Sad for the fans that shelled out $500 to be in the VIP circle. Actually, it was sad for any fan who shelled out even $1 to see this charade tonight. Saddest of all for the multi-millionaire guitarist whose band is making 1.5 million per show that he can't put everything aside for 2 hours a day, play his music and act like a swell guy.

In any event..here it is. The recording matches the performance. BTW - I'm not on the whole VH-bashing bandwagon either. I'm just really disgusted at the show Ed turned in last night. I considered not going to MSG next week, but figured I might as well, and hopefully go out on a high note.

I also tried some new mics on this one, and was not happy at ALL with the results. I'm going back to my old setup for the next show. Could have been any combo of factors though..sour spot for recording, bad mix, bad mic placement. Who knows. Couldn't have happened at a better show though.

i was at this concert. eddie has a right to be pissed off. his tech couldnt even tune his guitar right. when eddie played the beginning of ain't talkin about love, you could tell that he was hitting the right notes in sequence, but it was out of tune. i had floor seats and saw him drag his monitor off the stage to his sound guy to fix. this is rock n roll, he doesnt need to be polite. i would have done the same thing, except a little more pete townsend style. after the tossed his monitor, everyone on the floor, atleast around me, were chanting "eddie! eddie!" other than eddie being pissed a few times, he played amazingly!
however, i have a new found respect for diamond dave! he was fan-fucking-tastic. he kept the crowd going when eddie was stragling. hes also very well in shape too, still doing all of his showman kicks! id definately go see them again if i had the $ to spare. but really, these guys can still rock!!
