tookthatname Just my 2 cents,

I'd like to see this tracker remain lossless, unless a torrent is specifically approved by Gazza, Charlotte, Voodoo or whoever wants to take that responsibility on.

If you have a lossy torrent, I think either take your case to them for a exception to the rule BEFORE posting it, or you could post it at another tracker, then put a link in the forum.

If a lossy torrent really sounds better, then maybe it could have an exception. but it would NEED to be approved beforehand and labeled as such. exceptions should also be just that, EXCEPTIONS!!!

Well, good point!
That's how I though things works here.

gimmekeef There sure is something to be said about keeping the file integrity and not taking wav or flac etc into a "lossy" mp3.Besides the folks who tape and willingly share ask for this not to be done.In that spirit then I dont think spreading mp3s on a lossless tracker is a good thing.Even though to be honest my ears cant tell the difference and if it sounds good to me it could be mp1 for all I care...

Usually this is how the process has worked. There are exceptions, Gazza,Mac,Voodoo and I discuss the request and then make a decision(usually within 24 hours). That's the best way to handle those situations. But just putting a lossy file on the Tracker is not the way to do it.
Thanks!

gonzalo76 Some importants things were mentioned here and I would like to add my 2 cents:

1. First of all, ask Gazza,Voodoo or Charlote about your lossy source. They will make a decision. But don't put it on the tracker whithout their authorization.

2. If the concert is not available in lossless format, why do you have to share it in lossy format here? This is a lossless site.

3. If the show is available in lossless format and is active on the tracker, but somebody said that his lossy source sounds better because it comes from another source and blah blah blah...forget it, don't share it here. This is a lossless site.

4. If somebody needs to share that lossy show anyway, instead of uploading it on the tracker, just post a link here where this lossy show is, i.e IORR or maybe mininova, I don't know.

5. Rules are rules, and because there are no "real" Mods here like Dime, you can't do what you want. You have to follow some rules which are not really a lot. No lossy crap and no official material here. Is this very hard to follow?

6. POISONIVY did really a mess with all his "I don't know the source" torrents, the majority where lossy, and I was the only one who analized his torrents and told here that he was sharing lossy sources. Finally he gave up and thanks God, he disappeared.

7. drno12 said something really interesting. If a torrent was downloaded 45 times, it doesn't mean that these guys read this Bit Torrent Thread first. They just entered to the RO tracker and start downloading all the new torrents. I never saw 45 guys saying "thank you" to the seeder ever. We are always the same guys who thanked the seeders. Nobody new.

All the best,
Gonzalo

P.S: Shouldn't we hire a Dime Mod here?

MRD8 Gonzalo,
You've made some very valid points...this isn't strictly a torrent site like DIME is, the mods here have other things to do besides watch the torrents...we(meaning the handful of us) who seed and monitor this place the most need to be VERY strict about what is put up here...too bad there's not a way to force seeders to come on the thread and at least give some idea of what they are seeding...I must admit that I know the lineage of very few of my boots, audio OR video...whenever I uploaded something here I made a point of announcing on the thread what I was uploading and as much info as I knew! I think this tracker can police itself, 99% of the leechers here have never thanked anyone for what they get here!
14th May 2007 07:41 PM
AndyPetu MRD8 we miss you!

Thanks to all the seeders anyway!

Pauli This new lossy quality Detroit 81 sounds really great. Anyone else has listened it yet? Any opinions?

Of course it is mp3 and I don't collect them myself. But I am glad I had opprtunity to hear it.
15th May 2007 05:25 PM
gonzalo76 Yes, it sounds really good, but I can't compare it with the lossless sources because I don't have them here with me.

Many thanks for sharing it and many thanks for taking the time to remove the silences between the tracks and the repeated announcement before "She's So Cold". Nice job.

Hope you understand it was nothing personal against you or something like that. Rules are rules you know, and we (the members of RO) are all Mods here, like you and me. We don't need Dime Mods here.

All the best,
Gonzalo

P.S: This time, freqs above 15.5 KHz were cut off and again, a nice "hair cut" can be seen.

Wolfgang's Vault encoded their files in MP3 format at 256 kbps using CBR mode. I would like to know what encoder they use.

If I were them, I would encode the files using LAME v.3.97 in VBR mode using the best quality this mode has: "-V 0 --vbr-new". This setting will produce transparent encoding (transparent = most people cannot distinguish the MP3 from the original in an ABX blind test). I always use VBR "-V 0 --vbr-new" mode for personal use.

VBR will almost always produce equal or better perceived-quality results than CBR for files of the same size or average bitrate, and this has been demonstrated in numerous double-blind listening tests. CBR "-b 320" is a waste of space and quality is rarely better than the highest VBR profiles.

All lossless codecs are, by nature, VBR.

I want to say thanks for that, and to second the "thanks God, he disappeared" part.
I don't download much here, and certianly nothing from him.
I don't like how you have to look in this thread for the anounce posts, then try to find the show on the tracker. I find it hard to figure out. I did download the wrong thing before. It's not impossable, and I will deal with any rules the management makes.
But this brings me to my second point, would it possable to make it mandatory to post a discription. And would it be possable to link the two together? The link could be from either end, this thread or the tracker. Like most other sites?
Thanks Mike

I can't help you exactly with the CD you're looking for but it is just the incomplete show from July 13 filled up with some tracks from July 11 (video sbd source). Both shows are available on other releases in better quality and completely. So I don't know why you're looking for exactly this one?
