speedfreakjive I have to say, I am getting excited now about the show!!!
I'll probably stay up and watch it, having been out last night. I have a feeling it could be a monumental moment in musical history, not to mention the Stones' history. I can't wait!

Ok, thanks for that...I used Macdaddy's info about the LA area so I assumed it was the same for everywhere else.

Gazza BBC News 24 (Channel 507 on Sky in the UK) have been running a 3 minute report from Rio at around 25 minutes past the hour, although theres no actual 'live' footage from the event

They said a couple of hours that over half a milion were there already. The main security concern is the fact that unlike the New Years Eve carnival which takes up the entire beach, this crowd is confined to the top third of the beach where the stage (opposite the band's hotel) is.

speedfreakjive I would be more concerned about possible drownings Gazza.
people may get pushed into the sea! and what with all the drugs and alcohol that is no doubt flying around!!

This is true

Thing is, at Rio they are used to huge gatherings on the Copacabana. However, when you get 2-3 million on a beach in Rio on new Years eve, having a couple of fatalities and a few sexual assaults or robberies may be considered relatively "trouble free" in the context of the scale of the event. However, when that happens at a rock concert (as the Stones are aware from past experience) thats considered a disaster and very bad publicity.

Surround Sister Actually; is there anybody out there who really believe Mick jagger would do anything for free... Will he let someone broadcast a show that thousands & millions can watch... WITHOUT PAYING? No, no, no.
Watch out noses grow long from this disappointment.

LadyJane "What the fuck were we thinking agreeing to do THIS?"

Limbostone Hello, all.

On iorr, which suffers from overcrowding a bit at the moment, people are worried about the starting time. Some are stubbornly holding to 0:30 Central European Time.

If they'd read your extensive post above Gazza, they'd settle down.

Regards, Limbo

I dont think its been suggested that the Stones arent being paid for this

After all, they were paid several million dollars for both the SARS and NRDC "charity" shows on the last tour

Even if theyd done it for free, the millions they make in broadcast rights from the theatre broadcast and the DVD release will make it a HUGE payday!

the city council have financed the event (I read it cost $10 million to stage) , which (presumably) will also cover any fee the Stones are getting
18th February 2006 07:28 PM
Gazza It seems that what we may be getting is a 'delayed' broadcast

The BBC report at 11.25 stated that the show was beginning "in about 30 minutes" and someone on IORR reports a wire story from Brazil that they opened the show 30 minutes ago with "Jumpin Jack Flash"

Time will tell
