Gazza What amazing photos from SV - what an incredible birthday weekend you must have had. jaggergurl got to meet the band? WTF?

I dont even need to hear a bootleg of this show to know that it will rank as one of the greatest performances of Mick's career.

And, as one of many people who consider that the amount of money that some of these performers make is plain silly, if ever there was a night when Mick earned every cent of it, it was Saturday night.

What a trooper.

monkey_man I got back from Vegas last night and clear thoughts are just starting to come back to me! Saturday I was on pins and needles not having any internet connection. . .I had no idea of the status of the show/ Mick's Dad. I walked to the MGM to pick up my ticket early in the afternoon. The casino was filled with Stones fans and the casino's soundsystem was even playing an occasional Stones tune. Good signs! I picked up my ticket not knowing where the seat was before hand. . . opened the envelope and saw Sec 11 Row AA!!! I got a major TINGLE!! I knew it was first row but thought Sec 11 was just off stage left, so I was bouncing off the walls for the rest of the day!(I figured out later that the chart I had seen had the stage on the wrong side. . . My ticket was actually on stage right, by the B Stage). I connected with Poplar and his girlfriend for a quick drink before the show. Poplar is good people. . . .I really enjoyed meeting him and his girlfriend! From there I stumbled to Zuri's to check out the scene there. Place was blasting the Stones and filled with Stones people. . .many Shidoobees there. From there, walked another 1/2 mile and went into the Arena! While in the lobby waiting for Bonnie Raitt's set to end, I ran into a friend from SF who dropped the bomb that Jagger's Dad had passed earlier in the day. I couldn't believe that he still was going on with the show! The show itself was nothing short of phenomenal. The sound, the setlist, the performances. . .amazing. The only way I can describe it was 2 hours of pure joy for me. Jagger put his all into the show. During the B Stage set I was able to get about 3 seats away from the stage on Chucks side. Such a treat to be that close while the band worked the crowd. I ended up with one of Chucks many pics that he tossed out. I know that this was most likely my last show. As the show ended, all I could think of was that I wanted another one. . .it was that good! Either that or I'm an addict that keeps saying that they'll kick after just one more time! Any bitterness that I had about AC has been long since washed away!! My heart goes out to Mick. . .I still can't believe that he went on with the show.

You are right on all counts, Gazza. I will never forget some of the images from that night. Mick looked very determined to give us a great show. The other members of the band were really there for him. They all touched him whenever they got the chance. I was heartbroken for him.

How he could sing "Streets of Love" so beautifully without ever having a crack in his voice, or showing any of the emotions he must have been feeling is a mystery to me.

What a showman. What a band. What a birthday.

I was at Zuri's for a little while and I looked for you MM. I thought I'd be able to recognize you from your "Charlie drumstick" photo, but I did not see you. It was hot and crowded in there, so we decided to head to the venue and drink there instead.

Quite a show, wasn't it?

Poplar After some wicked plane delays - we got back at 3am (too much noise...). This is going to be one long day of work, but I wanted to offer some plreliminary thoughts.

Monkey_Man summed up teh pre-show vibe pretty well. Excitement, tempered by that slight worry that it may not happen. But once 6 o'clock rolled around, it felt like all systems go. Great meeting MM. The 3rd ROer I've met in one week and all three were a true pleasure. Thanks for the drink, buddy, glad you had a great time.

The show was stellar. Really nothing short of an A+ performance. I was awed by it, and my girlfriend came out in complete amazement, and bummed we can't do LA (not sure she was looking forward to that one beforehand). We stopped by Zuri's for the post show gathering and heard about Mick's dad. I think that's when a lot of people heard about it, and you could sense the overwhelming respect people had for Mick - not just for performing, but for performing at a level I have never seen before. There are no words for how I feel about that man. And Keith may have played the best show I've ever seen form him. He was on fucking fire. Sympathy almost knocked me off my feet.

I'll give a real write-thru after work, but one more thought: Keith giving the two-armed worshiping bow (usually reserved for Charlie) to Mick at the end. He also put his arm around mick a few times. I'm tearing up thinking about it. It was an amazing night for the fans, but I also suspect that was a powerful show for the band as well.

At show's end - so many emotions... but mostly pride. I'm so fucking proud to be a fan of the Rolling Stones. Some peoople find CHrist in their lives. I found our band. I know so many of us at times have drifted towards writing these guys off, but I'll never do it again. Whether or not it was my last show, who knows - but Saturday was yet another revelation.

Monday - caught ANOTHER Charlie drumstick. Saturday, the boys showed up inspite of it all, and delivered a show beyond anything I thought possible. Thank you Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Charlie. I love you guys. Don't Stop.

The drumstick photo from Oakland was of Poplar, not me! I was in Zuri's from about 8-8:45 and then for about an hour after the show! I was looking for you you as I had a pretty good idea of what you looked like from your AC photos. I can't believe we didn't run into each other in the lobby downstairs in the arena. . .not a very big space as far as I could tell! I loved the show! My first time hearing Sway!

Lets not overrate the show simply based on emotion. From what I see, it was pretty standard, and nothing out of the ordinary other than MJ perfroming, when most of us would rather be grieving with our families.

I think Poplar would be the best to judge this because he didn't find out about Mick's Dad until AFTER the show!! You weren't there. . .shut yer piehole!!!

Both of you can tell me whatever you need to my face as I am at plenty of shows and have never made myself unavailable. Personal attacks don't really cut it. I can't ever recall telling someone whom I disagreed with here to "go fuck themsleves" or to "shut yer piehold" . I was responding to Gazzza's post, and neither one of you were mentioned.

What is the bitterness about? Really, JB I wouldn't expect you to be one of the ones here to put down someones good experience at a show (there are many here I would expect it from) What gives?

I don't appreciate being told to fuck off or to shut up even on a message board. I don't use that language towards anyone and it is down right uncalled for. My feeling was that it was not something I would do(perform) if my dad died ...that's it...but to be subject to that kind of verbal abuse, well, all I can say is I am disgusted by it.

I think you are taking my "shut yer piehole" comment a little too seriously. It was said half in jest. . .if I wanted to lay down any kind of verbal insult it would have been much harsher. My apologies if it offended you.
The show really kicked ass though.

neither does offering criticism of a show ya didn't see, chief.

Don't YOU even get tired of your own whining, moaning, bitching shtick? Truth is, only someone like yourself could take Saturday and find something to gripe about. Truth is, I could have predicted that response from you before the show even happened, and that absolutely says it all about you.

i'm done with this conversation now. i can only blame myself for allowing such a sorry bastard to upset me. what a waste of my own energy. i must be tired.

Seen about 20 shows now.. and Vegas was one of maybe two that really felt like something special. I enjoyed them all, but Saturday was striking, even not knowing about Mick's dad. Kind of humbling. We all bitch at times, but Saturday just buried all of that for me. They have given us so damn much, and the cost of teh ticket for that show NEVER crossed my mind Saturday - and not once since then. Like I said earlier - I'm exceedingly pround to be a fan of these fellas. That show was brilliant.
