They did a private show for Pepsi in Kona, Hawaii in January 1998 and were paid at least $4 million. The show took place in a tent in front of about 4,000 people, many of whom didnt even stay for the whole show. A crew member who I got to know on the 1999 UK tour told me he'd actually seen the contract and they were contracted to play for 90 minutes. They did a 16-song set lasting exactly that long. As part of the arrangement, they licensed 'Brown Sugar' for a Pepsi ad for half time at the Superbowl a few days later.

There was also a private show for the 60th birthday of a Texan billionaire named David Bonderman at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on November 2002 before a crowd of about 1,700 people. The Stones were paid $7 million and played for about 90 minutes, playing 17 songs. John Mellencamp was the opening act and comedian Robin Williams also did a performance.

THis is one show that young Jacob Cohl can sit back and relax. The Stones have gotten their check (or a contract to receive one) and very few will know many details from this show!

Well done young Jacob!

you can be sure a large gathering of true fans
will be outside this venue
with high hopes of getting in to see Blondie and his acoustic guitar wizardry.
Jacob Cohl should be condemned and certainly not applauded for any of his ham-fisted and shabby business malpractices.
This concert may well be remembered as a humiliating and defining chapter in Rolling Stones history.

Sadly, I must respectfully disagree.

Young Jacob (who is like a son to Mick!) has brilliantly papered several venues that would not be half sold (see: Student Discounts, giveaways, etc).

After the violence that erupted in the crowd in Rome, I think we can expect Blondie's wonderful fills to be enjoyed only by the top echelon of the German corporate banking structure after being carefully screened for security threats.

Being that this is a private show, the Stones will be able to have "final say" on all security issues. I predict that security will be tight and anyone caught loitering will be escorted off the grounds....we don't want another "Rome"

You are a fine fan and an excellent addition to Rocks Off! Sadly, most here don't realize that without Jacob Cohl, the echoes would be terrible from all of the open seats!

there was no violence in Rome
fans trespassed into the FOS area where they had no right to be. that is not violence that is trespassing.
trespassing that should have been deslt with by security, but which wasn't.
and does it not concern or worry you, as a supposed Stones fan, that post-2007, the only opportunity that you're likely to get to see the band is in a corporate/private closed-doors to public, setting?(assuming you're a bilionaire or have contacts with such individuals)

I agree to an extent. Beyond the tresspassing, fans were pushed and trampled out of the way, also at least three bottles of adult beverages were violently hurled at Mick Jagger! They band may be forced to play private shows for their own safety....or at least simply play in Omaha.

How ironic. The 45th anniversary of the greatest rock n roll band in the world is marked by a private show in a museum where they're the cabaret entertainment for a group of bankers.

Yes....and Keith was worried about Mick's knighthood tarnishing the Stone's image.

gustavobala ohhhh see the good size of the things, Gazza...

As a successful businessman, I appreciate sound fiscal business decisions, particularly when it pertains to my favorite band!

thankyou- your concerns for the bands finances is commendable, if misguided and at the expense of their
fanbase.
i've enjoyed this debate and look forward to more with you in the future.
