>There is nothing positive happening in the Arab world. Period
They hate us because they hate what the have and haven't
become<
So our response is to kill them all?
Our immediate response to 9/11 in Afghanistan was just. We hit Al-Queda hard, and destroyed their safe harbor, thier base of operations. That was the right action to take. And I think most of the world was with us on that one. Even some of the Arab world.
But Iraq is a whole different can of worms. Our current administration invented reasons to go after Saddam. Saddam supported Al-Queda, and is going to give weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.
They couldn't link Saddam to Bin Laden. In fact, intelligence showed that the two guys hated each other. And we are still looking for those nasty WMDs. We have looked under every rock in Iraq trying to find those damn things...and nothing. Maybe that's why G.W. wants to send astronauts to Mars....to see if Saddam hid those nasty weapons there!
No, the real reasons we went into Iraq are ugly and base. Revenge and job security. Revenge for not only 9/11(which Iraq didn't really have anything to do with...it was mostly Saudis and Egyptians...but those are our Arab pals, we can't fight them!), but revenge for the contract that Saddam put on George Bush Sr. Revenge for all the criticism that the elder Bush got for not finishing things in Iraq the first time. Gee Dubya is gonna make things right for Daddy.
Job security...see my earlier post in this thread.
The Bush Administration has fucked up big time. They planned for the Iraqis to welcome us with open arms. They planned wrong. They obviously had no real workable plan for the post Saddam Iraq. Well, they had a plan, but it was based on the grateful Iraqis co-operating. I don't think they seriously considered that the opposite of that would happen. We should have listened right after Saddam fell into our hands. The Iraqis said, thank you for getting rid of Saddam...now please leave quickly. And we should have. But that would not have made political sense for the Bush Administration. So we stay, and we kill, and we get killed.
So what happens on June 30th when we hand over power back to the Iraqis and they say "GET THE FUCK OUT!". Will we leave? Or just move into Iran, or Syria, for more death and destruction? Is there even a plan to get us out? Or are we going to have a permenant "peacekeeping" mission in Iraq?
I don't like John Kerry. But I sent him a check. If I have to choose between an ineffectual president, or a dangerous president...I'll pick ineffectual, and hope that the FBI, CIA, INS, and military have learned their 9/11 lessons.

Actually...his wife is worth most of that $500 million.
And yes, I sent his campaign a check. I had to do something. I just can't sit back and not even TRY to help get rid of Lil' George.
Bush Jr. is BAD for the United States. The only way to get rid of him is to vote for Kerry. So I did what little I could actually do. I'm saving my biggest contribution for November...at the polls...by giving Kerry my vote.

I don't support this administration in everything it does. I think some of the tax cuts were misdirected. The Palestinian peace process is a joke. I think they should strengthen environmental laws. I think the budget has been added to unnecessarily. Yet, the economy is humming along. 308,000 jobs were added last month. The DJIA is healthy. The WOT is a must. It's not a distraction from other things; it's a necessity to prevent yahoos from killing us again. I haven't sent any checks to the Bush/Cheney 2004 folks lately but it's about time I did. |

When I was @ SXSW, I was at The Continental Club. Arriving early to get my front row seat for Ian "Mac" Mclagan, one of the honchos for the event strolls in for the 8 o'clock surprise gig, announces it's Kris Kristopherson. I hangout for it. He starts this Al Franken/Barbara Streisand rant about how Bush dragged us into this mess in Iraq, how our boys are getting killed, it's another Vietnam, we should throw him out of office.
I yelled at him "Hey" he glared at me. Told him, "Ask all of the Kurdish people Saddam gassed in the North if they are not happy we are there? Or the parents with raped daughters and mamed, brualized sons from Uday and Queasy, (whatever) their names are, that they are not happy we are there. Support the troops, we will get the job done. Just shut up and play your music". It was a Sprint moment, to be sure. Friggin beatnik one hit wonder the likes of Jimmy Buffett I've ever heard.
The fact is, intel provided to the US was faulty regarding location of WMD to date. If there is anyone to believe, it's Colin Powell, and while it's certain some ugly crap has gone down in the whole process, which will happen in any conflict, Saddam is eliminated. As Bush has said, we cannot wait for things like 9/11 to happen, without taking action. In addition, I would not be so certain that Saddam did not have further terrorist links, once the money flows are verified, I think it will be proven where and whom Saddam was sending bling to, and is is all to fund terrorism. Finally, sorry to advise, as a lifelong Mass resident, we are not getting anything worthwhile with Lifeshot Kerry. He's never met a decision he can stick to. The troops will not be pulled from Iraq, just outfitted with madras pants and flowers in their hair.

Its unfortunate to see that the Republican party has successful managed to propose and support the notion that anyone, and I mean anyone, who opposes any form of the BushCo's "war on terror" plans be labled as "liberal, cheese-eating, tree-hugging, hairy-legged, birkenstock wearing, France-loving pussies". Just so I understand - killing makes you a non-pussy or conversely, not bulldozing a society makes you a pussy?
I'm not saying that the Iraqi's aren't better off - they are (I think) and Sadaam sucks and all that, but it's just that the level of lies that we were told as the basis for invading Iraq are impeachable. If Clinton was on the verge of being impeached for lying about a bj in front of a grand jury, what responsibility do you hold for W for lying about WMD or Iraq/9/11 connection with over 600 US soldiers killed??
Take your head out of the sand - Iraq was in US crosshairs the moment W got into office. O'Neil (Bush appointee) said it, Clarke said it and Rummy, Cheney and Wolfie had published that report in the 90's about a post-Sadaam Iraq and business and oil possibilities and how we could "manage" that.
Don't you see? Remember the whole, "your with us or against us" mantra or the fact that this admin used 9/11 to get a whole bunch of legislation through and then criticized anyone who questioned it (Patriot Act). They basically politicized 9/11 to accomodate their agenda and told everone to go to France if you didn't like it.
I'm still a diehard, flag-waving American. Just don't bullshit a bullshitter. |

Just so I understand - killing makes you a non-pussy or conversely, not bulldozing a society makes you a pussy?"
Then you go on about Clintoon's impeachment. It's just the same old partisan crap that people try time & again. Face it" You're a Dem. If Bush wasn't in Iraq, you'd be ranting about that. And Clintoon's impeachment...

hahahah, seriously Glennie, I'm not. But I think that BushCo has seriously fucked up with Iraq, that's all.
I wasn't defending Clinton at all, but merely trying to do a compare/contrast with examples of Presidential lies and their consequences, that all. I am not a closet Dem.
Come on glennie, you gotta admit that anytime anyone questions republicans or Pro-Bushies with the current admin's efforts on the WOT, they respond with comments like Bloozehound made earlier(Fuck the Arabs, nuke them, the UN sucks (I partly agree), Demos are liberal, tax-raising pussies). That's their right to opine as the do, but it is what it is.
Do you acknowledge that?

Thank god for the hawks
Fortunately for their quick and decisive action we've prevented anymore horror and bloodshed on US and our allies soil
There will be order out of chaos after we eliminate the eight hubs of terrorism.
1. Afghanistan - down
2. Iraq - down
3. Libya - surrendered
next
4. Iran
5. North Korea
6. Syria
Then we'll have to figure out how to deal with these yo - yo's
7. Saudi Arabia
8. Pakistan
They had their chance & they blew it.
