Sorry jb, but the "stupid summitts" comment was an insult to myself and Parmeda, two of your supposed friends.

Enough is enough!
The Stones have died. Let's cherish our memories. |

another topic about jb?
After the events that transpired last year, we both made it clear that we would not be attending any summits....I shall attend Shidoobee Wildwood with my wife, but no major parties/gatherings before/after shows.
Curious as to why it has hurt you now? |

Every fan here loves to see the Stones. I think the negative feedback you're hearing is because so many people recognize and don't appreciate having it stuck to them. I attend a lot of shows by a lot of other artists in Chicago, and NO ONE else has doubled their ticket prices in a year.
It doesn't make me any less of a fan because I'm not foolish enough to think that money doesn't count when it comes to the Stones. The price gouging puts a whole new twist on "let it bleed..."

Summitting is good clean fun. I'm very disappointed in JB and Pug.
I have made friends that will last a lifetime on these boards.
Fiji and I are going Wild Boar hunting in December.

Planning on one show for sure--hoping that JJ is correct and the ATL will get one. Would love to see one in Central or S. FLA, but that's apparently not going to happen. Will be attending "stupid summitt". Must meet JJ, he had a big hand in getting me started on my boot collection over at Shidoobee. Will be drinking heavilly and will try to make up for Pug & JB not being there, but I don't have their cash so drinks will be on a limited to a 1st come basis.

Becker, Fagen still reeling in refinement
W- W- What ?!
Becker, Fagen still reeling in refinement
" Steely Dan's attention to sonic detail earned it a perfectionist reputation early on.
Mystique surrounded the band that refused to tour for fear its music wouldn't translate to the stage. Adding to that reputation was Steely Dan's painstaking recording process, which rotated studio musicians to ensure sonic excellence.
Since Steely Dan's 1993 reunion, much of that mystique has eroded, though the band's following remains strong. On Monday evening, the Grammy-winning band plays Red Rocks Amphitheater.
"Through the '70s, there was a trend toward refinement and perfection," says Walter Becker, the guitarist who, with front man Donald Fagen, is Steely Dan. "And certainly, because we were more and more dealing with jazz harmonies, we felt that it sounded better if there was a high level of polish. And of course we wanted everything to have the best possible groove. So we just ended up polishing it as much as possible."
The contrast between highbrow sound - a clever combination of jazz, R&B, rock and other genres - and lowdown lyrics is the key to the band's unique sound.
For instance, "Kid Charlemagne" is the chronicle of a drug dealer disguised as a jazzy rock ballad. "Everyone's Gone to the Movies" is another example, a song about showing pornography to kids.
"What we sort of thought was, in a way, that a lot of things, if not everything, had been done musically," Becker says, "and a lot of things, if not everything, had been done with literature. And one of the ways you could achieve novel effects and increase the depth of what you were doing was by juxtaposing incongruent things, having the music have one mood and the lyrics have another mood."
The lyrical depth to most songs magnetizes fans, some of whom parse the words with scholarly obsession. On the track "Show Biz Kids," one line has been alternately interpreted as "Lost Wages," "Las Vegas" and "Las Wages."
Fueling the band's enigmatic reputation was the precision with which Steely Dan recorded. The band recorded songs over dozens of takes, refining the musical elements in an arduous process.
Becker and Fagen, who met in the 1960s while students at Bard College, conceived of Steely Dan as a studio band. So when their record company announced the band would have to tour upon releasing 1972's "Can't Buy a Thrill," the band begrudgingly hit the road to maintain the record deal.
Invariably, the band hated it.
"Back then, things were much more disorganized," says Becker, who opened for Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Sha Na Na, Chuck Berry and others. "We didn't sound like we wanted to sound. We had various jazzy elements for our songs, and to be on tour meant they'd be performed sloppily.
"It didn't sound good. It's not the kind of music that lends itself to that. To play jazz, it presupposes a kind of cohesion that we couldn't accomplish on tour."
But times change.
The band's 2003 release "Everything Must Go" used the same studio band for the entire recording - common enough for most musicians but unheard of for Steely Dan.
Today the band tours regularly and still enjoys a devoted following.
"We have a very common background, Donald and I, in jazz and certain kinds of rhythm and blues stuff," Becker says, "so we had a vision that we agreed on for what we wanted things to sound like and what we were shooting for.
"And a lot of it has to do with the sound of the harmonies and the musicians that we work with. We've been able to achieve that."

Behavior like his makes me seriously question my support for Israel...Keep up the good work LJ...you are the true dream-maker here...not the self-appointed jb/pug tandem who do nothing but tear dreams down

I'm afraid so, Tampabaystone. I believe he did Get Back for the movie and soundtrack. It was fitting, since he played organ in the song.
LJ, I wish I could make it there with you folks. Again, money is the main issue. I'll drink for all the ROCC and everyone else there. Hope you have one hell of a time! |
