BTW, Prodigal Son, Sea and Sand is one of my favorite songs of all time! "I'm dressed up better than anyone within a mile." You sell that baby short.

Jumpin Jack - you have all those DVDs? Damn, that's impressive!

Hell yes, Sea and Sand has the classic Who song structure - one of their most underated songs, buried amongst the other brilliance of Quadrophenia.

IF, and its a big IF, I had to get the Who "basics," I'd get plenty of quality booze and some Northern Mexico reefer and then:

1. Who's Next
2. Quadro - it blows doors
3. Odds and Sods

Athena Rocks !!!!!!

" Athena, my heart felt like a shattered glass in an acid bath
I felt like one of those flattened ants you find on a crazy path
I'd of topped myself to give her time she didn't need to ask
Was I a suicidal psychopath?
She's just a girl - she's a bomb

Consumed, there was a beautiful white horse I saw on a dream stage
He had a snake the size of a sewer pipe living in his rib cage
I felt like a pickled priest who was being flambed
You were requisitioned blondie
She's just a girl - she's a bomb

I'm happy, I'm ecstatic
Just a girl just a girl
Just a girl just a girl
Just a girl just a girl
She's just a girl

Look into the face of a child
Measure how long you smiled
Before the memory claimed
How long would children remain
How long would children remain

Athena, you picked me up by my lapels and screamed "leave her"
It felt like waking up in heaven on an empty meter
And now you're stuck with a castrated leader
And I hate the creep, I didn't mean that
She's a bomb
I just said it
She's a bomb
I didn't mean it, please
She's a bomb

Athena, I had no idea how much I need her
My life has been so settled and she's the reason
Just one word from her and my troubles are long gone
But I get along
She's just a girl, she's a bomb
She's just a girl, she's a bomb"

I would like to nuzzle you .

" We old ones, have seen two wars

When you're sick and afraid
And there's danger around
Take a pick and a spade
And Cut into the ground
Away from the light
Away from the sound
Make a trap for the beast
Dig his burial mound
Dig for your life
Dig to the death
Dig for Salvation
Till your very last breath
Dig for protection
Dig for release
Dig for resurrection
Dig for peace

We old ones, have seen two wars

When you dream of a laser
That sears your soul
Slices like a razor
Burns like coal
You can bet you'll forget
When the rock starts to roll
And the last meets the least
By the watering hole

Dig it down deep
Dig it out wide
Dig it pleasure
Dig it for pride
Dig it for treasure
Dig it for stones
Dig it for the metal
And dig it for the bones

We old ones, have seen two wars. "

Neocon I haven't listened to them in years. Here my view. I think Who's Next is easily their best album. Quadraphnia has some good stuff and some stuff that sucks like Bell Boy..... The Who by Numbers is pretty good, but not too innovative, murky sound and depressing as all hell. I think Tommy largly sucks. Who Sell Out pretty Much sucks. Happy Jack has a few decent songs, but the sound quality was pretty bad. There is a Roger Daltry number so be prepared to hit the skip button.

I have vague memories of the latter stuff. I'd say the Who Are You album largely sucks. I think I liked maybe 1 or two later songs. Maybe I liked Don't Let Go the Coat, and Emminence Front.

For solo Towsend stuff I think I kind of liked White City, the Scoop album with girl in a suitcase, and maybe the empty Glass album. Don't listen to close to Empty Dress would be my advice. All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes is horrible, so is Iron Man. I think Townsend did a great album with Ronny Lane which I would check out. I think it may have been called Rough mix.

I don't know. "Tattoo", "Our Love Was", "I Can See For Miles", "Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand", "I Can't Reach You", "Sunrise" - I think it pretty much cooks.

Neocon Well I guess I don't know what I'm talking about!

Okay, go right out there and buy All the Best Cowboys have Chinese Eyes...... Tommy is just great Uncle Ernie, all that stuff. We're not Gonna Take it, what a masterpiece with the Picture of Lilly Riff. See Me Feel Me, just brilliant..... The Daltry song Early Morning Cold Taxi, well again I'm wrong, just fuckin brilliant. Who Sell out? Three good songs, one is long and called Rael.

Go buy them and listen and then let me know what you think...., but don't blame me when you you're running back to the store to get your $3 for the return.

Joey " Okay, go right out there and buy All the Best Cowboys have Chinese Eyes...... "

W- W- W- What ?!?!

http://www.wdkeller.com/index21.htm

" I watch you sit and twitching
With a match between your teeth
You seem to have a knack of moving it
It's in time to the beat

Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight

I can't be distracted
By the stuttering of the kids
I just sit enraptured
By your fluttering eye lids

Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight

I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care

I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care

I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care

Your eyes explain a story
That never had a start
Your brow reveals the glory
That's hidden in your heart

Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight

Your skin is fine china
White as winter snows
Your lips are always shining
Turning up your nose

Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight

I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care ..... ( fade to Steelie ) "

"Bell Boy" is one of my fav songs of all-time by any artist. A beautiful, haunting song about alienation, brilliantly articulated by that clown who's laughing on the outside and crying on the inside, Keith Moon.

But then, such subtleties are way above the head of most rock music listeners.
November 8th, 2005 10:52 AM
Neocon Blame Zack. He loves it!

I'd get:

Live at Leeds
Rough Mix
Who's Next
Who by Number
Empty Glass
Quadraphenia
The Kids are Alright

That would be the best quality in my view.

Amen !!! .. Well said -- " Bell Boy " Rocks !!!!!

Keith's beautiful voice is finally captured on vinyl :

" Some nights I still sleep on the beach.
Remember when stars were in reach.
Then I wander in early to work,
Spend the day licking boots for my perks. "
