Joey Carson !

Diedre I'm sorry to rain on the parade here. I'm just a typical chick -- failing to find a lot of humor in death and disablity. I gotta get with the program (but, actually, some things did make me laugh)!

Yeah, criticize Roy and all the other animal tamers out there. It's not what nature intended. But the other humans in the world are making these kitties go completely extinct, so I'm not sure what Roy did was worse. Even Jack Hanna praises S & R for bringing the plight of the tiger to the world's attention. Jack says they may be extinct in the wild by 2015, so at least Roy has preserved a lot of animals, albeit in a domesticated state.

nankerphelge No sweat -- some of us here have worked years to get this twisted!! We don't expect everyone to get it at first.

gypsy Happy Birthday, jb...my mom's b-day is on the 16th...so, you're a Libra.

Joey, in Playboy, there's a letter from some lady who is bragging about her oral skills, and she said she recently performed fellatio on an uncircumcised man, and wanted to know if there was anything she could do to improve her performance...the letter was sent from Georgia...which is near Florida...do you think she blew jb?!

10-07-03 05:45 PM
LadyJane Of all the damn days to be "out of the loop". Mascara is running down my face from laughing.

We need an RO gathering in Vegas!! Ya know...take in the Liberace museam...catch Celine....keep vigil at the Siggy and Roy Mansion!!!

LMAO!!

gypsy Yeah, Vegas would be good for me. Since I'm in Oklahoma. I think the nearest fellow RO member is Joey in Nebraska. Pretty much everyone else is in the Northeast.
10-07-03 05:52 PM
nankerphelge Yeah but flights to Vegas are always dirt cheap from everywhere!!

Not a bad idea!!!
10-07-03 05:52 PM

nankerphelge Funny thing is, I've never been to Vegas.

It just drives me nuts when I'm looking for a cheap vacation and Expedia and Travelocity keep feeding me $100 round trips to Vegas!

Kinda tough to take the kiddies to Sin City -- especially now that half of the only act they might have enjoyed is hooked up to a ventilator and communicating via Alphabet Soup!!

10-07-03 06:05 PM
gypsy nanky, I have never been to Vegas either. All of my friends have though...I feel so deprived. I must go!
10-07-03 06:09 PM
Riffhard A RO summit in Vegas would be insane! We would have sin city blushing at our antics. Vegas is great! You know what they say about Vegas-"It's hot, but,it's a dry heat." I was there about two months ago and had a blast. I'm in!

LadyJane I thought I would hate it...and I LOVED it!!

They ENCOURAGE you to DRINK, EAT and STAY UP all night long!!

Even if you don't like to gamble...the sheer madness is a blast AND when I visited there their was some damn exhibit at the Botanical Gardens at the great Bellagio Hotel....Kid you not....it featured.....goats and sheep!!! I have the photos to prove it. Bet "someone" would like to see those pics!!!

LadyJ
10-07-03 06:11 PM
nankerphelge Yeah I blame it on not being much of a gambler.
But everyone tells me how great it is anyway.
Like the shows!
But unless it is the Stones, who cares!! Celine? Wayne?
God just shoot me!

Then they say -- oh the food is great!
I ain't goin' to Vegas to eat -- got bad news on that.
Nawlins is food!
San Fran is food!
NYC is food!

Then they say -- oh but the drinks are cheap!
No cheaper than my own house!

I just never quite saw the allure of Vegas -- but hey, ya gotta appreciate a city built by gangsters that caters to the dark side! Perfect place for an RO convention!!!
10-07-03 06:12 PM
nankerphelge Sheep?

I'm in!
10-07-03 06:16 PM
gypsy I'm not into gambling or drinking. But, I would love to visit Vegas all the same. Especially if you guys are all there. We could make it so much fun.
nanky, you'd have to get pics of your offspring petting the sheep!

Sir Stonesalot nank...Your kids would love Vegas. No shit. Every resort on the Strip has "family" attractions. And S&R are not the only amazing shows to be seen out there. They would dig Cirque Du Soliel, Lance Burton, that show at the MGM with the big fire breathing dragon...forget what the name of it is. Roller Coasters that are 1000 feet off the ground. You can get day trips to Lake Meade/Hoover Dam, or to the Grand Canyon, or to the Painted Desert. There's a pile of nice golf courses.

I mean, where else can you take a gondola ride in Venice, eat lunch at the top of the Eiffel Tower, watch knights in a joust, explore a pyramid, get an Italian Ice in NYC, have a Roman Centurian bring you a beer, and check out an erupting volcano, all before dinner.

I have been to Vegas. I like Vegas...and Vegas likes me.
10-08-03 01:13 AM
gypsy Sounds romantic, SS. Ditch the wife, and I'll ditch Kip or Josh, or whatever the hell his name is...and let's go to Vegas together, where there will be lots of ferret petting.

jb Thank you Gypsy..my birthday is 10/11/62 so I will be 41 this Saturday. I find it hard to believe in 9 years I will be 50!!! I look pretty good still, but definitely feel my age. And by the way, money only further complicates ones life....I never thought I would have so many problems and complications in my life....

gypsy Hope you have a good birthday, jb. You don't look 41...I remember seeing your pic on one of the boards after a concert.
That is true about money. I think I was happier when I was younger and struggling. But, money does help...you have to admit that.

Doctors say it's a miracle Roy Horn survived tiger attack
By CHRISTINA ALMEIDA
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Droves of people visit Roy Horn's makeshift memorial in front of The Mirage hotel-casino every day. Thousands have visited the "Siegfried & Roy" Web site, causing it to crash.

Some of the biggest names in the world, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mick Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, former President Bill Clinton and Muhammad Ali, have sent get well messages.

"The outpouring of love and prayer both domestically as well as globally ... is very touching to us," Bernie Yuman, the pair's longtime manager, said Tuesday.

Doctors hope Horn might be able to one day thank them.

It is "all but miraculous" that entertainer Horn is alive and able to communicate after being bitten in the neck by a 600-pound tiger, his doctor said Tuesday.

Horn is able to move his feet and hands, and is responding to treatment, Dr. Derek Duke said at a news conference at University Medical Center where Horn was hospitalized after Friday's attack.

He remained in critical condition Wednesday, the hospital said. Doctors said Horn lost a large amount of blood in the attack and later had a stroke.

Duke disputed reports Horn was in a drug-induced coma. He said it will be some time before the extent of Horn's recovery will be known.

"A contributing factor to his current condition is his extraordinary will and strong physical attributes," Duke said, reading from a prepared statement. "These are significant elements in his ability to recover."

Horn was attacked by a Royal White tiger named Montecore during Friday's sold-out show at The Mirage. The illusionist was alone onstage with the tiger when it latched onto his arm. After Horn tried to free himself by tapping the tiger on the head with a microphone, the animal lunged at his neck and then dragged him offstage as 1,500 people in the audience watched.

Show workers set off fire extinguishers backstage to distract the tiger, which initially refused to release the performer. Horn underwent emergency surgery late Friday and had another surgery to relieve pressure on the brain.

Longtime stage partner Siegfried Fischbacher told a German newspaper Tuesday that Horn was able to raise his hand in a 'V' for victory sign.

"He's the strongest person in the world. We'll get through this together," Fischbacher told the Bild daily. "I'm sure he'll recover completely. He's over the worst."

Fischbacher said he was sure the pair would be able to appear again, telling Bild, "Our show will go on."

But hotel officials announced Saturday the show has been closed, and its 267 employees have been told to find new employment. A majority of the workers are employed by the hotel, which will try to place them.

Fischbacher said he has spent the past few days crying and praying for his longtime friend. He also said he felt for the tiger, who "reacted instinctively and was completely confused because Roy slipped."

Fischbacher said Roy noticed something was off with the tiger, so he departed from the routine and moved between the tiger and the audience. It was then that he stumbled, he said.

"I'm not mad at the tiger because he didn't act out of badness," Fischbacher said. He added the tiger is still "part of the family."

Yuman also expressed optimism that Horn will recover.

"Every second of every minute of every hour of every day that passes increases his chance of survival," Yuman said Tuesday. "He has the will of a thousand men."

Yuman said Horn is able to communicate, but Yuman would not answer questions about whether Horn can speak.

"He understands the circumstances. He is totally aware that he is fighting for his life," Yuman said.

For years, Horn and Fischbacher have performed their animal/magic act, consistently drawing sold-out crowds. The duo signed a lifetime contract with The Mirage in 2001.

Yuman said Horn and Fischbacher had performed shoulder-to-shoulder for 44 years, most of that time spent on the Las Vegas Strip.

"When you go to New York City, you see the Statue of Liberty. When you come to Las Vegas, you see Siegfried and Roy," he said. "Siegfried and Roy are Las Vegas."

Meanwhile, a representative of the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed the agency is looking into the attack.

Jim Rogers, spokesman for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, which is a part of the USDA, would not comment on the investigation.

Alan Feldman, spokesman for MGM Mirage, said the hotel would cooperate.

The tiger remains quarantined.

They also have been trying a new ad campaign. Shedding that family image a bit. I believe the new slogan is "What happens in Vegas, Stays In Vegas".

Sounds good to me!
