They rock(ed)... they were bands to follow, copy and admire
...just ask Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin, a rock anthem "Whole Lotta LOve" was stolen from a Marriott-Lane song... (high Willie)

There's a thing in common between the brithish bands in da 60's... the good ones (Beatles, Stones, The Who (Hi Joey), Small Faces, Kinks, Pretty Things, and other ones) they all come from the working class or similar and not juniors with a helping hand from daddy.

For those Led Zeppelin fans or in general for those who think "Whole Lotta Love" a real rock anthem was a Page-Plant composition just listen this song "You need Loving" (Marriott-Lane) recorded in 1965, four years before LZ. IN this case I'm sharing this live version recorded for the BBC Saturday Club on 14th March 1966 because this is shorter; the original studio track is more than 5 minutes
Rare TV-Performance of "Tin Soldier" by The Small Faces with P.P. Arnold broadcast 02.March 1968 Boutton Rouge (Belgium TV)!
Thanks doctorhackenbusch!

I haven't heard this Small Faces number, but Whole Lotta Love is essentially a cover version of the Willie Dixon penned You Need Love, which indecently, The Small Faces covered on their debut album as You Need Loving. Maybe this High Willie is another version of it.
From the mod anthems like Hey Girl, My Minds Eye and All Or Nothing to the Immediate classics like Tin Solider and Itchycoo Park, they always had an edge. They're highly relevant.
Steve Marriott? He puts Rod Stewart to shame in my opinion. Anyone who gives The Faces but not the original a try should be castrated in my opinion.
