Ten Thousand Motels Observer: He's with the band

Iowa Republicans appear to have found many good reasons to vote for Mike Huckabee, given his late surge in state opinion polls.

But perhaps the most clear-cut is that he would stage the best inauguration ceremony. The former Arkansas governor, a keen bass guitar player, has promised to invite the Rolling Stones to play at the event if elected president.

Huckabee is already on good terms with the veteran British rockers after meeting them at a concert in Little Rock last year. Keith Richards told Huckabee, then governor, of a driving conviction he had received in Arkansas three decades earlier. Before leaving office, Huckabee issued the legendary guitarist with an official pardon.

His love of music invites parallels with the last son of Arkansas to become president. Just as Bill Clinton's saxophone helped endear him to voters, Huckabee often brings out his guitar on the campaign trail.

Images of him plucking at his bass for his amateur band, Capitol Offence, have become a staple of the media's coverage of his campaign, helping widen his appeal beyond his Christian conservative base.

Huckabee is probably already dreaming of joining the Stones on stage in January 2009. But don't expect to see him grooving like Mick Jagger. As a Southern Baptist and former preacher, he is a reluctant dancer.

Sioux Huckabee is the governor who gave Keith that official driving offense pardon? Seriously? Well, how 'bout that...

LOL! Are you serious? Ron Paul?!?!?! Ron Paul!! The man is a goddamned isolationist that has duped a bunch of people into thinking that he has a snowball's chance in hell getting elected. He doesn't.

The guy is very anti-Israel too. Go to any of his wackedout supporters blogs and the anti semmetism is thick and unmistakable. Go ahead and piss your vote away, but know this. He will never win. The only candidate worse than Ron Paul is Hillary Clinton.

I'm not the one confusing the two Bucky. That would be the Ron Paul supporters. They are both anti Israel and anti semetic. Not all of them mind you, but a goodly portion of them certainly are. Just go check their blogs. Crazy is an understatement.

Rev Twenty Redlights 1) It is a despicable slander to say that a lot of Ron
Paul supporters are anti-Semetic. I've never read one
word of anti-Jewish bias from anyone remotely connected
to his campaign. While I'm sure the supporters of more
war can dig up (and probably pay for) some horrible
character who will say he is for Ron Paul, that would
be a rare anomaly. Paul supporters are rigorously for
equal rights and equal protection under the (currrently
ignored) constitution of the USA. One can debate whether
Paul's positions against the Federal Reserve and the
neo-cons and the war profiteers are necessarily or
unnecessarily extreme, but to label him or the vast
majority of his supporters as anti-Semetic is disgusting
nonsense. The bottom line is that Ron Paul is strongly
anti-Bush AND strongly anti-Hillary AND strongly pro-
Constitution, and that's good enough for me, even if I
don't agree with every single one of his other positions.

2) For the record, Mike Huckabee is no neo-con.
Yes, he's a socially conservative Christian, but enough
of a free-thinker that he is under attack by the likes
of neo-cons Rush Limbaugh and John Bolton. I don't support
him, but he's not pure neo-con evil like the supposedly
more "liberal" Giuliani. Huck's just a good old boy,
(no school boy but he know's what he likes). He's not
the kind to ever sell out America, like Bush has done.

3) The neo-con's selected candidates in this election are
(good cop-bad cop) Clinton and Giuliani. I'll view it as
a blessed miracle if both of them can be stopped, by Paul
or Huck or Obama or ANYONE. Just stop Clinton and
Giuliani, both of them top lieutenants in the Bush-Clinton
crime family, which has run America into the ground, and
put the world right on the brink.

Riffhard Like I said Ron Paul supporters are a very strange bunch. [And], yes, many of them are openly anti semetic and anti Israel. That you will admit it or not doesn't matter to me at all.

Rush Limbuagh is a "neocon"?!?!?! Are you stoned? Drunk? Or both? Rush has been a Reagan/Goldwater conservative forever, and there is nothing at all neo/new about that. Reagan was the quintessential Goldwater conservative and any RuPaul supporter that thinks differently is delussional.

I mean, you do know what "neocons" are, right? They are typically former lib/Dems who have seen the folly of their ways and have switched parties.

"As a term, neoconservative first was used derisively by democratic socialist Michael Harrington to identify a group of people (who described themselves as liberals) as newly stimulated conservative ex-liberals. The idea that liberalism "no longer knew what it was talking about" is neoconservatism's central theme."

To describe Rush as a neocon shows that you have been drinking the Koolaid that is so typical of most RuPaul supporters.

Point number 3 in your inane/insane rant proves that you are a typical "blame America first" type that has zero sense of real history. The United Staes of America has liberated and saved more muslim lives than any other country on the planet. We give more in humanitarian aid to muslim countries than all other countries combinded. You RuPauletttes are so damned predictable. Take your assigned talking points and pound everyone over the head with them. I ain't buying big boy. For that matter neither is the vast majority of the country. Thankfully.

glencar Rush isn't a neo-con. He doesn't like Huckabee bexause he considers him fiscally/economically liberal. I think the Huckster has run out of gas. I can't afford to buy him any today.
3rd January 2008 09:51 AM
Rev Twenty Redlights You're an idiot Riffy. I am not blaming America first.
I am blaming the neo-cons, traitors to everything America
stands for. Traitors. People who have sold out the American
people to the international monopolists, who crush American small businessmen as surely as they crush impoverished
third world farmers. And Limbaugh, whatever his roots
in genuine conservatism might be, has long since sold out
to these faceless nation-less greedheads who wipe their ass
with the American constitution. They give Limbaugh fame
and riches and an enormous platform, so he gives us
un-conservative propaganda in favor of those who are
reducing us all, American and non-American, to serfs on
their corporate plantation. Limbaugh's a conservative
the way Pat Robertson is a Christian, in name only.
Its time to ignore the way the mainstream media frames
our politics, nitpicking over sex education or medical
marijuana or whatever. The two real parties are the
Sell-outs and Traitors (Giuliani and Clinton for sure,
also Thompson and McCain) and the Jeffersonian Idealists
(Ron Paul for sure, maybe Obama and Edwards, kinda hard
to tell about them two). End the reign of the Bush-Clinton
crime family!
