Linda, you are right. That discussion over there is ridiculous. I just wish the Brian haters would stay off
the Brian threads. They have a right to feel what they
feel, and even say the cruel things they say, but it
says something about them that they insist on bashing
Brian over and over again where they are not wanted. OY. |

I am not a Brian hater. Not a huge fan, but I'm a Stones fan, so how can I not appreciate Brian?
What I'm trying to make you gals understand is that RO is a pretty irreverant place and you need THICK skin to post here.
I should know.
I've been posting here regularly for nearly five years.
I can tell you, however, that this thread and the Superblow thread are pretty much "off limits" with regards to any nasty remarks.
Now I'm gonna to post some of these fine pics into Superblow.

Lady Jane is right, a person does have to be thick skinned.
But most of us BJ fans are just tired of discussing all that
stuff about Brian so many times!! It just gets run into the
ground after a while. Superblow is the kind of thread that
appears to be the best, where we can see beautiful pictures
of our favorite Rolling Stone or the band together from any
era. I really prefer looking at pictures and with some
friendly humorous talk, and discussing other Stone related
topics or non-Stone related ones on the other threads. The
humor on RO is really great, and we just want to get along
with others on here and not fight, I don't think that is
too much to ask. |

Agreed.... Thanks Lady Jane, I think you are a classy
girl... We appreciate coming to this thread, and some
of the others, and having a good discussion or nice
comments and LOTS of great pix. I don't take offense
at what is posted, even about Brian, but I agree with
Ghost that the constant dissing of Brian and badgering
of his fans does tend to get a bit tiring...I gave up
on the Brian Museum thread as well. I am a Stones fan
too. And even though I prefer the Brian Jones years, I
do appreciate and like a lot of the music the Stones
did in the 70's, some of the 80's, and more of the 90's
and on as well. I love Exile! And Sticky Fingers too..
Brian is not only my favorite Stone, but I think the
person I feel most drawn to from that entire era.
Thanks to all who keep the memory and spirit of Brian
alive! And who come here to share, reflect, appreciate,
and show love to each other. There is precious little
love in this big, bad world anymore... |

Bill says in 'Rolling With the Stones' that Brian played piano on Ruby Tuesday, whilst others say it was Jack Nitsche. |

Sioux -- oh, I love that picture, too. I can't look at it without the thought of wanting to pull down his shirt in back and stroke his hair just as I would with a child. In some ways, I love the vulnerable ones the most.

I’d just like to say I agree with the sentiments expressed about this thread.
The desire to stand in Brian’s defense gets intense in the face of such opposition that seems incapable of allowing a single ray of light to fall upon his memory – hard to resist and I didn’t.
I was reluctant to join this thread. As Sioux and Linda well know from LARS, I can be rather argumentative and express unpopular views there at times. Even now I don’t know that I quite belong here. But I know what drew me here and that was one simple fact.
I am a Brian Jones fan.
In that regard, all of us here are very much cut from the same cloth. There is no need to qualify that, defend that, analyze that, or debate that here. It’s just a reality to be accepted and appreciated and united by.
So thank you all for that...

I agree with you Zooeyglass. That is exactly right. I have
loved BJ for most of my life and for various reasons. And
it is too long to explain on here or anywhere. For me it is
mostly private and other people would not understand.
So as long as we have pictures and humor and our favorite
Rolling Stone this thread will always be here. |

This is pissing me off!!!
Saying Brian did not play a particular instrument on a particular song is not putting him down. If the available music, pictures and quotes from people who were there tell us or strongly suggest he did or did not play something I'd rather the correct credit was given.
Brian's musical versatility and gift of stating simple melodies at the right time/context is what drew me to the stones and was also a big part in why I went on to learn sitar, recorder etc etc.
I don't care if he was an asshole or not, I'm just glad he made music.
...and relax...

Exactly Philip very well said. I feel if Brian had been
able to receive the counseling and rehab he so desparately
needed back then, his problems may have been dealt with
more appropriately. But back in the Sixties this was not
possible as their were stigmas attached to people who were addicted to drugs/alcohol. I remember any kind of "rehab"
back then was going to a hospital and being put in the
Psych ward instead of being grouped with the right inpatients.
And going to the hospital in itself had more stigmas. Addicts
were often left to their own devices if they wanted to quit.
Look at all the recovering addicts that were musicians and
actors back then. They finally were able to receive much
needed help and are clean and sober within the past ten or
twenty years. I wish Brian could have experienced that
instead of losing his life and not having the chance to
be more productive for the remainder of his normal years.
His musical talents would have shown brighter if he were
still here. |

My dear Philip, please don't be pissed off!!
I think you're misunderstanding the comments made here about the Museum thread -- those are in regards to other members' remarks, not what YOU were saying there.
I'm sure no one here considers debating Brian's musical contributions as putting him down. Honest debate about it pleases me to no end and you do it well! Alex is only teasing...

Lisa is right, Philip! That's not what is so tiring and
what we consider bashing. We all want the truth too. It's
the ones who just go on and on about how Brian was such
a horrible person that he didn't deserve anyone to love
him or think well of him--sometimes they sound as if he
didn't even have a right to live or something! A totally
different thing. We can tell who is really hateful towards
Brian and who is just trying to keep all the history
straight... |

It's the ones who come on the Brian threads, on purpose,
NOT to talk in any way constructively about Brian, but
just to get a rise out of saying mean things. The ones
who don't care a thing about him but just want to stir
things up. We were not refering to those who come to
discuss Brian and his music and influence, to whatever
extent that was. We love hearing from all who come in
peace... |

Been listening to Between the Buttons all morning.
Not one of my favorite shoots, but I like the backstory of Brian being "difficult" and burying his face in his collar. Always made me wonder what he was thinking that day.

Fantastic Gered Mankowitz pictures Lisa!!
Go on Gloria Shepherd's website, she is the one who wrote
that sickening book on BJ, there is a place where you can
hear a radio interview excerpt by a DJ named Mancow interviewing her about her book. It is not very long, but
interesting nonetheless. If anyone listens to it please
let me know what you think.
LOVE TO S&K!
