Oh, yeah, Sugar Ray Robinson...he was awesome...y'know, he did his roadwork backwards? So, everytime I go running, I run backwards and shadowbox...it's a great workout.

Y'know, I have one of Tony Danza's old boxing posters?
I am also going to inherit my dad's collection of boxing posters and cards, which is quite an awesome collection. |

Its weird that a discussion on "Dirty work" has turned into a debate about boxing...
although I guess when you look at the titles of the first two songs on the album, thats only to be expected. |

Not only that. In one of his title winning fights (Fullmer or Olsen - not sure which, although I have it on video somewhere), he knocked the guy out whilst going backwards. Has to be seen to be believed |

I have the utmost respect for boxers--good boxers--it takes so much stamina. They make it look so easy on TV. But you just get into the ring, and see how out of breath you are after one round. It took me a long time to build up my endurance.
Max Baer had the BEST physique of all the boxers...but he was into boozing and women (like so many of them are)...and it ruined his career. |

"Max Baer had the BEST physique of all the boxers.."
Wasn't he Jethro on Beverly Hillbillies?
I heard he took so much acid he scared the shit out of the rest of the cast.

Yep, "Jethro" is Max Baer Sr.'s son. I think he tried boxing, but didn't have 'it,' so he became an actor. |

Here's a site I visit sometimes...this guy has all kinds of boxing memorabilia, but it's really expensive. Still, it's fun to look at.

A fantastic fighter from what I've seen. Had he not been around at the same time as Robinson probably would have been even more highly regarded than he was.
actually, now you mention it - and how about this for getting back on topic - I've a feeling that on the video for "One Hit To The Body" where it shows footage of some boxers, he might be one of them. Either that or it's Marciano. Havent seen it in a while! |

He was a gymnastics coach at my college back in the early 80's. His mind seemed shot by then. Very nice guy. |

Sugar Ray Robinson was also in that horrid movie "Candy" with Anita...so that is kind of Stones-related. |

The "One Hit" video is one of the best 3 videos made for the Stones. The fight on the band never was so well represented as on this video gem. |

pretty interestin'. he's still alive actually. He was actually a champ at welterweight before he won the middleweight title as well.
Oddly enough, hes from Canastota, the same town where the Boxing Hall of Fame is. Theres a bio here:
