Ten Thousand Motels OJ Simpson reveals how he would have killed his wife

Dan Glaister in Los Angeles
Thursday November 16, 2006
The Guardian

More than 12 years after the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goodman, OJ Simpson will revive memories of the case that gripped America with a controversial TV appearance later this month.

In the latest twist in a case that has captivated America for more than a decade, Simpson is to tell how he would have killed his ex-wife and her friend, if he were responsible for the murders.

"In the two-part event, Simpson describes how he would have carried out the murders he has vehemently denied committing for over a decade," Fox News said in a statement.

The interview will be conducted by celebrity publisher Judith Regan. The day after it airs, Regan Books is publishing Simpson's new book, If I Did It, Here's How It Happened, in which Simpson "hypothetically describes how the murders would have been committed".

Regan Books paid Simpson $3.5m (£1.85m) for the book, according to the New York Post. The Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, as is Fox TV. Regan Books, too, is owned by Murdoch. The imprint, best known for publishing an autobiography by porn star Jenna Jameson, is part of the HarperCollins group, which is owned by News Corp.

In a promotional clip for the interview Simpson is shown answering questions posed by an unseen woman.

"You wrote, 'I have never seen so much blood in my life'," the woman asks.

"I don't think any two people could be murdered without everybody being covered in blood," Simpson answers.

In a statement Brown's sister Denise condemned the interview. "It is unfortunate that OJ Simpson has decided to awaken a nightmare," she said, before expressing concern for Brown's two children, who are being brought up by Simpson. "We hope Ms Regan takes full accountability for promoting the wrongdoing of criminals and leveraging this forum and the actions of Simpson to commercialise abuse," she added.

Although Simpson was famously acquitted of the June 1994 murders, he was found to be responsible for both killings at a subsequent civil trial and was ordered to pay $33.5m to the heirs of the victims. To date he has not made any payment. A lawyer for the Goldman family said he would explore legal action should Simpson profit from the book or the interview.

Regan Books had no comment, although a recent report on the book said that Simpson's account of the murder is "so detailed and so chillingly realistic" that readers will likely draw the conclusion that he committed the murders.

Since the trial, Simpson has lived a secluded life in Florida. He recorded television interviews to mark the 10th anniversary of the killings, and to promote a reality TV show he planned to make.

The verdict in the civil case meant that Simpson has been unable to work as any income would go toward the costs awarded in the judgment. Simpson, who was a professional football player before becoming a film star, receives a pension from his sporting career which is protected from any court action.

"OJ won't get rich off this because if the money comes to him then it's subject to the civil judgment," said Laurie Levenson of Los Angeles' Loyola law school.

"OJ loves the limelight," he added. "I think he just wants to be in the headlines again."

For sure. But what I'm wondering is what this sort of thing on national TV says about "us", as a society.

100% agree. This just goes along with the state of our society that praises all athletes and performers for what they do in their craft ignoring how they act in "real life":

For Example:

1. OJ Simpson: Still beloved, yet is at least profiting off of his wife's murder now (that is if you don't think he killed them in the first place, which I think he did).

2. Michael Jackson has millions of fans still, yet he mollests children.

3. Brian Jones is beloved, yet he beat women and abused drugs to no end.

4. How many rappers/athletes have gained more popularity by committing or being charged with violent crimes (see: Ray Lewis and many others).

5. Townsend is caught with large amounts of child pornography which he is keeping for research? About as likely as me claiming the beer in my fridge when I was in college was simply to marinate ribs.

The list goes on and on.......

You're including Brian Jones on this list? Are you serious? Yeah, Keith has never abused drugs. While I totally agree that smacking women around makes someone a pathetic loser, I don't believe they are on the same level as child rapists and killers.

I dont think OJ has gained popularity by doing this. More people will hate his living guts after they see the interview. The publisher of the book says it is a confession. How can people not dislike this beast? Sadly, some people do as voodoopug stated. It is a sorry world, but I hope the this interview shows the people, who actually watch the trash, what an evil and lying human being/beast/monster, this guy is.

then you have never met a battered woman, ask them, they are on the same level in their minds.

I never said Keith was a saint either. I love Keiths musical talent and public persona, I don't agree with all aspects of his "away from the stage" life, but I also don't praise him as anything more than my favorite musician.

Sorry about including Pete Joshy....but we must remain subjective.

Sure, I'll ask my Mom.......

She said they aren't on the same level.

Why don't you ask some kid who's been raped, or someone who's had a loved one murdered if they consider him on the same level?

It's a subjective arguement, we can disagree and its ok. All are scenerios that are real bad.

If you have a history of violence with regards to someone close to you, then my heartfelt condolences go out to you.

Drewby Life is the most precious thing. Even tho people have been brutely raped and beaten, they can still live to tell about it. People who have been murdered have never get to try to make it better. They are forever gone and nothing can replace them. People who live to tell the story, always have a second chance to make things better for themselves. So ill agree that they are not on the same level. Murder is worse.

reflecting back, that would put rape and domestic violence on the same level to me, with murder above that......all of them very shitty though and those who commit these crimes deserve harsh punishment, not praise.

All 13 of his computer were search warranted, and high teched. He was found in possession of nothing.

His credit card number was found in the database of a child porn site - if he had any brains, he would have said he had no idea how it got there, instead he felt the need for his usual grand explanations, which basically got him in even worse trouble - he's a genius and an idiot at the same time.

Townshend wrote a detailed account of what he viewed over a year prior to his troubles with police, what he viewed was horrific, I doubt anyone here truly believes Pete Townshend gets off on 2 year olds being sexually brutalized. Townshend as a pedophile is clearly more a jab at Who fans on the board than anything else.

It has become "cool" to commit violent crimes and be a "street thug".

sadly, successful professionals like us will have to financially support these "cool" individuals while they are in the prison system.
16th November 2006 03:10 PM
jb Agreed...Pete was 100% innocent, but showed very poor judgment. He also should have consulted his lawyer before talking to the cops, who as always, tried to grab some headlines by busting a star.
