jb After Atlantic City, I had a cautious feeling about going to the Beacon on the 31st. I spoke to Voodoopug and we both thought it highly unlikely that they would cancel the Beacon. I got back home from Atlantic City late Saturday afternoon, and I was still unsure if I wanted to fly out early AM on Monday. I was already a bit fatigued from the AC experience, and as I said, I was more disappointed for my son than myself. I have atteneded over 50 Stones shows, and I guess I have been lucky to never have this occur. I wasn't even mad as I understand that shit happens, and truthfully, I have been blessed to have done this tour first class, and the experiences have been overwhelmingly positive.

Anyway, I had to make a decision by Sunday as the suite at the Mandarin was over $1200 a night(the first class plane ticket was completely refundable). After discussing it with the wife, we agreed that it would be a nice way to end this amazing jouney with one last show, and a special one at that.
Consequnetly, I flew into La Guardia early Monday, went to the Mandarin, and fortunately they made the suite available to me even though check-in was 3:00 PM. I rested for awhile, and then took a cab to the Beacon(about 15 blocks I think) and after a short wait, got my ticket and wristband. Again, thanks to Voodoopug, I got an upper/limited view ticket, which he was able to get for me using my credit card info...it was really generous of him to do that for me.
I was pretty tired, but nonetheless, excited about the show.

I was not even aware of the Sunday night set-list, as I do not go online when out of town. I went back to the hotel, had a late lunch overlooking Central park from the 36th floor of the Mandarin(I highly reccommend this hotel as the Spa is world class, and the views simply amazing). That evening, I had dinner with some family who still live in the city.
The next morning, I woke up, and in only what I can describe as a surreal/dreamlike feeling, I had a voice mail from LadyJane advising me the show had been cancelled!!!! At times like these you either laugh, cry, or do both. After making some calls, I found out more information about the rescheduled show. I had to make a decision as I had several important things I needed to take care of Wedesday, including a court ordered Mediation in the afternoon, and had booked an early flight anticipating getting back to the office by 12:00 PM .

I called my office and we discussed rescheduling the Mediation for Thurday afternoon. It was becomming a bit difficult as we could not reach the Mediator, and were uncertain he would be available for Thursday. Off course, I could have cancelled it completely as my client is local, and opposition would not object. After stressing about it for a few minutes, I became somewhat melacholy about the whole series of events, and to be completely honest, the show just did not have the same importance to me as it would have in the past. I can't say whether it is fatigue, frustration, anger, or simply seeing them too much, but I felt resigned to missing the show. I called Pug and left a voice-mail thanking him for the ticket and hoping he would not be disappointed that I would not use it.

I flew home last evening and in all likelihood my last Stones show was the Louisville show. Unfortunately, I cannot return to Atlantic City on the 17th. I am sorry I did not get to meet many of you , but hopefully something will break in the future. As far as the Stones, being serious for a moment, I have mixed feelings. I will always love the band, it's music, and the central role it has played in my life. Moreover, as I often post, they really don't owe us anything, as they have toured longer than any of us could have imagined. Nonetheless, the return "mini-tour" has left me feeling a bit sad about the way things appear to be ending. I never imagined that this is the way they would have ended it. It seems unfitting for the greatest rock and roll band of all time would want to end their run like this.

In the long view, it will probably be a meaningless footnote in their legendary history, but at this time, it just doesn't sit well with me. I hope all of you are doing well and wish you all the best-I hope we meet again.

The bus ride was cancelled and they had a "party" for us at the Loews. I had 2 "Hawaiian Punch" Martinis, fried calamari, and won a Rolling Stones zip-up jacket which, off course, I gave to my son.

I always enjoy taking my kids to new places. At least we got to tour Philly and see the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and a few other places.

GotToRollMe I'm so sorry you had to go through all this, JB.
And I'm REALLY sorry about AC - being stuck in Philly, you couldn't even hang out with the rest of us and at least share a few laughs , a few drinks, and some camaraderie. You were sorely missed. It's a shame you can't make it to the 11/17 show, but I can't say I blame you. I am extremely disappointed that we won't get a chance to meet...hopefully, maybe someday....*sigh*

It's been a hell of a weekend, and I'm absolutely gutted for you...first AC and now The Beacon. I know you do a lot of schtick on the boards about the Stones, but I also know you're a true-blue fan and that this really cut deep. I can only wish you the very best and hope that you get to see at least one more show before this ride comes to a full stop.

Philip Please escuse my ignorance, but I haven't really kept up to date with the band for a long time.

This talk of it being a "return mini tour" though, have they said that they will stop touring after this run?

If this is the case, and what wioth all the cancelation problems etc I've been reading about recently, that truly is a sad way to go out!!!

LadyJane You had a great ride, jb.

Sorry it had to end this way for you.

We missed you in AC and I want to thank you for the message you left on my voicemail reminding me that all of this is meaningless when taken in the big picture.

We will all meet again one day. Of that I am certain.

LJ.

Thanks for the kind words..at least we "greeted" telephonically!!!LOL.. I was, in all candor, more disapponted in not seeing old friends, as well as meeting new ones. When I spoke to LJ, it seemed you all were certainly making the best of the sitution!!! Glad you had each other to lean on.....I'm sure there will be an occassion in the future where we can all meet up again...best wishes-JB.

Jumping Jack I understand how you feel Joshy. I am over it myself. Too bad it had to end this way, but humiliation was inevitable. Athletes and entertainers simply cannot go out on top.

How was Babs? That wasn't you throwing beer was it, LOL? Geez, first the nacho incident with Keef and then this. :-)

Jumping Jack Joshy, I did catch Coop at the HOB in AC from the front row center again so the weekend was not a total loss. There was a nice group a Stones fans up front with me. It is amazing how good a rock show can be when the guitars plugged in and played well, LOL!

Be sure to eat at the HOB and get the pass the line ticket if you ever go to a show there. Gets you in before the riff raff!

No..but the talk - for quite some time now - from several people who are knowledgeable about these things, appears to suggest a consistency of belief that they wont tour again after next year's European shows.

What they'll do after that is conjecture but most seem to think they even if they perform again, it wont be in the form of a lengthy spell of touring

Score, more backchannel talk!

Can you describe the creepy backchannel Mr. Moonie? Do creepy backchannel's always involve a rear Admiral?
1st November 2006 12:44 PM
parmeda Josh, my friend...you could write a book and it would become a best seller, lol

With your continued rantings over ticket sales, venues being 'wide open', an over abundance of 'humiliations', your 'meet & greet' lists, the exquisite itineraries of your travels...you can't do anything less than laugh at it all. True, it's unfortunate that shows were cancelled/postponed; forcing many to scurry around with their plans (our Euro friends included!). I'm glad you seem somewhat satisfied 'cause we know there's no use in crying - and it's been a pleasure to take a back seat throughout your adventures
