WinslowStud What is wrong with U2? Despite what you Bono haters say, they are one of the most popular bands of the last 20 years. Besides, name another rock star that has the social conscience of Bono.

Sir Stonesalot What's wrong with U2?

To get a shorter answer, ask the question "What ISN'T wrong with U2?". I don't have the time, and this place doesn't have the bandwidth, for an essay about what is wrong with U2.

You assume that popularity means something. It doesn't. Brittany Spears and Celine Dion and Barry manilow are popular too...so what the fuck does that mean, you know? It means that John Q Public has shitty taste when it comes to music, and pretty much always has. I mean, how else can you explain The Macarena and Don't Worry be Happy? Or The Spice Girls? So yeah, I lump U2 in with crap like Bon Jovi, Backstreet Boyz, The Eagles, Mariah Carey, and Aerosmith. U2 is rock n roll music for people who don't really care about what they listen to. It's Rock Muzak.

And as for Bono's "social conscience"...bully for him. But what the fuck does that have to do with Rock n Roll? I don't need my Rock n Rollers to have a social conscience. All I need is for them to do good songs...something IMO that U2 is way short on.

I for one don't buy Bono's schtick. If Bono was REALLY serious about 3rd World Debt, he'd sell off a few of his estates and manors, and buy up some of that debt himself. No, Bono is using a social issue to aggrandize himself...and his band. It's a marketing ploy. And I find that repulsive.

Say it with me people...Bono is a twat!

Sir Stonesalot Right on Nanky.

That's one of my fave Bono pics.

Did you know that Bono likes to sniff his own farts? It's true. That's how he knows that his shit don't stink.
18th October 2006 11:39 AM
throbby He's looking very un Rock and Roll in that photo. He needs to start juicing, slim down some.
18th October 2006 11:58 AM
Sir Stonesalot I thought you did Juice if you wanted to bulk up and get loads of muscle mass?

I think Bono on 'Roids would be a very bad idea.
18th October 2006 11:59 AM
nankerphelge I think he was talking wolfberry juice!

Or wolfpuss juice!

MMMmmmm wolfpuss juice!!!

throbby Don't kid yourself. You'll shoot a line that'll never miss.
18th October 2006 12:55 PM
texile sir, i agree.
i don't think the mainstream public so much LIKES u2 -
but they buy the whole oprah/brangelina/bono shtick of moral superiority....
there's a 16-yr old kid here in my hometown who raised a goat for the rodeo livestock show...
these kids raise thier animals and auction them off for thier scholarship money.
he raised $115, 000 and donated everything to a local non-profit breast cancer center that helps women without without insurance to be treated....in honor of his late mother, who died of the disease.
that's truly selfless.
the bono brigade leaves me cold when i see a kid like this.

Route66 Well, I disagree with the U2 critics. I've been a Stones fan since the mid 70s, but I've been a fan of U2 also since they first started, and I think they write some pretty damned good songs.

I don't give a rat's ass about their political stances, I like their music. I know several people who also like them. I certainly don't know of anyone who has low opinions of them. They're one group I haven't seen yet that's still on my list of ones I want to see before I die.

You dont pass the test, Pug. You paid to go and see them! Deciding they were shite two thirds of the way through a concert you bought tickets for doesnt count!

Please understand that sacrifices must be made to keep sanity within a marraige. I have to justify my large expenditures on Stones tours by agreeing to sacrifice integrity as well as put my ears through torture to be a "team player"

Well, I do. I don't like the thin, tinney guitar sound. I don't like The Edge's guitar style or technique. He sounds like a wussy. I can't stand the singers whiney, over emotive vocal. The lyrics are pompous and overblown. Dude thinks he's Dylan or something. He's not. Not even close. I have friends that play bass better than Adam Clayton.

But mostly what I don't like is how fucking BORING the music is. Boring and lame. It's just not rockin' enuff fer me. I see no difference between U2 and any of the rest of the worthless commercial radio crap out there. Same boring vanilla shit, different wrapping paper.
