Moonisup The Nearness Of You

It's not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
It's just the nearness of you

It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
It's just the nearness of you

When you're in my arms and I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams come true

I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me the right
To hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night the nearness of you

06-08-03 06:32 PM
mac_daddy I wouldn't hold my breath for both those tunes - every rehearsal tape I have, from different tours, has stuff that never makes it onto a setlist...

Lady Jane would be nice, but I doubt She was Hot will make the cut. I would love to be wrong, though
06-08-03 06:39 PM
steel driving hammer Looks like Mick was good tonight inne?

Angiegirl Today 4 years ago I was there @ Shepherds Bush club. Just crossed my mind, exactly 4 years later another club. It feels like a 100 years ago...
06-08-03 06:54 PM
Gazza I think hoagy carmichael wrote "nearness of you"

keith also sang it to Patti at their wedding

Marko's just texted me to say it was the best show hes ever seen. Confirmed setlist to follow any second now...
06-08-03 06:57 PM
luxury1 Christ, I just got goosebumps, and I am all the way over here in NY!!

Gazza marko has confirmed that was indeed the correct setlist:

ie,

01) Jumping jack flash
02) Tumbling Dice
03) All down the line
04) Sweet Vvirginia
05) Worried about you
06) Stray cat Blues
07) Everybody need somebody
08) Dance prt1
09) That's how strong my love is
10) Going to a gogo
INTRO BAND
11) Nearness of You
12) Before they make me run
13) It's only Rock & Roll
14) Can't you hear me knocking
15) Honky tonk woman
16) Start me up
17) Brown Sugar
18) I can't turn you loose encore

needless to say this is the live debut of "nearness of you" by the Stones. keith has of course cut it solo a few times but hes never played it live either

Gazza >I wouldn't hold my breath for both those tunes - every rehearsal tape I have, from different tours, has stuff that never makes it onto a setlist...
Lady Jane would be nice, but I doubt She was Hot will make the cut. I would love to be wrong, though

thing to remember is,they only rehearsed for this leg of the tour for what - 4 days? at that late stage of a rehearsal if theyre rehearsing a song, theyre pretty likely to be serious about including it in a live performance. its not the same as say, rehearsing "king bee" or "silver train" as they did in Toronto last summer when the tour was still weeks away.

I think theres a very good chance of those songs turning up on this tour at some point, probably just in a theatre though. heres hoping they'll dig out a few more.

71 songs so far aint bad but its a long way short of what was it - 109 songs ? - that they played on the last tour (and there wasnt as much variety in the size of shows on that tour as this one)

nice setlist tonight. can we safely presume that the "slow ballad" Keith has been playing in rehearsal was "nearness of you" ?

for anyone who was there...who else was onstage with him when he played it? cant imagine too many of the band there for that one!

Yes, Bjornulf already said that on his rehearsals page I thought? June 3rd? Yeh, here I have it:
http://www.iorr.org/tour03/munich.htm.
Cool, I hope I get to hear it within the next months.
06-08-03 07:45 PM
T&A by the way - I think we can assume that "new" Keith song that he was rehearsing last week was, in all likely fact, Nearness of You, not some new Stones tune...
