I think it's a traditional gospel tune, and Johnny knows how to do those.

well, yes and no...it's a nick cave "tune"...he of "release the bats"...a manifestastion of a relatively (or maybe not so) inexplicable antipodean fascination with the cauldron that was (is) the deep south and a neat observation on the question of capital punishment, good and evil and other such j.c. type subjects...

truth to tell i haven't heard it either (jc's version that is - that's why i asked)...i've had to make do with his version of a u2 song (specifically "one")for chris' sake - yet then even that is further proof of the saying it's the singer not the song

They were an English beat group from the mid 60s. The number in question appears on the Freakbeat comp pictured in my previous post. The Troggs also did this song, but I think this is the original version. It's retardedly poppy and rockin' in the way the Troggs are. It's a song that could have appeared on Rhino's second Nuggets comp.

Apropos of this conversation, I think that I am going to listen to nothing but 60s beat pop for the rest of the day.

At the moment: The Troggs: The Vintage Years.

The Troggs are my 3rd group after Stones and Groovies, they were really great, especially live.I saw them about 10 times in the 70's and talked alot to Reg and Ronnie (and Tich ,who was 2 or 3 years in the line-up).There are lots of relations between Troggs and Loot. Both came from Andover and David Wright(Loot) was earlier member of the Troggs. Both had the same manager/Label :Larry Page / Page One.Troggs version of Baby come closer is on Trogglodynamite.

Anytime you find a 60s picture sleeve single of a rockin' tune by an obscure group it's a damn fine day (if you're a record freako or a dealer).

Makes getting up at damn 7 in the morning on a Saturday worth the hangover.

7 ? I must get up at 5.... at 7 you find only Al Martino.......
Well, its not often you have such a lucky day as I had.I found not only the above mentioned (Im coming ON )Found also Flower Pot Men - You can never be wrong ,and one Ive never heard of before : Day Of Phoenix - Deep Within The Storm ,must have been a progressive (danish ?) band...and a few others.
Its easier here to find 7"s with p/s ,cause nearly all were published with, though The Loot is hard to find even without,I think only a few 1000s were pressed.

Somebody knows this group? (look at the faces, maybe you recognize someone...)

"Greg" is Greg Lake from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Who(m?) I HATE.

One Xmas my cool cousin Ray said he was gonna give me something that would "do my head in" and I was so sure it was gonna be killer dope that I invited some friends over to help smoke it - imagine my chagrin when it turned out to be Emerson Lake & Palmer's first album! Turned me against prog-rock forEVER.

Sir Stonesalot I just got tix to catch Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at Roseland in June.

Love the J.C./Nick collab of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" on American IV.

Nick's new record is a home run as well.

TheSavageYoungXyzzy That Joe reminds me of a certain Joe English, drummer for WINGS during the "horrid pop trash" period between 74-76 (I'll ignore those who say it was from 72-80)!

Moonisup GOING HOME
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Spendin' too much time away
I can't stand another day
Maybe you think I've seen the world
But I'd rather see my girl

I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, bome, bome, bome-bome-bome,
Home, bome, bome, bome, back home
Yes, I am

All those letters ev'ry day
Maybe alright in their way
But I'd love to see your face
When I get home in their place

I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, bome, bome, bome-bome-bome,
Home, bome, bome, bome, back home
Yes, I am
Alright

I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, bome, bome, bome-bome-bome,
Home, bome, bome, bome, back home
Yes, I will

When you're three thousand miles away
I just never sleep the same
If I packed my things right now
I could be home in seven hours

I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home, bome, bome, bome-bome-bome,
Home, bome, bome, bome, back home

Yes, I will
Yes, I will
See my baby, see my baby
I wanna see my girl
I just can't wait, I just can't wait
I just can't wait, I just can't wait

I just can't wait, I just can't wait
I just can't wait, I just can't wait

I just can't wait
I'll see my baby
She'll make me feel alright

Gotta see my baby
She'll make me feel so good
She'll make me feel allright
Yes she does
In the middle of the night
So good ti ti tight

Feel allright, come on baby
I'm gonna get home babe
I feel allright
I'm lookin' for my baby
I'm gonna go in the early morning
I'm gonna catch that plane
Now it won't be long, I say
Listen to me

Long time since I've seen my baby
Yes it is
It's such a long long time
Yes it is, I feel allright
I'm gonna see my baby, one more time
I get home, I gotta get home
I wanna see my darling

I wanna make sweet sweet love
In the middle of the night
Early in the morning
In the midnight hour
She'll make me feel so good
She'll make me feel allright

When she touch my hands
And that's all I gotta say
Cause I'm gonna pack my bags
I wanna see you baby
See your face
Your pretty little smile
Your pretty clothes
Hear you talk
Come on

I'm comin' home
I'll see my baby
I'm goin' home
I'm gettin' out
To see your face
Makin' love to you baby
Yes it makes me feel so good
Inside
I feel so good inside

Touch me one more time
Come on little girl
You may look sweet
But I know you ain't
I know you ain't

Sonny Rollins is playing near you? You oughta go see THAT. The one remaining direct connection between the bebop revolution of the late 40s and today, the Saxophone Colossus is just what the name suggests- a GIANT.

I saw him back in the early 80s and am glad I did. Can't go see Monk, Miles, Bird or Trane anymore...and there are no giants left to take the places of the fallen.

vampire Playing right now, Vampires, from "No Joke", a great Meap Puppets album.
A very good song for a Sunday afternoon & melancholic fall here.

Also in the player:
- Johnny Cash: Unchained
- Eagles: Hotel California.

VAMPIRES
As I'm lying there cold comforts blown from nowhere
And blue light is on the ground
And the coloring is changing reflecting everything
From cold mirrors all around

I see the candles on the mountain
I see the vampires that surround them
Shaking Shaking
Shaking Shaking

In the still of night we stop breathing from this atmosphere
Cause no air is all around
And the running vein
Is sung softly by the candle light
To cold waters underground

In the still of night we stop breathing from this atmosphere
Cause no air is all around
And the coloring is changing reflecting everything
From cold mirrors underground

I see the candles on the mountain
I see the vampires that surround them
Shaking Shaking
Shaking Shaking

The classic moment for me is the first song, "Deuce and a Quarter" - Keith singing with the Band. Wish they woulda done a whole album together.
