Magic baby, are you impressed with my INCREDIBLE SONY 400 CD PLAYER?
We could spend the entire weekend down at the Subterranean Tavern at Casa De Maxy and play CD's the whole time.
And never repeat a CD once.
Sound good?

Yeah, that's all well and good, but how do you listen to the bountiful T&A?
Hmm... that sounds like an excess of jumbly, Ronnie!

Course I do, but not right now, not all the time. May be boring.

Sir Stonesalot |
Vampire...
Joey Santiago still plays with Frank Black. He appears on both of Frank's new records: Black Letter Day(Outstanding!), and Devil's Workshop (also worth a listen). However, he is NOT a member of Frank's backing band, The Catholics. I'd have to look, but I'm pretty sure Joey has played on all of Frank's post-Pixies albums.
FPM & I saw the Pixies way back in the day. We sttod at Kim Deal's feet and looked up her dress. She didn't care at all. We saw her smoke an entire cigarette, down to the filter, without taking the thing out of her mouth, without dropping any ash, and without a pause in playing her bass. We we're impressed.
Oh, and the band was really good. I still have my "Death To The Pixies" shirt. |

Sir, Thanks alot. Very kind.
Yep, I have some Kim Deal (Breeders) & Frank Black stuff pos-Pixies.
They were a very beloved group down here in Brazil
Thanks again!

How did Vampire get in my family photo album?
Indeed I LOVE the Pixies - incredibly influential - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was semi-intended as a Pixies homage...
but in my player today is Johnny Cash: The Man Comes Around and Bob Dylan: Love & Theft. |

They were an English beat group from the mid 60s. The number in question appears on the Freakbeat comp pictured in my previous post. The Troggs also did this song, but I think this is the original version. It's retardedly poppy and rockin' in the way the Troggs are. It's a song that could have appeared on Rhino's second Nuggets comp.
Anytime you find a 60s picture sleeve single of a rockin' tune by an obscure group it's a damn fine day (if you're a record freako or a dealer).
Makes getting up at damn 7 in the morning on a Saturday worth the hangover.
Apropos of this conversation, I think that I am going to listen to nothing but 60s beat pop for the rest of the day.
At the moment: The Troggs: The Vintage Years.
Saw the JSBXE two nights ago, SIA - they were tremendous. Climaxed the set with a killer version of Yer Blues.
I love JC's version of the Mercy Seat. For me that's the climax of that record. Things really start to shake around that point.

I'm ashamed to say I only have the most recent of the American Recordings. I see this is from "Solitary Man" - American 3. When I get it I will let you know. Thanks for valuing my opinion.
Without hearing it I will venture a guess that I think it's great! I think it's a traditional gospel tune, and Johnny knows how to do those. |

LOL!
Sorry, Flea! I don't mean to mock. But considering what the Mercy Seat really is that just struck me kinda funny. I'll leave it up to you to discover the true meaning of the Mercy Seat.
You will love Solitary Man.
While you're at it get the first volume of American Recordings, too.
