Taylor plays one of the greatest octave chordal riffing I
ever heard on YCAGWYW on the chorus part. From any of the 72/
73 shows.A great example of this is from the Philly Special
boot from 1972.Aside from his great solo. |

I was thinking what was the stones best extended melodic solo after MT left.I am not inluding any slide work or pedal steel that RW has done in the studio.I think the
best solo was Wayne Perkins on Hand of Fate.I did not like Jimmy Page's solo on One Hit to The Body.I thought RW's opening introduction was better with the acoustic guitars.
Woody's best melodic lines were on Blinded By Rainbows off

1972/1973 the Stones with Taylor ruled. When they were on, nobody could touch them. Even thirty years later, no band has even come close. |

I agree with the Taylor factor they were the best act and that tour defined Exile and what went down in Keith's basement was transported on the north american tour.
The current version today of the Allmans with a young Dereck Trucks(he just stands there a plays sort of like Taylor and Warren Haynes is a great guitar duo but they are a jam band.Check out the new DVD at the beacon thearte, they do a great version of Across the River with Warren and Trucks trading some very fine licks. Also on the new song off there new record Old Before My Time,Warren plays a beautuful melodic slide solo reminds me of some of taylor's solo slide work. |
