agreed mel - while gazza has a point about mick's "shouty" vocals to me they had deteriorated even further by '81
that aside i think you are correct - they were firing on all cylinders - and they were still playing it like they meant it (except perhaps for jagger who seems to have a rather "off hand" attitude - it's only rock and roll indeed)
further, perhaps unlike the contemporary equivalents, the "hired hands" really do bring a lot musically (unfortunately billies satorial and dance contributions are less assured) - to me the addition of Ollie Brown was a master stroke - the second line percussion takes the (already) most rythymic of rock and roll bands up another level of funkiness - if you can't groove to this stuff you better check your pulse!!
