I know a lot of you dont look at the Bit Torrent thread as you either cant or dont use them, which is the reason for this post.
Last weekend, I managed to unearth 18 early mixes of 11 of the songs which were released on 'A Bigger Bang' and GotToRollMe has kindly uploaded them to gigasize for everyone to download. As they're mp3 sourced, we cant put them on the tracker, but they're something most fans will want to get.
here are the links :

If the link to the mp3's dont work, you can try Urban Steel's post on IORR as he has kindly upload them over there for us as well.

I think JumpinKentFlash has posted the link on shidoobee as well (cant access it from my work pc, unfortunately) so most people should have access to the files easily enough.

Thanks Gazza for your ever-vigilante quest to unearth these gems!!
Didn't get to listen to all of the album last night, but after hearing "It won't take Long" and "Biggest Mistake", it was obvious that these were different mixes. And thanks GTRM, for uploading them for us all...

thanks for the post Gazza - but I am unsure of how it works exactly - I enter the code to download, and it counts down the download time, but then nothing has seemingly been downloaded - any clues to why this is, it could be me not reading it properly |

well theyre all the same takes, so the differences are quite subtle. Just longer in some cases (check out Dangerous beauty and Biggest Mistake) and the mix is a bit different. I think the mix is a bit rawer than the 'cleaner' album mixes. Took me a few listens for it for some of the differences to kick in, but theyre definitely there.
I dont have as keen an 'audiophile' ear for these things as some do, so the main problem I have is discerning the difference between the various alternate mixes as some of the songs appear 2 or 3 times.

The timings of the tracks - with the length of the official release in brackets
1. Let Me Down Slow #1 - 4:17 - (4:16)
2. It Won't Take Long #1 - 4:12 - (3:54)
3. Streets of Love #1 - 5:10 - (5:10)
4. She Saw Me Coming - 3:22 - (3:12)
5. Biggest Mistake - 4:53 - (4:06) !!
6. This Place Is Empty - 3:16 - (3:16)
7. Oh No, Not You Again - 3:48 - (3:46)
8. Dangerous Beauty #1 - 4:14 - (3:48)
9. Driving Too Fast - 4:29 - (3:56)
10. Don't Wanna Go Home #1 - 4:33 - (3:32) !!!
11. Under The Radar - 5:09 - (4:32)
12. Let Me Down Slow #2 - 4:16 - (4:16)
13. Let Me Down Slow #3 - 4:17 - (4:16)
14. It Won't Take Long #2 - 4:12 - (3:54)
15. Streets Of Love #2 - 5:09 - (5:10)
16. Dangerous Beauty #2 - 4:15 - (3:48)
17. Don't Wanna Go Home #2 - 4:32 - (3:32)
18. Don't Wanna Go Home #3 - 4:33 - (3:32)
So, there you go..substantial edits in several of the songs ranging from a whopping minute extra of 'Don't Wanna Go Home', 47 seconds from 'Biggest Mistake, 37 seconds from 'Under the radar', 33 seconds from 'Driving Too Fast', 27 seconds from 'Dangerous Beauty', 18 seconds from 'It Wont take long', 10 from 'she saw me coming' down to a couple of seconds (or less) from some others
If there's a second differencen in the time between each of the mixes and the official release , its probably not an edit at all. And the various mixes of each song are basically the same length as each other too.
I'd be interested if anyone can tell of any significant differences they can find between each of the mixes of the songs which appear more than once. |

Its the same takes. Theyre different mixes, not different takes. There are some vocal changes in that there are some ad-libs here and there that have been edited out. I noticed Keith's backing vocal on 'wanna go home' higher in the mix too, amongst other things.
There arent any unreleased songs from the sessions. They used all 18 songs that they completed, so all you can hope for are alternate takes. With so much of the album being recorded in a private residence (La Fourchette) that may be a bit much to expect. Unless one of Woody's kids sells the tapes again, as happened with the Voodoo Lounge stuff

I've only listed to two, however, not knowing any of the times, I picked up on Biggest Mistake, a possible different vocal inflection on a part of SOL, Don't Wanna Go Home is nitty, gritty....Thanks again, I think this stuff is the balls...
BTW, I never knew the story about the Voodoo Sessions..I thought it was some disgruntled studio chap, wow, one of the Woodster's sons....wtf? |

I just contacted the guy who I got these from and the story is that he was temporarily working in a place about 18 months ago in New York which shared a storage facility with Sterling Sound, where the album was being mastered.
He was going through their server one day, saw a file marked 'Rolling Stones' and, being a fan of their music yet not to the degree where hes ever seen them live, was curious enough to make a copy on an AIFF File. This was before the album was released, of course.(July '05, we figured out between us).
Asked him if the lossless version still existed and he said that they didnt. He had some storage problems a while ago, and so they were lost. Fortunately he still had the mp3's however, so theres NO prospect of the uncompressed versions of these surfacing it seems.
Passed on a thanks on behalf of the Stones online community - he was pleased he was able to share it with us.

apparently so. Thats what I read. (I think Mathijs could confirm it)
Then again - I'm sure youre familiar with the much-bootlegged Dirty Work sessions (the first tape which included Invitation, Strictly Memphis, Baby Youre Too Much etc) - I had a low generation tape of that by early 1987, well over a year before it ended up on any bootleg LPs. And the indirect source of the tape was Mr Wood himself, it seems.
The difference is though that it appears he gave them to a fan in LA - and didnt sell the tapes to a bootlegger |
