Speedy, wait till you hear the wah-wah version from Perth 73 which is in the mail to you. You'll be converted!
Perth 73, yeah that's a great one.. especially Charlie's drumming... "never misses a beat!"..
Anyway, Gimme Shelter is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. By anyone. |

I concur with those who deem Gimme Shelter the Stones' best track. As usual, FPM has expressed my feelings about the song, if not better than I could, then at least faster than I did. |

tumbling dice and let it loose are the ones i could listen to forever but GS is probably THE greatest stones song in a historical context.
its dark, and summed up its time in a way that no other stones song did.
it was right after the king and kennedy murders, in the midst of an escalating vietnam, u.s riots etc.....and the song still seems so visceral and alive.
hunter thompson described bobby kennedy's impact on american culture by comparing it to GS -
he wrote rfk was like a shot of reality - just like gs blaring through the radiowaves...........cutting through the bullshit. |

Gimme Shelter - i never said i did'nt like it, just that there are at least 5 better Stones songs;
1. Brown Sugar
2. Jumpin' Jack Flash
3. Honky Tonk Women
4. Tumblin' Dice
5. Beast Of Burden
