ROLLING STONES rocker RONNIE WOOD has blasted former bandmate ROD STEWART as a changed man since he surrounded himself with "poofs". Wood claims the MAGGIE MAY hitmaker has become "Hollywood-ified" since he left the '70s band THE FACES, in which both performed in. Only recently, Stewart recently hinted there may be a Faces reunion, but Wood's rant may end that. He says, "With all the years he has been stranded away from that group thing, he's been Hollywood-ified. "He's got all this attention and all these poofs around him. He's lost the earthiness I know he still has inside."

Note to Ron: the same shit you said applies to Mick.

I don't like defending homophobia but poof might mean something more like wimp or sissy rather than something truly homophobic. Besides, Saint Sway is right, Ronnie Wood is also part of that London scene filled with all sorts of "poofs." Although Rod Stewart is beyond a joke now and has been since the mid-seventies. There's no return for that clown.

I find the comment towards a Faces reunion another attempt of the media falling into this shallow statement from Rod.
He had no thought whatsoever of reuniting the Faces.
His attempt at a rock lp is simply the worst piece of rubbish he's ever put out. Granted, it will probably sell well, I would rather be tied to a railroad track, facing a train, listening to "Baby Jane" than one track ever again from this syrup schlock. It is in HUMAN. What could've been, WTF would've been wrong with getting the Faces together now Rod, and putting out a real lp to sink your teeth into? Do that, tour behind that sucker, you are golden. It should also be said Clive Davis has done everything to keep Rod in the dough, thus Rod must kiss the ground he walks on. I predict that at some point in the next two years, Clive will pair Rod up with his other darling, Mrs. Bobby Brown, to put out some duet/soul lp or track, to rescue her from the powderhole she's been living in, which will probably also sell a gazillion units...MOR radio kills some old rockers... |

"The Killing of Georgie"
(Part I and II)
(Rod Stewart)
In these days of changing ways
so called liberated days
a story comes to mind of a friend of mine
Georgie boy was gay I guess
nothin' more or nothin' less
the kindest guy I ever knew
His mother's tears fell in vain
the afternoon George tried to explain
that he needed love like all the rest
Pa said there must be a mistake
how can my son not be straight
after all I've said and done for him
Leavin' home on a Greyhound bus
cast out by the ones he loves
A victim of these gay days it seems
Georgie went to New York town
where he quickly settled down
and soon became the toast of the great white way
Accepted by Manhattan's elite
in all the places that were chic
No party was complete without George
Along the boulevards he'd cruise
and all the old queens blew a fuse
Everybody loved Georgie boy
The last time I saw George alive
was in the summer of seventy-five
he said he was in love I said I'm pleased
George attended the opening night
of another Broadway hype
but split before the final curtain fell
Deciding to take a short cut home
arm in arm they meant no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down Fifth Avenue
Out of a darkened side street came
a New Jersey gang with just one aim
to roll some innocent passer-by
There ensued a fearful fight
screams rang out in the night
Georgie's head hit a sidewalk cornerstone
A leather kid, a switchblade knife
He did not intend to take his life
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night
The sight of blood dispersed the gang
A crowd gathered, the police came
An ambulance screamed to a halt on Fifty-third and Third
Georgie's life ended there
but I ask who really cares
George once said to me and I quote
He said Never wait or hesitate
Get in kid, before it's too late
You may never get another chance
'Cos youth a mask but it don't last
live it long and live it fast
Georgie was a friend of mine
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie, Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay

I thought they predated that song - which made "Georgie" seem like something of a courageous statement?

I see no homophobia in Woody's comments. And I agree with all of them. Yep, they do apply for Mickster as well, unfortunately.
People grow old. They change opinions, sometimes they lose their drive, they no longer feel like proving anything. It happens to the best of 'em Sometimes they manage to grow old and still keep their spark, other times they don't. It doesn't matter if you're a musician or an office clerk - the consequences of time make no discriminations. |
