iluvmickjagger07 the music these days are awful.
November 17th, 2004 04:44 PM
Riffhard Oh honey cheer up! It's not your generation's fault that the music sucks these days. It's the fault of the record companies that are force feeding shit music down the throats of the younger generation. The only fault that can be layed on your generation is that some young idiots actully buy into the shit that these megaconglamocorporate music dealers are pushing. Anytime I see some idiot kid cranking shite music in his/her car with the bass thumping and shaking the entire block I get mad at them as well as the companies that put out that fucking rubbish.

Your young so it's your job to educate some of your peers about REAL music!

KeithRichardsgrl I agree! The music now sucks, Really it's trash i don't like it. That's why i like classic rock, oldies and stuff because it all rocks!
November 17th, 2004 05:03 PM
Ten Thousand Motels hey I wouldn't worry too much about it. This whole "generational" context is a bunch of shit. It's more about epochs which last a lot more years. Hell even the history of "recorded music" is quite short. TV has only been around 50 years.

Dan There is plenty of good new music out there, you just have to know where to find it. However, I got tired of looking years ago.
November 17th, 2004 05:15 PM
Riffhard You have to remember these days it's all about "moving product". That means selling shit to young uninformed idiots that change their musical tastes as often as they change their underwear. It's all about the bottom line. That means it's totally based on the flavor of the month bands that have the shelflife of about six months. Do you really think that Linkin Park will be selling out arenas and stadiums after fourty years? Hell no! Those days are over. The only band around today that may very well be celebrating their 30th anniversary is U2,and there has not been one band since them that has a snowball's chance in hell of lasting even twenty years, much less the 40 plus years that the Stones have been putting asses in the seats.

Ofcourse years ago some corporate types did the same thing with regards to looking at it as a pure bussiness venture. Hello Monkees! That shit was frowned upon though and people that actully liked real music saw right through it. The Monkees were aimed at young kids that did not give two shits about musical integrity. Now days there is no integrity left in the music bussiness at all.

Too true my friend! Although these days it's worse than ever. Trust me I know. I've been in the radio bussiness for 23 years and these days even the record reps seem to be embarrassed by the shit "product" that they are trying to get us to add to our rotation.

On the up side there are some good bands out there. The White Stripes come to mind. Also,if you dig the piss and vinegar brand of rock,Saliva is a pretty good band. Silvertide is a great young band out of Philly. They are genuinly an ass kicking young band that are great live. Very Stonesy with a real swagger to them.

Angiegirl What a load of crap! What a cliche! There have always been people saying that very same thing, moaning "o, today's music/kids/art/whatever is so bad, it used to be so perfect, sigh", even 40 years ago.

There always has been good and bad music, liked by different people. Today is no different. There are just as many great bands and artists as there have always been. The only thing (and not with minor effect) that has changed is the way artists are represented and the way their music is presented. It's commercial business, yes. MTV and sorts bring you only the predictable acts, as do most popular radio stations in any country.

So yeah, maybe you have to get off your butt and take an effort to search great young bands. If I can find them, why can't you? There has to be something of your liking in there. There are soooo many great bands out there today, I'm just so puzzled how you didn't find them already...
November 17th, 2004 09:11 PM
gypsy I agree, Angie. But these kids today--there's a reason why they are morbidly obese--they won't get off their asses and look for new music. They will just sit in front of the TV, and take whatever MTV gives them.
November 17th, 2004 09:13 PM
Mr. D There's still some good music these days, but those bands are few and far between. Being optimistic, the music now is at least better than say the 80's or even the later 90's. But the quality of the "good' music these days is not even close to rock's golden era. But then again, I don't think music will ever reach the heights that were reached in then 60's and 70's. And I'm just not talking about classic rock. All forms of music were enjoyable then.

I can see someone saying "this generation sucks" though. There's so many teens who are completely unwilling to even try out older music. But I must say, there's more younger people listening to older music now than say five years ago.

Partly true. But what I think is the biggest contributer, is that kids don't get out of music what they used to. It doesn't mean as much. Collecting records; hitting the stores on major release dates; going to friends homes, hiding out in their rooms and spinning that new record. Those times are gone. Downloading a track here and a track there gives kids exactly what they want without even leaving the house. Record collections have turned into hard drive storage and mp3 players. And those are the ones that enjoy music.

ResidentMule "my generation sucks"

that's why people came up with a great idea decades ago that they could record their music so people could listen to their music years later. you should look into that

great music is always being made somewhere in some form. if your not finding it, its probably because your listening to different radio stations.

my generation has the Red Hot Chili Peppers. granted they're 20 years old, but they still have plenty of great music left in them - maybe even still have yet to put out their best album. for that (as well as other bands) I'm glad to have not grown up 40 years ago
November 17th, 2004 11:35 PM
glencar Excepting U2, maybe the Chili peppers & a few otehr groups, there's no longevity to today's musical careers. And groups like the Stones, DC5 & teh Kinks somehow seemed to float up to the older generations. I've seen a bit about some of the newer acts but they all seem to have one or two huge albums & then they disappear.
