This years nominees are:
Chic
The Dave Clark Five
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
R.E.M.
The Ronettes
Patti Smith
The Stooges
Joe Tex
Van Halen
Not exactly a great list. I would take REM, Stooges, and Patty Smith.
Van Halen could be intersesting just to see Dave, Sammy, and the rest on stage at the same time. |

That was kind of funky back in the day, really bad video though.
I agree. Grandmaster Flash not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Simply because it is not rock and roll. I see it coming Run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, Ghetto Boys, Snoop Dog, Marshall Mathers, ect getting in. Not rock and roll.
But then again there is Kayne West.

The Dave Clark Five-Nope, come on. A poor man's Beatles does not deserve to get in. I only like a few of their tunes anyhow.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five-Not R&R, and even though R&B acts make it, did they induct Jackie Brenston (who did "Rocket 88" one of the first true rong songs)? No, and Grandmaster Flash had one of the big first true rap records... so what! If they are ever going to induct rap acts, make it the truly lasting ones not the simple cult things just cause they set the path.
R.E.M.-Much more interesting before Stipe began to speak out and enunciate his vocals. Only good post-Document record I like is Out of Time. Everything else is either average of crappy to me.
The Ronettes-Not big hitmakers really. I don't see why they should get in for being a rather minor group, albeit one of Spector's best proteges.
Patti Smith-Not sure, but I'd lean toward yes for her unique approach to punk.
The Stooges-Hell yeah, a true trendsetting band with the primal garage sound that was later revealed in punk.
Joe Tex-He was a soul journeyman, but a good one. Hmmm, maybe this one needs more research,
Van Halen-Pre-1985 they were a tuneful hard rock band of the highest order and they pioneered new sounds in rock and deserve a spot for almost that alone.

I can't beleive some of these nominations!
I really think all the worthy ones were inducted in the first few years. Maybe they should've inducted fewer groups/artists each year so it could continue its credibility for longer?
The Dave Clark 5?? Thats absoloutley outrageous! They had about half a dozen top ten hits in the UK and only breifly made waves in the States during the so called British Invasion. They were an awful band.
REM? They have a few good tuines, but inducted into the rock 'n' roll Hall Of Fame? |

Ladies and gentlemen we are coming into an era where bands like Poison, Motley Crue, and all the other lame bands of the 80's will start to be inducted into this JOKE of a HOF.
It's gonna get real embarrassing in about 15 years when Robbie Robertson is leading the band in a collection of NSYNC AND Backstreet Boys tunes for the SuperJam, with "musicians" like the guys from Sum 41 and Blink 182 joining in.
I'm already feeling nauseas about rock in 2006, how about in 2020?
Shoot me now. |

If he hadn't taken two extended hiatuses from the music business while he was alive, but instead had kept working, and if he was still alive today, there might be more reason to induct him. But his total career oeuvre is too small. |

Does this mean we will get a Van Halen reunion with both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar?
By the way, I have read (what seem to be legit) rumors about a Van Halen reunion tour in 2007 w/Roth on lead vocals.
There is some question if Michael Anthony will be involved. From what I remember he has not been involved in talks thus far. Just Roth and the Van Halen brothers. Also, there will be no studio work to accompany the tour if these rumors are true.
Take it for what it's worth. |

i have less of a problem with dave clark 5 getting in than i do about rem....
at least DC5 were part of that british invasion of pop..
and they're OLD enough.
i love rem's early stuff, but they have NOT stood the test of time. too stiff in the rythym section.
at least DC5 is catchy and has rythym.... |

Iggy should do "Death Of A Virgin: The Sequel" or at the very least pull his pants down one more time and launch into a 45-minute Louie Louie. |

Oh come on Gazza, The Dave Clark Five was a great early R&R band. They deserve to be in there more than somebody like Earth Wind & Fire. Exactly what is the definition of rock & roll anyway? It sure is not ewf in my opinion. |

The Dave Clark 5:
Appeared on Ed Sullivan more than any other band, They also knocked the Beatle out of #1 several times. In the Hall of Fame ? I Don't know, but I like them. I understand the organist /front man, Mie Smith ,is very sick. I wish him the best. It was the first band I ever saw, was greatly influexced by them. Yeah let them in what the hell. Dave Clark saved alot of the early tapes of the Beatles and The STONES from being forgoten and thrown away. I believe he bought and saved the early shows from England.
