MB81 OK, I think the show was great, and for the most part, people were excited and courteous (except the Jersey Girls who kept calling the poor, overworked Merch guys "fat and slow".) I think if you're at a stadium concert seeing the biggest rock band in the world you should be on your feet, screaming, swaying and gettin' it on. I didnt't mind seeing the bald blue blazer guy making out hardcore with his old wife. That's cool. Enjoy dude, since it's probably coming few and far between. I can't understand the lack of total enthusiasm. Sit down and focus on the show? Do that at home with your stereo.
This wouldn't chap my ass so much if I wasn't a 25 year old girl meant to be born in the sixties. I didn't get to see my bands when they were in their prime, so when I see Bowie and the Stones i want to PRETEND that rock n' roll is still alive and we are all gonna smoke grass out of our water pipes and totally freak out the squares.

No, see the problem is that just because YOU think that these things are cool at a show, it doesn't make it that way for everyone else. Also, actually paying attention to what you have paid good money to see and hear doesn't indicate a lack of enthusiasm AT ALL. I don't think that someone who has seen multiple shows on every tour since 1981 could be logically be accused of that.

My advice to you? Stay home, smoke, put a copy of Let's Spend the Night Together on the DVD player, jump around, and pump your fists in the air, You'll have everything you need without bugging the shit out of everyone around you.

Poplar Just listened to some of Giants and I musts say:
Keith - misses far more notes than usual. Nothing like Glasgow (or other Europe highlights). He seems to be there for 30 second stretches, then is just fumbling for minutes at a time. Disconcerting.
Ronnie - carrying the water now. Let him smoke, he's working hard.

Riffhard No offense purrcafe, but when you go to a stadium show you gotta know what to expect. It may well be your umpteenth time to see the band and you may want to sit and enjoy it. However, many fans around you from various age groups may be seeing them live for the first time. If these people want to stand up,shake their asses, and party then perhaps you should you reflect upon the past shows where you did the exact same thing. I harbour no ill will towards anyone that wants to stand up and cheer at the sheer magnitude of the Stones stadium spectacle. Screaming "fuck you" at the top of your lungs is one thing, but standing up and shaking your ass at a Stones show is exactly what Jagger has always tried to inspire. That he can still get a crowd off their feet at this late stage says it all.

At the Gillieete show, there was a middle aged yob 2 rows in front who could not contain himself. He kept dancing & jumping all over the place. His dancing was almost never in time with the music. It was the same pace for every song. He & his somewhat normal friend had a banner that read "Sway" which they kept on waving even after the song was performed. I think they expected a reprise of the song. I found him amusing but I wasn't the one getting banged into by the little sparkplug. The hot young girls who were eventually got him booted.

throbby I would agree. Did anyone else notice the M16's at Giants, at the top of the ramp leaving the field area?

No offense taken. My point is, if you want to dance and go berserk, go ahead and enjoy yourself. But, also keep in mind that you are surrounded by (and directly in front of) other people, and that your enjoyment could easily be distracting and even ruining the night for others. If you want to remain standing from start to finish, great, show the band your enthusiasm, but MOVE to the back so that you aren't in the way of other fans. That way, everyone gets to have fun in their own way.

throbby Not security, NJ police officers. They were not slung over their shoulders either. They were being held in what I've been told is position 2. Both hands on the rifle, with the rifle aimed slightly downward. I've also been told that this position is taken when a threat has been recieved. I don't what was up but it startled the shit out of me. Nothing like rounding a corner and seeing a machine gun at the ready.

Do you keep your cell phone on when you go to the movies, or talk to the person next to you through the entire thing?

Wow! I knew you meant police officers btw! LOL! I did not notice that. Prolly some nut job called in a threat. That has always been a fear of mine in this day and age that we live in that some type of violence might go down at a show. With Patterson New Jersey a hotbed for radical Islmotypes I wouldn't at all shocked. Sad to say.

MB81 Wow, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Hey purrcafe, were you offended when Mick sang "she deosn't fucking know me"? My goodness, I came to this rock concert to enjoy the fine musicianship, not hear foul language!

I had a great time. I'm a hot young piece of ass and I shook it like there was no tomororrow. When Keith sang Little T&A, do you think he was like, gee, I wish those smoking hot girls in the front row would sit down and stop jiggling their mammaries in a provocative manner so the people behind them could see.

She's my little rock 'n' roll
My tits and ass with soul baby
She's my little rock 'n' roll
You got to shock them, show them

Not crazy pills, but stupid pills very likely. For your own sake, I can only hope that when you gain some maturity and perspective, which you are obviously lacking at this point in your young life, you understand that your good time doesn't superceed anyone else's, and that there are ways to do what you feel is appropriate without being an annoying little insect to everyone around you.

lotsajizz frankly, I hate people who sit at Stones shows for any other than physical handicap and can't stand the more recent American crowds...much more energy in South America or Canada....

29th September 2006 02:44 PM
Some Guy I got pretty damn wild at the Last Stones show I was at, kinda showed my ass a bit. But it was all good!
29th September 2006 02:56 PM
Saint Sway people who sit at rock concerts suck. Please, just stay home.

I was at the Who and had old dorks on bookends of me sitting the entire show. If you're that bored, then just go home.

People should stand and have fun and get into the show.

however...

• if you've drank to the point where you shouldnt be in public (i.e. falling over, shouting random shit, spilling beer, being billigerent etc) then go home.

• if you're knocking into people around you: STOP

• if you're fat/large please be mindful of where you're body ends.

• did I mention don't touch me?

• Dont sing/yell in my ear.

• if its not your seat, get out. Go find your seat. Same goes for cheap friends that you're trying to squeeze into my row.

• dont talk on your cell phone. (that goes for any public place where others dont need to hear you yapping on the phone - restaurants, coffee shops, trains, elevators...)

• if you need to get in and out of the aisle more than 3x during the show, you better be bringing me a drink on your way back.

• I cant believe I even have to mention this one, but I've been unfortunately witness to this at Stones show... so... FYI: THEY HAVE BATHROOMS FOR YOU TO URINATE IN!! Use them please.

• if you have to vomit, its time to call it a night and go home.

And I bet that any time someone on the web refers to themself as a "hot piece of ass" it can only mean one of two things: they are either a socially akward, overweight, acne ridden teenage boy, OR they are a socially akward, overweight, acne ridden teenage girl.

See, I don't understand the "hate" or the "suck." The fact is, people who want to watch the show closely aren't bothering anyone. If you want to get up and dance it would be great if you were doing it in a way that also doesn't bother anyone, ie, not in the way of anybody else. If I'd have wanted a seat with an obstructed view, I would have bought one.
29th September 2006 03:06 PM
marko US audience has been lazy since VL tour.Last time they were
wild,was 1989 and 1981.
29th September 2006 03:14 PM
throbby There are times when I think it should be general admission. Everyone can seek their own level.

If you do plan on sitting during show time please don't buy a floor seat.

Reminds me of Philly '78. The smell near the stage was a combination of reefer, vomit, piss, and sweat.

Hahaha! Excellent comeback, mom. Seriously though, I bet you bring an extra pair of socks to the next Stones concert in case someone spills beer on your shoes.
This from a fan of the band that sang:
"I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your I.D."

ahh.. yes the Philly crowds....

Philly 97 - 1st show of the tour w/the bridge.... inebriated idiot in the row in front of me (wearing a stones tie btw) squats on his knees and turns facing my row and begins to urinate under the seat at everyones feat.

he got a nice beating before being ushered out

Yeah, I saw 'em. I remember wondering if it had anything to do with the unusually late start.

Just an aside: I stood from the moment the boys took the stage to the last glimpse of Jagger waving after the final bow. Sometimes I danced, sometimes I pumped my fists in the air; I hooted and hollered and clapped my hands. Most of the people around me were doing the same thing. I just can't sit when the Stones are onstage. I think Mick and the boys prefer to see the crowd on its feet having a good time rather than just sitting there.

I wasn't obnoxious about it though, and I always take other people into consideration when I'm in these situations. I realize that some people can't stand through an entire concert, and some choose not to. That's cool too. Everyone around me seemed to be having a great time, though. Guess I lucked out with a good spot.
