Any good bands/artists worth checking out that got that Stones vibe to them???
I have the first and only album by Izzy Stradlin & the Ju Ju hounds and thinks it's great!!! Haven't heard his other stuff though. Any good?
I heard these guys/bands sound like the Stones a bit:
Gilby Clarke
Slim Dunlap
Vue
Col. Parker
Any recommendations?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Izzy Stradlin is allright. There's a great album by Primal Scream called "Give Out but don't Give Up". You'll dig that. Paul Westerberg (from replacements) solostuff is excellent. There's a new dude called Robert Randolph with "Unclassified". Great. Gilby Clarke is just Izzy's replacement in the defunkt GnR. he is pretty lame. georgia Satellites did some cool Stonesish grooves. Old Humble Pie. Johnny Thunders. Lucinda Williams!!! Many would probably recommend the Black Crowes. I don't like them that much. The attitude is there but I think they never understood one vital point that the Stones always got: at some point, somehow, somewhere you gotta write some killer songs. |

georgia satelittes, great singer Dan Baird!!!
you can buy all Izzy s records, specially 117 degrees....
also:
Cracker
Frank Black
Cake
etc.....developping.. |

Black Crowes - they did write SOME killer songs, especially on first few lp's. I'd recommend you get greatest hits as good retrospective if you don't have any already.

The Black Crowes are great and have many great tunes........ |

The Black Crowes were great in live and the singer Chris Robinson is one of the best voice in rock'n roll.
His last album is very acoustic but excellent.
You also forgot Aerosmith.. |
|
Nasty Habits |
Deadly Snakes --- New album, Ode to Joy, is best Stones sounding record I have heard in YEARS. Awesome.
Lazy Cowgirls -- Ragged Soul and Somewhere Down the Line are particularly Stonesy, although their best records, Tapping the Source and Radio Cowgirl, are more punky than Stonesy.
Hollywood Brats
Silverhead
New York Dolls

Agree fully my brother!
Shake Your Money Maker was the best thing in rock and roll to come out for a long long while. Remember 'Seeing Things' when it first came out? Whooa! Then Southern Harmony and Musical Companion! 1 - 2 Punch!
Hotel Illness is the best sounding Stones song I've EVER heard.
Just a shame they had mixed emotions and didn't stick together.
Didn't really like their last 2 albums but thats because Chris wanted to go in another direction musically.
You mentioned Aerosmith however, only good thing they've done was When The Train Kept A Rollin. |

Crowes have elements of the Stones sound, but they owe much more to the Faces and Humble Pie, IMO. Love their first two albums - after that, kind of spotty...
someone mentioned Robert Randolph - this guy is the real deal. New album is great. But, as far as having a Stonesy sound - not really. |

They were spotty, dunno why either. They tried too much?
Hey, listened to Stuggart 99 again last night. STILL haven't figured out if it's aud or sbd. |

I guarantee you Stuttgart is not an audience. Just what kind of line recording it is remains a mystery - possibly ALD. I've turned this on to several friends who are all duly impressed...great performance "to boot" (no pun intended).... |

Thanks for all the great responses! Keep em' coming. I will definately check out the bands listed. Which Paul Westerberg solo stuff is good to start with. I'm a big Replacements fan and I have heard/read that is solo stuff is very folk influenced. Though I read his latest "Stereo/mono" is great and a return to rock.
Anybody ever heard the Vue? They have an album out named "Find your home" thats supposed to sound big time like the Stones. |

Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You. I don't think any other song of theirs is Stones-like. But they sure got it on that one.
Another song is Pumping up the Stereo - by Supergrass. I can almost hear Mick singing that song. |

Primal Scream:
You'd all like most of there stuff:
Rocks,
Jailbird,
Movin' on up
Good post! |

>Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You. I don't think any other song of theirs is Stones-like. But they sure got it on that one.
probably the best Stones song that the Stones never wrote. cant decide whether its closer to "Brown sugar" or "Jumpin jack flash"!
>Another song is Pumping up your Stereo - by Supergrass. I can almost hear Mick singing that song.
me too. Not so much on the chorus, but Gaz Coombes' vocal on the verses are closer than any tribute band you'll ever hear.

If you're looking for Westerburg solo stuff - go get 14 Songs - probably the closest in sound to The Replacements.
As for Stones-like songs, Ryan Adams' Tina Toledo's Street Walking Blues has been called the best Stones song they've never written. It's off his Gold CD. While I very much enjoy the album, it is only that song that sounds like that - the first time I heard it I thought he must be covering one of their lesser known tunes - it's that similar. |

A group called the Chesterfields had a Stones sound & even did a cover version of an unreleased Stones song. |

Great, great, great! What album titles should I seek out for these bands:
HUMBLE PIE
GEORGIA SATELLITES
Sadly, I never heard The FACES either. Can anyone recommend a great album to start with theirs? Not really into "greatest hits" collections, more into the full-lengths.
Check out the MP3 from this band:

the dandy warhols come out of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, a local outfit whose name speaks for itself...
the crows always sounded like the stones to me. The first two albums are sweet. I also like amorica alot...
live white Stripes sound like the stones to me, esp. when they go back and give the treatment to old standards like Stop Breaking Down...
as fo faces recommendations - they just remastered and rereleased all that stuff, so pick up a live album, or the greatest hits - you do know that was Ronnie's band, don't you..?
westerberg did stereo and mono most recent;ly (the latter was released under a pseudonym that I cannot remember am). They are two solid albums. I believe he has another on the way...
finally there is a cover band that plays around here called sticky fingers that plays locally - they sound alot like the stones

Glencar...it's the Chesterfield Kings...and it's a good call, very very Stones sounding. They do some swingin' versions of Stones tunes.
I hear the Stones in the Kings Of Leon too. The bass player had on a Stones USA Tongue flag Tshirt on when they played on the Kilbourn show.
The 'Mats had a very sloppy, swingin' thing going on the later albums that put one in mind of the Stones, but still had a sound unto itself.
I can hear the Stones influence on Steve Earle, and also on Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain is what the Stones would have sounded like if they had grown up in the backwoods of Mississippi. Too bad Blue Mountain broke up...they do a song called "Go Away Devil" that is an inspiration. |

Yeah I really like Amorica by the Crowes also. I also like the Verve. They sound like the Stones from the 60's. Listening to Lucinda Williams right now. My wife is jumping up and down; she's been saying that Lucinda sounds like Keith.... Good suggestion. |

fuck best of's - buy Amorica. It maybe be when they started to sound less Stonesy, but its a damn great album. In fact, their first 4 albums were really good - and they make an excellent box set (Sho Nuff)
I saw Chris Robinson play Sometimes Salvation last night with Gov't Mule - he really is great |

Jet have some stones sound imo.
Particularly the song 'Get What You Need'.

Lucinda William is good and Ryan Adams Gold has some good stuff but try The Jayhawks, Hollywood Town Hall as well!
The Jayhawks latest one (Rainy Day Musics) is brilliant too, but not as Stonesy! |

To vinylkills: any one of the Faces official albums is great but you might want to start with their extra cool one "A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse". Rod was at the top and Ronnie plays a MEAN Slide all over the album. Ronnie L:ane writes some more UK-Country type songs, and of course there is the ultimate rave up "Stay With Me". Also find an album that has "Bad 'n Ruin" on it. Killer tune. Glad many dig Lucinda Williams. She is just too cool. "Car Wheels.." is IMO one of the finest albums in a long time. Robert Randolph is very very good, but whoever mentioned "style" is right. He has that gospel thing going, but also the distorted PedalSteel raging that sometime goes on forever. The Live disc's only weak point is that there are too many instrumentals. But that jam about "clap your hands, stomp your feet, scream" is a riot! 15 minutes of adrenaline. "14 Songs" by Paul westerberg is great. The thing about the Crowes with me is that I know them personally really well. Also before they were signed, when they used to sound like a bad REM Cover band. So I have a hard time seeing them objectively. But at the time they hit no one was actively pushing the Faces/ Humble Pie grooves like they did. So hats off to them. |

yes - that Chestefield King's album - Let's Go Get Stoned - replete with an Aftermathian cover pic - is pretty cool. They do a killer cover of the unreleased Stones song, I Can See It (sounding very much like the precursor to Live with Me) and a very faithful rendition of SFM. The singer has an uncanny Jaggeresque vocal presence too. Well worth finding.... |

Sounds killer. I will check those out for sure. I came across these bands sounding a bit Stonesy. Any input on them:
UNCLE TUPELO
WILCO
SON VOLT
