Nah the excellent LAT boot was a Tattoo You kind of Best Of, stuff from 1974 and 1979 mostly.
About Moll it was redone during the SW sessions and was reviewed by Chris M. on his site, but these darn SW sessions have never ever made it out to the general public, hard to understand why...
Only because security was better than during other sessions and no one stole the tapes, I would imagine...! |

Yes but they did make it out, at least Moll since ChrisM reviewed it in 1997, then when I asked him about it he removed the reference to the SW sessions and since I couldn't stop badgering him about it he finally said something to the effect of "there's some stuff I got but had to promise not to share it", fair enough, but it's had 10+ years to leak out now :-( Sucks !
I got hopeful when ouf friend bwaudby shared that one cassette from the sessions with Precious and Ready Yourself (a reworked Paris Hilton to me) and mentioned other oned but then he vanished... |

did they record in munich post 75-76?
i thought SG-DW ('77-'85) sessions, other than the RCA studios LA session post SG tour in Aug. '78, were either Pathe Marconi, Compass Point or a combination of both. |

IMO this is definitely Mick with Keith on harmony. My question is: which Beatles are doing what? Perhaps drums and bass?
After a little reading it appears that the song was recorded in '74 around the same time as 'only r % r' and the Beatles aren't even on it. Why it wasn't released anybody's guess. Royalties? Sounds trivial. They weren't afraid to cover ATPTB.

the reason it was not released, is quite accurately noted above, only room for one cover and that was ATPTB, and also only 40 something minutes available for the finished album, so "Drift Away" was bumped. BUT imagine IORR with Drift Away, Living In The Heart of Love & Through The Lonely Nights... |

I got this of Youtube, The Beatles were already done as a band at the time this recording took place, it's just somebody's fantasy about the Beatles being together with The Stones, by playing a audio recording with stills of both bands (mostly Beatles) |

None of the Beatles played on these sessions. Its utter fantasy.

Well, the point is they werent going to put TWO covers on an album for that reason, so they picked one of them. |

The last sessions at Musicland in Munich were in 1975.
Apart from those at Hollywood that you mention, all of the sessions from 1977-85 took place in either Paris, Nassau or New York (parts of all four albums recorded in that period were done in New York)
1975 - Rotterdam, Munich and Montreux (overdubs only)
1977 - Paris (plus NYC for overdubbing of LoveYouLive)
1978 - Paris, Hollywood
1979 - Nassau, Paris, NYC (overdubbing)
1980 - Paris
1981 - Paris, New York (both overdubbing)
1982 - New York (Still Life overdubs), Paris
1983 - Paris, Nassau, New York
1985 - Paris, New York |

Why were (and are, given the '02 sessions) the Stones attracted to Paris as a recording hub? |

From what I've read, and it is mentioned also in the Chris Kimsey interview link I posted earlier. The Stones loved the sound they got from recording at this particular studio, Pathe Marconi (though their were several state of the art studio rooms there, they used an older one), I believe they discovered it while recording SG in '77, it was torn down shortly after the recording of DW in '85. I'm going strictly on memory here, so some of it may be incorrect. |

I've read that it was torn down around that time too, but I distinctly remember stopping outside it for a photo (and a piss on a wall around the corner) en route to the Stones gig at the Parc des Princes in 1990.
maybe they just mean the studio they used was re-done? the building itself is (or was) still there and housed recording studios.
theyve recorded in Paris of course since then (Keith's overdubs for No Security in July '98, plus the '40 Licks' stuff, but at a different studio)
Most of the band had homes in Paris from the late 70's and after, so it made sense to have a Paris 'base'. |

Keith for sure had a flat rue St-Honoré, wonder what happened to it and not sure about the others, Ronnie rented a house in 1985 and they stayed at the Warwick off the Champs Elysees and had dinner at the "Val d'Isère" restaurant now closed before proceeding to Boulogne.
I think it was torn down in 1992, hence all the unknown stuff leaking out in late 93 (think Paris Results I, II and Better Results) and then lower quality stuff on Sheep Dip, etc...The same happened when Olympic in London was torn down and we got the BB and LIB outtakes. The reason being that the studios kept an original/copy of the masters of the recording sessions, the original/copy being kept at the Stones office as we found out in Being Mick!
Technically speaking, the "Paris" recordings were done in a town just outside Paris to the West, Boulogne-Billancourt and the 02 sessions South West in Suresnes at the Guillaume Tell studios.
@gazza - good catch and scary lapse with Paris/Munich Hilton !
@aladdinstory - do you have that Kimsey link handy ?

1992 would make sense, I suppose - as I was there in 1990.
Val D'Isere in Rue de Berri is some African restaurant now. Quite by chance I bumped into Bobby Keys at the Hotel Warwick in 1995 when he was about to leave to go to the Stones show at Longchamps that day. Still have the photo around somewhere.
One of my favourite Keith stories concerns his apartment in Paris - the occasion in the late 70s when he flew from New York to Paris, then realised he didnt know where he lived and had to phone the Stones office in New York to get the address.
I think Keith may still have that apartment (its near the Place Vendome too). Remember hearing an interview with Mick a few years ago in that he said the area of Paris he lived in had a lot of North African residents who didnt know who he was so he found it relatively easy to walk around unnoticed.

@gazza - Mick makes it sound like he lived in a dodgy area in the infamous "93" area where there were riots a couple of years ago, gotta feel sorry for the ol'geezer ! |
