Just returned from the KY.

I get into Louisville yesterday, around 2 PM. The weather is PERFECT, absolutely beautiful. I flip on the tele, watch the Weather Channel, and the report is that showers won't occur until AFTER Midnight.

Well....you know the rest.

Yeah, the set was predictable, but I had a good time. My mom had a GREAT time. It was her first show, so I kind of thought to myself "Hell, just think of others around here. It may be their first time, too. Bring the music, bitches!"

Towards the conclusion of Coop's set it poured. For the 1 HOUR between sets it rained like a muthafucka. Luckily we got a slightly ripped poncho for free from the very nice security lady. It helped up immensely between sets.

We were in Section 7, Row A. Front row. Not a bad view, if you ask me. However, there was much space between us and the stage. I'm sure there were some ground rules set for the Stones (no fireworks, don't fuck with the hedge, etc.). With the way everything is set up they couldn't move the front row up any further and the stage couldn't have been moved closer to us.

Gotta admit that "Rambla" was my fave of the night. It also poured during that tune. Absolutely came down.

After the encore, we were in a clusterfuck. A "bottleneck", which us engineerin' type folk like ta say. There's, what, TWO fucking entrances/exits to the track? That's not counting if you want to climb the fences to get to the bleacher area.

And guess what? I'm so happy that we were stuck in the clusterfuck! Ya know why? Huh? Do you really want to know?!?!?

Well...

I'm walking behihd this guy, a very svelt gentleman. He's wearing a black cap and what looked to have been some sort of thermal shirt (with the sleeves slightly rolled up).

I tap him on his shoulder. He looks back. I ask "Hey, uh...are you jb?" He says that he is.

"I'm Boomy!"

What an exchange! A very nice exchange of words. He was great. Asked me about my engineering degree. Fuck, I've known this guy on the Internet for 4-5 years, and my mother also greets him..after what, knowing him for a minute?!?!? Holy shit! He even joked around and said I could come down and work for him at his firm. Josh is a very nice man....and I gathered all of that from a two minute greeting (and we shook hands...and official "greeting"!).

All in all, a great time was had. I'm thrilled that my mom got to see them (my dad has seen them three times). I'm telling you, I did this for my mom. This lady took care of me for years. The least I could do is take her to the front row of a fucking Stones show. A great person who raised one son and is now raising my little bro.

BTW, she likes Mick. Shhh, don't tell her I said that. BUT! Maybe she could join the ROCC in spirit!

Thanks for reading,

P.S. OCTOBER 11th is COMING::::::::

Awesome, Boomy! From all accounts, despite the rain, it sounds like it was a great show. That's so cool how you ran into JB. I've heard he's a real gentleman in person, and I look forward to meeting him in AC. I think it's awesome that you took your mom and got some good seats from which to enjoy the show. My 85-year-old mother is a Stones fan too, but get this - her favorite Stone is Keith! LOL!

And yes, OCTOBER 11th is COMING...in 11 days! And then AC two weeks after that! Boomy, we are truly blessed to be seeing the boys this time around. This "mini tour" is like a gift from the gods.

Soldier Field...we're comin' atcha!

PartyDoll MEG Just home...Show has been digested and the adrenalin high has finally gone.

I'm not much for wordy reviews. This Stones Production ( even though mostly the standard setlist)was performed in the manner to which we are all accustomed. The sound was excellent where my cold rain-soaked body was placed. Mick was an even more energized, laughing, relaxed, and sexy entertainer than I remembered from prior shows. Charlie's flawless beat is what keeps it all together. Ronnie is unbelievable-even better than in London-playing lead and doing it almost flawlessly. What can you say about Keith.. He really is no different, IMHO, than he has been most of this tour. Sometimes he plays with passion and sometimes he is just out there. At one point early in the show, it looked like Darryl went over to him and kind of elbowed him, as if telling him to wake up. I did like YGTS- as it was a nice change to see Keith concentrating on singing. All and all a solid performance...(London shows still rank as my best)

Of course the highlights of the show for me were Dead Flowers and great version of Rambler. Oh and I must not forget the "delight" of being totally drenched and freezing cold, along with being ecstatically happy to have heard my band put on a great performance once again.

Churchill Downs is a beautiful place. It is not meant for rock concerts. Pugs was right about the venue and their lack of "preparedness" for this rowdy drunk crowd. I felt extremely sorry for the folks at the far end of the stands. They paid good money to look at a big screen. There is no way the could see the Stones.

Next stop....Chicago...change it up PLEASE

I have never seen the stage that far from the audience. Louisville and basically most of Kentucky should be humiliated with the logistics involved here. and if someone else was responsible for security, planning, and execution, they should be held responsible.

One hour to go through the tunnel to get to the bathrooms and concession area between sets is unacceptable. Security in and outside of the stadium had just threw up their arms and given up!

I shall never attend a show in Louisville again until I am personally briefed on the security and logistics before hand!

Thankfully, the Stones and Alice worked their asses off. Would have been nice if the stones cared enough not to insult us with that setlist too, it was very evident that the stones realized this was a mistake and just said "Hell with it, lets just work hard, basic set, and get the hell out of here!"

throbby Ouch! Sounds a little like the logistics at Hershey last year.

Then on top of all that you had the rain to deal with. It must of really been shitty for the fans on the far ends who probably couldn't even see the band.

They had the Big Screens, Throbby, and they were under cover from the rain. Maybe it was worth it to them.

I heard someone say the stage was placed so far back because of the hedges in the Winner's Circle. Don't know if that is true or not. Makes for a "good excuse."

Jumping Jack I have seen many discussions on this board over the years about what you would say if you ever had the chance to meet one of the Stones, and it was difficult to answer even with time to think about it. But, what would you say to Michael Cohl if you suddenly bumped into him? Think about it while I tell you about the day’s events.

We drove up from Atlanta the day before and stopped in Bowling Green on Thursday night. We hit the Corvette museum after breakfast because my first Stonesmobile back in the day was a sweet 69 Corvette with a 427. How I didn’t kill myself to and from shows in the 70s is a story for another day, but suffice it to say the hand of fate has often been on me at Stones shows for a long time.

We drove up to the Galt House and Wendy (Tippy Toe) kept saying that the last ATL2 show from the front row could never be topped. She said CD would be fun, but she probably had already experienced the ultimate, having Mick wink at her after laying Sway on us and having Keef soloing on Brown Sugar to her. We arrived at the Galt and hooked up with Fred Hardin, IGTBA, Saintofme, ExiledinMedina and others, then caught the 2:00 pm shuttle and headed to B O’B. Thanks Fred, it worked out great!

Met a lots of Shidoobees and ROers and there was “greeted” with many Heinekens. The highlight was the Madame and Rubykel presenting TippyToe and I with personalized “Who The F&*% is Coop?” T-shirts. Quite hilarious, y’all are quite the pranksters. I had to eat some crow and as an appetizer about Atlanta getting humiliated this leg, but it is not bad with HP sauce.

Got to meet and chat with the lovely Partygirlmeg and her friend Peggy for a while which was a true pleasure. Picked up one of Stonesman’s great shirts as well. Thanks Fred for the creative artwork. Does it look like we are having fun? Nothing like living large with the Stones babes!

Anyway, after getting warmed up for the show we decided to head over to CD to get an early jump on shopping. We were in line for about half an hour but got a very nice orange Halloween Coop T-shirt (which I planned to wear during his set) and the special CD Stones T-shirt. More people wanted Stoneman’s shirt that I was wearing than the official stuff. I did take that shirt off and put it in the bag for safe keeping. With our package in tow we decided try and find our way through the maze and out onto the track. I grabbed another cold beer on the way through the tunnel realizing it might be tough to get back. That was a good move.

As we crossed the dirt track we stopped and took in the sights, the spires, grandstands, imagining where Secretariat, Barbaro and the other champions had given their all. Crossed onto the dirt and went up to the sacred hedges to head towards our seats in our green Shidoobee shirts.

That’s when the hand of fate touched us again. While we are wandering to our seats Michael Cohl and his assistants appear in front of us. I know what many of you would like to say, but what would you really say if you suddenly bumped into him?

TT – Michael, Michael Cohl?

MC – Yes

TT – Do you know how much money we have given you in the past few years? I’ll bet it has been $50,000. (Only a slight exaggeration, LOL)

MC – (gets a big ass smile on his face) Well thank you darling!

TT – Wishes him a Happy New Year and all the best to his family.

TT – gives him a nice hug and a kiss on the cheek.

TT – Then, asks him why the Stones are not coming back to Atlanta. (Atlanta folks, you would be proud, she busted him pretty good, LOL)

MC – Turns up his nose and says it won’t sell and that’s that.

Wendy gets a real look of disappointment on her face.

MC – So what can I do for you?

TT – Not missing a beat says she has always wanted to go to the Rattlesnake Inn. She says she’s an accountant, a normal person and not a psycho, and going backstage to the Rattlesnake Inn has always been a dream of hers.

MC – OK, let me see your tickets and I will send my assistant over to your seats. You will have to behave though.

A little small talk and he is off.

We walk to our seats, wondered what happened, if his deputy was coming back.

I bumped into a friend from Atlanta who was in the section behind me and explained what had happened. Within 5 mins Wendy is calling up to me. Michael’s assistant had two passes for us and we were off, passing Glimmer Deb on the way and saying hello, and then through the sacred hedges to heaven.

As many of you know, we are huge Alice Cooper fans and had picked up front row tickets to the Ryman show the next night earlier this week. As a matter of fact, I took Wendy to the Tennessee Theater on her 55th BD for a show this summer where she had met some of the band and gotten autographs.

So after wandering back stage and around the trucks we see the huge tents and one with a big voodoo type statue with a big snake and a sign that says Rattlesnake Inn. The first person we meet is Eric Singer. Wendy praises his outstanding drumming and tells him how much we enjoy his shows. Next, was Damon Johnson who was talking with Chuck Leavell. We mentioned that there were far too few rock shows in the south these days. Damon said he has been trying to get Coop to play a show in Birmingham for years. We laughed about the yuppies at Chastain with their quiche, wine, tablecloths and candles at rock shows.

I did ask Chuck about the third Atlanta show and he said we had two and should be happy. I think he was tired of being asked about it because it wasn’t his call. I asked him about the setlist and he smiled and went for some food. He must have known we were going to be Omaha’d, LOL.

Speaking of food, the spread inside the tent was awesome with many hot dishes, salads, deserts, and assorted goodies. By the time we got to Drakes at 2:00 am we both wished we had taken full advantage, but inside you are thinking about behaving, not being intrusive, and not annoying anyone. Just didn’t seem the time to pig out, but I did get to sample a variety of goodies. I must admit to coming across Keef’s Shepherd’s Pie, taking a sample and later going back for a healthy plateful. Crow with HP sauce was good, but Keef’s Shepherd’s Pie with HP is heavenly!!! The crust was already busted.

We saw Jo Wood and Wendy told her she loved her products. We mentioned how great the organic food was in the Rattlesnake Inn. We also told her to thank Ronnie for his great artwork and passed on we had two of his beautiful paintings in our office.

I went for some chocolate chip cookies when I bumped into Charlie. I ever so briefly thanked him for his 40+ years of great music and many years of hanging around, told him we are so happy he is healthy again, and got to shake the master’s hand. I think I got a bit of a smile, LOL.

We also said hello to Blondie, Bernard, and Bobbie Keys who was fighting a bad cold. Bumped into Denton and VoodooAllie and said hello, it was great to see some other fans back there. We got to see Keef’s dog back there. We heard SSMC being rehearsed and hoped it might get played, but it was not to be. It sounded good though.

Spoke a little more with Coop’s band and Damon introduced his beautiful wife to us. She was pretty excited to have met Mick earlier. It is clear the Stones have been a huge influence on all of them and it was a special day for all. Anyway, Coop came out of his trailer and was driven up to the stage. Everyone else walked up including his daughter Calico. We told Damon we would see him in the front row at the Ryman the next night and wished him a great show.

Although there was a big screen TV with a live feed of the stage in the Rattlesnake Inn, we decided to head back for the show. We passed back through the sacred hedges and into the front row. Some people must have been caught in traffic and not gotten to their seats so we just walked down the front row all the way to the walkway for the show.

Alice Copper and his band put on a low frills, absolutely blistering 14-song, hour-long set and kicked ass big time. I am telling you, if you haven’t seen them in recent years you really need to go. They are a very close second to the Stones on my favorites list. We had a great time rocking out and getting everyone’s attention from the band to Joshy in his very expensive seats in the front rows on the other side of the walkway. JB is looking very lawyerly these days with his new ‘do! We managed to get some Dirty Diamonds, Coop’s cane, Eric’s drumstick, and Damon’s pic, although it was a pretty good shot over the sacred hedges. The security staff was quite nice and after the show picked out some pics that had fallen short into the bushes. It started to rain lightly in during the second half of the set.

We tried to get back to the Rattlesnake Inn after the set, but by then could not get back through the hedges and were told to go way around to the tunnel accessing the backstage area. It took a good 30 mins to get there and by the time we arrived the Inn had closed and the On Stage folks were coming back. We tried to take the shortcut back to our seats but security was very tight. By this time the forklifts were starting to pack things up backstage and we almost got hauled off in a port-o-potty, LOL!

It was a heavy downpour at this point and we bravely fought the crowd on the long hike up through the tunnel, grandstands, and back onto the field in time for the show. I will let others describe the show in detail, but will offer a few observations. JJF seemed pretty weak after Coop’s set. Mick seemed to be very careful at first with his voice and his footing in the downpour. After the first couple songs it was clear we were getting Omaha’d. Keef was looking very frail and was really concentrating on what he was doing. He did not appear as jovial and carefree as previous shows this tour. He may not have been feeling very well, but the show must go on. Blondie plays a lot of acoustic through the show and Keef is playing as he wishes on top of him. Ronnie carried a lot of the show and was playing great!

After 3-4 songs things picked up quite a bit, Mick’s voice had loosened up, and the Stones were rocking full force. It is clear Mick really loves SOL. Rambler is always a treat and done very well.

Keef’s two songs were great and his singing on YGTS was excellent. Little T&A was fun to hear again too! Maybe not quite as driving as ’81, but great to hear and done better than I had expected. The rest was a typically great Stone’s show with PIB added. I finally got Wendy to follow me to the B-stage where we got to the rail. The 8-foot separation was wider than for indoor shows but still darn close. Mick really hammed it up, but Keef was reserved and concentrated on his playing.

All in all it was a great show. The crowd and rain added something to make it memorable evening. Sure it was a bit inconvenient, but it wasn’t like Woodstock or Watkin’s Glen. I sometimes think younger fans are spoiled rotten and pampered. Sometimes life throws you obstacles and you simply have to make the best of it. Life is what you make it. We walked back to B O’Bs, got on the bus and headed to Drake’s studio for the party. Thanks so much for arranging the bus Fred, you did a great job!!!

Drake’s party was outstanding and he was a super host, thanks buddy! We got to share reviews with our friends their and listen to Moongoddess’ tale of her Meet and Greet and kissing the Stones! She was on Cloud 9 and obviously had the time of her life. Who wouldn’t after landing big kisses on the boys? Drake played his rough boot of the show and it sounded fantastic even without his magic. Drake, you did great with the boot and the party and we are really appreciative.

The next day we were pretty tired and recovering from the cold and wet night the previous evening. Because we had a long drive to Nashville, and the weather was looking threatening we decided to skip Stoneman’s Pig Gig and just get on the road. I understand it was a tremendous event and regret missing it, but it all worked out for the best. We drove through the rain and made in to Nashville where it was sunny and in the high 70s, at least 20 degrees warmer than the ‘ville.

We were in the front row for Coop at the Ryman and saw an incredible show. We got lots more goodies including drumsticks, pics, etc. The best part was standing right in front of Damon who was playing unbelievably well all night. We were next to the $450 Meet and Greet people who had guitars in their faces not more than 3 inches from their noses several times. The boys all remembered us from the night before and the fact that I am tall and had a bright orange Coop shirt on made me hard to miss. They played up to us many times during the set, but TT’s highlight was Coop singing Be My Lover directly to her with Damon’s lead screaming in front of her. It really was a special time. The entire bands works extremely hard and I cannot imagine a more energetic show. Catch a concert while you can and get the Montreux 2005 DVD. Coop is the most underrated act in the business and the biggest bargain around at $30-$50 a ticket.

Well, I am tired and need to get some sleep from a great weekend. Front row to two Coops shows, the Rolling Stones at Churchill Downs, backstage passes to the Rattlesnake Inn, meeting some of the Stones, shaking hands with Charlie, and partying with the Shidoobees and RO fans was fantastic. Now I must go back to my mundane life and let it all soak in. Sorry if this is all a bit wordy, but I wanted to do a brain dump while it was fresh in my mind. I hope Wendy gets a chance to add her observations today as well.

We may not be getting a third Stones show, but the Stones karma is alive and well. Keep the faith, stay positive, and enjoy life as it comes. God bless the Rolling Stones and Michael Cohl (even though I am now poor) for all the joy and happiness they have brought us over the years.

Jumping Jack PartDoll MEG - You'll be there! Make it happen. It will be a weekend to remember.

SS - Damon is a great guy and his wife is a cutie. Both huge Stones fans and enjoying the moment and even a bit nervous. When we drove into Nashville I passed him walking on the sidewalk. Turns out he was in hot pursuit of a guitar being held at a famous local guitar shop. You guys help me out with the name of the shop. He is one hell of a guitar player!!!
