Ahh, I've gotta disagree with you there. They gasped along and The Stones didn't kill them until Let It Bleed, compared with Let It Be. Both are great albums, but... That one belongs heart and soul to The Stones, no question. The Beatles saved themselves from Jack Flash (not overdid! Just held their own!) with "Hey Jude" and The White Album, and even Abbey Road, but once Let It Bleed hit the scene, that was it, man. Everyone knew The Beatles were over. Very sad how they broke up like that, but I think that spares us having to hear the terrible stuff that McCartney did solo with Lennon's name attatched! And visa versa!

Yes, it's an original thought, sirmoonie. But it was inspired by John Lennon's insecurity/jealousy that the Stones just kept rocking harder and harder, they wouldn't relent, while Paul McCuntney was turning out puke like "Your Mother Should Know". |

Naw... I don't think a Paul McCartney board would have the same... spark... that a Stones board has.
If you don't like Paul McCartney on principle or were scarred as a youth by Wings At The Speed Of Sound, I strongly encourage Run Devil Run and The Russian Album - both of them are just fulla oldies, and while I still prefer The Stones's version of "She Said Yeah", they're both great old-fashioned cover albums with none of that "Silly Love Songs" crap.

I still get a giggle everytime I think about a group of cocky 16/17 year olds, guitars slung over shoulders,home made demos, and sheet music at hand; "what the fuck? this don't sound like Street Fighting Man" My girlfriend telling me what a great job we'd just done of the 'CARS'..'Let's Go!' When you're attempting to play The Stones so much depends on accenting, and phrasing, anyway no matter what nobody ever really gets it right. There songs IMHO are the best musical school there is. Zeppelin for example are a great technical group, (I mean were), but whereas I've seen guitarists pull some of the licks off with apparent ease, ask them to nail the intro to 'Brown Sugar', and their all thumbs. They are brilliant in their simplicity, that's why Keith never gets mentioned alongside Clapton, Beck,or Page. Alot of people just don't get it at all. |
