How does one get a hold of this boot that I hear so much about? That one being me...... Why in anyone's opinion is this superior to say a Hampton 81? |
|
|
| sammy davis jr. |
I DON'T think it's superior to Hampton '81.....it's just different. Sloppier. A little repetitive since all the discs basically have the same songs. It does have a great energy, especially disc 3. I'd be happy to trade if'n you want. |

Differnt tour, different vibe. Once you get over how shockingly raw it is, the version of Hound Dog alone is worth the effort and cost of getting the set. |

handsome girls?? the best boots!!!!

My good dutch friend Rik, a/k/a Moonisup sent me the finest copies of this 4 disc set. If you ever questioned if the RS did anything worth listening to after MT's departure, this boot answers it in the affirmative...it is the last time the Stones ever sounded great. |

I'm not so sure I would call HG rawer than Hampton. Those tours had nearly identical line-ups. And the tempo was fast for both. The difference, in my mind, is that the guitars in '78 sound like guitars. The guitars in '81 sound like sick cats clawing at old trash cans. And I think Keith and Ronnie played better in '78 than '81.
And Mick sings in '78 whereas he kind of croaks in '81.
And the rehearsals are great -- you also get High Heel Sneakers, Walk and Don't Look Back, Beautiful Delialah (sp?), Prodigal Son with Ronnie playing slide, some great bluesy jams!!!

" Prodigal Son with Ronnie playing slide, some great bluesy jams!!! "
Nanky , Prodigal Son has NEVER really been played well live .
Yet , IMHO , Respectable was EXTREMELY good live in 1999 .
Word to your GrandMother !
D.J. Jercee Joe and the Fresh Prince of Boca !

Some Girls was great in '99 -- Respectable was only good in '78!
Prodigal Son would have been great in '78 if they had played it. |

Beast of Burden sounds even better acoustic !
Even better than sweet Virginia in my opinion .

Word To Your Mother!
I'll listen to that one again tonight in your honor.
Rare time but I've never listened fully to that show, only bits.
All I remember now is Mick was on fire that show. |
|

| nankerphelge |
marko you crazy bastard!
'81 was flacid compared to the steel-girder-like, most rigid '78 tour!! |
|
|
| steel driving hammer |
Keith, Ronnie and Charlie Rocked harder in 81-82 than 78. |
|
|
| nankerphelge |
Bullshit!!
Ronnie was far sloppier in '81 than '78. He was already dragging his feet by '81. In Buffalo, he actually sat down at one point during the show and Mick lit into him to stand up!! Slacker!
Charlie is lost in the mix of all the '81 I've listened to. He runs Handsome Girls.
Keith was fine for both tours -- but the guitar still sounds weak from that tour -- no matter how you slice it pizza boy!

81 was the beginning of the end...the worst song selection of any tour, Mick sounded like shit...I rember seeing the who a few months later at the tangerine Bowl and had to listen to my friend say how they"blew away the stones"....81 was very weak...78 was almost as good as 75.

Just the facts, and some Pizza:
1. Stones knew on Handsome Girls they were being professionally recorded, so they loaded up Coke and rocked.
2. The 15 or so 78' shows I have, not incl Jersey, Houston and HG are sloppy and Colorado 78' was IMO, the worst performance on any tour.
3. In 1982, every single show rocked and band was tight and guitars were mean.
4. I don't think in 78 or 79 they could of done a European tour. The band was wasted and Micks voice was shot down in flames. His performance on SNL proved just that.
5. Word To My Mother! |

hah Nanky,but i think 78 was sloppy,except for ft.worth and
washington. You should hear shows like boulder, philly,la shows were tooooooo sloppy, and slow tempo. |

Whenever I hear ANYTHING from the ' 81 tour , I get that " the party has just started feeling " .
I hear barkers and see colored balloons falling down all around me . Hug Me .
