PRAISE GANESH!
Actually, I'm not a big Taylor fan, but this IS interesting news and now I'm more curious about this gig than any other one on the tour. Do we have people on the inside who will keep us posted as it happens, or do we have to wait till it's over? |

Thanks Beer!

Guys, I highly doubt they're going to piss away Taylor on 12-bar blues. That just doesn't make any sense. They can get any old guitar legend to do that shit (a la Clapton in A.C., '89).
Bank on a Stones original. |

I'm usually lurking here. Am a friend of Moonisup, SSC and Mathijs (who are all inside). Will receive some text msgs, probably. Mathijs told me he was almost 100% sure that Taylor will join. |

Sweet. Welcome! Post 'em if anything interesting happens, like "Suddenly, Jeff Beck comes out of the shadows and reclaims Ronnie! Rod Stewart kicks Mick offstage, telling him to join the new Jeff Beck Group! Taylor sheds his suit and reveals that he hasn't aged a day since 1969! Keith finds the Holy Grail! Bill's wig falls off and he can't make it! Charlie misses a beat!" |

Will report anything they send me. Maybe we should go in one of the chatrooms when the show starts. That will be in 2 hours or so, right? |

That's what I was thinking too. Why the hell waste this rare opportunity? That would just be another gratuitous slap in the face of Taylor. Put him where he belongs. CYHMK, YCAGWYW, Gimme Shelter, etc. Make it memorable! |

Sounds like a good plan.
Into the chatrooms, in two hours... the most recent one's my favorite, #1, the one that tells everyone to be "courteous and polite".

Could this be fate? Or planned?

I wouldn't go that far - I just don't consider him the second coming of Ganesh that some do. He was present for some of the Stones' greatest moments as well as some of their lamest, so I tally up his scorecard as dead even. And I think the ideal set-up for the Stones guitar-wise is interlocking parts rather than sharply defined lead-rhythm roles. Plus he QUIT.
The Stones' glory days of '72-'73 have more to do with the fact that they were all under 30, and the cocaine was still working, than the fact that Mick Taylor was onstage. If I want long noodling solos I'll go see Phish.
Having said all THAT, I am overjoyed for my Taylor-loving friends, and more excited about this gig than any since they left the States. Of course, it's already being blown out of proportion - he will NOT be asked to rejoin the band. Besides, the Stones NEVER give the people EVERYTHING they want. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays "Rock Me Baby" and nothing else.
We shall see! |

As far as I know Mars Bars will not be allowed into the Astoria. |

FPM -- The thing about Taylor, I think, is that he doesn't noodle: he's got great phrasing. It's the difference between verbal diahrrea and sparkling sentences .... |

The news:
* They (boys + Taylor) have been rehearsing the past days.
* There is no extra amplifier onstage according to Mathijs.
* He is, however, 99% sure Taylor is *planned* to join. They can always cancel that 1 minute prior to the performance of course.
* Things were very cool inside: very relaxed entrance, no pushing etc. It seemed as though support act would start any minute.
* People inside found the Astoria not a very attractive venue compared to Olympia or Vredenburg. It also looks really small. For what it's worth. They are inside, so never mind the appearance of it

FPMC10-I don't recall any "lame" Mick Taylor moments. Ronnie, on the other hand, has been "lame" since 1981.

Does the fact that Taylor stays in the same hotel as the Stones mean they are going to allow him to play with them?
