Can't say I understand the concept of not caring who opens.
Sure it's nice to get to the venue early - perhaps a pre-show party, dinner and a few drinks. But in the case of the Rolling Stones, they have the ability to generate "good" opening acts. So, with the money you've paid to see the Stones, why would you shy away or not care about seeing an additional band essentially as a bonus?
If it's a band you don't like, fine, I wouldn't arrive early either. But to abandon the hope for a respectable opener just doesn't make sense, imo. |

Well that's cool too - to each his/her own. I think you do have a point about the Stones being able to host some decent acts. Certainly there are a number of well known acts that might jump at the chance to open but it looks like they've actually invited a select few already. So in certain areas we get the pissers... no big deal to me. I'll be arriving at Fenway early enough to stroll around, drink a beer or 3 while hearing the unintelligible noise of the Black Eyed Peas on stage. LOL I didn't pay to see them anyway.
In the past I've seen some okay openers I guess but I'm very picky with my music and openers by and large are never really known to me. I have to admit that there was an opener at Wembly Stadium in London on the Urban Jungle tour that was quite good (I was in the US Air Force at the time). I don't remember their name but they sang a song called "Rockin Around The World"... or something like that. I quite enjoyed them. I believe there was a third act as well called Gun? Oh who cares, I didn't pay to see them either. LOL
Red Hot Chili Peppers were okay at the Rose Bowl in 1994 - but I don't own any of their music. I don't remember the openers at Dodger Stadium in 1997 and Bryan Adams opened Anaheim 1999. Wait... have I seen Crissie Hynde at some point? Yep.... Boston 2002. Never dug the Pretenders.
See? Openers are in large part forgettable to me. I love the Stones and that's who I pay to see.

I know why its different here. We have allocated seats. So i can rock up at 1 minute to show time, and know i will be in the front rows.
It's probably different elsewhere, so sorry for that.
Still dont give a shit about opening acts though.
Except when Kings of the Sun opened for Guns n Roses in 88, and Rose Tattoo opened for the Gunners in the early 90's.
But, then again, they were rocking AUssie bands. Not candy assed Yank faggots, or 3rd rate, make up wearing, "Ow's ya father" new wave Poms.

Sorry, gotta post that again. Its old, but i love it.

This has made me think of all the openers I've seen for the band starting with The Meters on the '75 tour. Some good some bad. I will try to catch an opener if I'm not familiar with their stuff. |

I think I would like to see Rose Tattoo open for the STones. |

While admittedy, the opening acts leave a lot to be desired. There are a few rivers of hope in this vast wasteland, in this vast desert.
WILCO is coming to the rescue for many on October 15th. The combination of this band & the STONES should make for a great evening of entertainment. I, for one, plan on coming early so I won't miss any of the action to this SOLD OUT show.

Rose Tattoo would be an amazing choice for opening act if the old buggers come to Oz. Just perfect. Even old Corgi boy would ensure he saw 1 or 2 songs.
But, they'd probably go for some up and coming act.
Like, er, do we have any up and coming acts here in Oz? |

Gun opened the first half of the 1990 tour and did the 3 shows at Wembley Stadium in July 1990
The Dan Reed Network were the opening act for the second part of the tour and would have been the openers at the Wembley shows at the end of August |

Thanks! See, I don't remember. I was just excited to see the Rolling Stones. So Gun opened 6th July 90 then. So are they that old group that sang "rockin around the world"? WAIT Status Quo... is that their name? Oi, maybe they opened for Rod Stewart in Ipswich instead. Hell, I don't remember, but I saw them once and I liked them a bit! LOL |

Gun did that Cameo cover of Word Up, their only hit. They faded into oblivion after that, which is a good thing IMO. I saw them open in Rotterdam May 1990 as well, my first show. It was terrible. |
