FPM C10 ALL-STARS AND STRIPES!!

THE WHITE STRIPES are teaming up with STEVE COOGAN, IGGY POP, TOM WAITS, STEVE BUSCEMI and ALFRED MOLINA in an all-star film project for veteran NEW YORK indie director JIM JARMUSCH, NME.COM can reveal.

With Jack White’s big screen role in Anthony Minghella’s ‘Cold Mountain’ due for release later this year, both Jack and Meg will now play themselves in a feature-length collection of self-contained scenes entitled ‘Coffee And Cigarettes’.

"It’s very naturalistic, semi-improvised dialogue," Steve Coogan told NME.COM. "All the people play themselves in it and I play Steve Coogan, this British comedian who's in New York and wants to try and break into America."

Although Coogan does not appear on screen with theThe White Stripes, he is a fan of the band and caught their live show in Berlin recently.

Beginning in 1986, Jarmusch has already shot three short films in the ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’ series. He has a long history of hiring musicians as actors, working with Waits, Pop and the late Joe Strummer, among others.

In other White Stripes news, Jack White is to produce tracks for "the best singer-songwriter of the 20th century", Loretta Lynn.

The collaboration comes following Lynn’s performance at a recent White Stripes concert in New York, where he joined her onstage for two of her hits. The band's 2001 LP 'White Blood Cells' is also dedicated to her.

"I wanted to cry when I heard these (new) songs," he said. "She's still writing amazing songs." He added that the album "will be getting away from this horrible production of modern country music that I can't stand and getting down to something raw like she really is".

"We really hit it off," he continued. "There's some kind of connection with us. I feel really comfortable with her, and I think she feels really comfortable with me, which I'm really glad for, because I could see someone like me - the way I look or whatever - not being appealing or her thinking that maybe I wasn't down with the kind of music she does. She could tell that we had the same love for the same things about music."

Factory Girl Wow, thanks FM for the update. I wish JW a speedy recovery. Also, I did not know that JW was dating Reneee Zellwiger. What an odd choice.

(SS, when are you seeing WS in Philly?)

Joey " Also, I did not know that JW was dating Reneee Zellwiger. What an odd choice. "

She's from Texas you know ...........................

Beef Jacky !

Factory Girl Yes, Joey, I know RZ is from Texas. I just thought JW would date someone much more interesting and cooky-like Angie Jolie.

But, it appears JW is attracted to blandness. The old standard "Opposites attract", if you will.

Believe it or not, you are not the first person to tell me that. The first part anyway. Actually, I hear it quite often.

Thanks!

beer "White suffered a compound fracture to his left index finger." NME

He aint gonna be playin guitar for awhile. Isn't a compound fracture when the bone comes out of the skin? Geez, it could be months before he could play again.

Jonny, you and I are sleeping with the SAME person then !! When I am asleep with that person, they are fucking fantastic !! Hows about yous ? Seriously, you have a surprise that will be in your life ANY day now. Post about it when it happends !! :-)

prism, for the record, (since you didn't seem to know) the whole, "Jack and Meg being brother and sister" thing has ALWAYS been a gimmick. They were married. Not only that but "Jack" is not even his real first name, nor is "White" his real last name. (It IS Meg's real last name though)

I've been listening to White Stripe bootlegs all week. Great Stuff.

Now I Gotta Bail.

Sir Stonesalot I'm telling you all right now...Jack will play on the 25th.

And I DO NOT want to hear anything different from the peanut gallery.

I have tickets and the show will HAPPEN. Even if I have to fly a voodoo preistess in from New Orleans to heal his finger with black magic.

Well, ok ... I hope the report of a compound fracture was inaccurate. Maybe he just didn't wanna play that festival this weekend.

What section are we in? Close enough to throw my panties at Meg?
07-12-03 11:00 AM
Sir Stonesalot It's a GA show. We'll get as close as my menacing scowl, bald head, and burgeoning bulk can get us.

Jesus...it sounds like I knocked myself up! I'll let you know how many toes the blessed event has.

>I've been listening to White Stripe bootlegs all week.

I really like their version of "Love Sick", and their Capt. Beefheart covers... (SS, you have some songs mis-labeled on that 'rarities' comp - "The Ace of Love" is actually "Party of Special Things To Do", and "A Case of the Punks" is actually "Ashtray Heart".)

White Stripes Jack White In Car Crash

Jack White of White Stripes has been injured in a car accident in his hometown Detroit, fracturing his finger and leading to the cancellation of their upcoming gigs.

White is suffering from a compound fracture on his left index finger which means the acts headlining slot on both T In The Park in Scotland and Wittness in Ireland have been cancelled.

As a result of White Stripes absence The Flaming Lips have been upgraded at both gigs.

White Stripes were due to start a major US tour on July 19. Jack looks like being out of action for a least a month. An announcement on the outcome of the tour is yet to be made.

07-12-03 02:52 PM
mac_daddy I have to say - I dig live Stripes much more than studio Stripes, and I am really looking forward to these shows...

september 22 and 23 is a long way away...

plus, these are VERY important gigs to the band. they are sponsored by what was once the truly alternative radio staion of my youth - KROQ. I don't know when kroq went from local alt station that kicked ass (when rodney was on at a decent hour, and received the respect he deserves) to national/conglomerate mainstream taste-maker and trend-setter (I guess this was right around the time mtv went alternative by starting 120 minutes, which was basically a recap of the week's playlist at KROQ), but it happened. And while I dis' kroq for all of their mainstream BS, they are still the most important radio station in the country (with KCRW coming in a close second), and these two shows at the Greek, that the station is humping, are of monumental importance to the band - esp. if they cancel some dates between then and now...

Sir Stonesalot >You know cause a Silver Pressing is not a Bootleg...<

You must be retarded...AND drunk.

A bootleg is a commercially available silver CD pressing.

You didn't get that whole entire thread a month ago, did you. It went right over your tiny little brain.

Even as drunk as I am right now, my IQ is at least 100 points higher than yours. This is assuming, of course, that you even have a measurable IQ. I don't know if retards have measurable IQs.

CF!

The postman, who always rings twice, left a bundle of joy on my doorstep. And the bundle DID make me smile a lot.
"Eleanor" (by the Turtles) set to the tune of "London Calling" proved immediately that nothing IS sacred and so what? I loved the whole thing.

(For those of you not in me and CF's immediate family, he sent me a disc by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. It is fucking hilarious - hardcore covers of songs they hate, or that you'd never expect to hear played 100 mph. Highlights are the above mentioned "Eleanor", "Stand By Your Man", and "Tomorrow".)

You know my favorite line in the lyrics to "Eleanor" (either version)?

"Et Cetera".

THAT is brilliant.

Haven't listened to the Sex Presleys yet but will today. Stones in Boston played perfectly on my Mac - the last VCD I tried wouldn't play.

THANKS to my BROTHER/NEPHEW/EX-WIFE, Cardinal Fang!
