23K unsold tickets the day before a show further demonstrates the lack of demand for the product being presented. This would not be the case in the "good'ol days".
50,000 tickets sold (as of a few days ago) in a country where the total population is 670,000 and which has little history of western rock music...and where the show takes place not in a city but in a beach resort
Per head of population, its one of the most in-demand shows of the entire tour.
Some 'lack of demand' there..... |

From what I read on IORR, the phones over there stopped working - guess they're not used to obsessive Stones fans making calls, texting setlists and sending photos via cellphone, all at the same time.
On a different note, I finally got my Biggest Bang DVD today. "This Place Is Empty" is a killer. |

Montenegro - And the bang happened
10 Jul 2007 07:13 +0100
Jaz – Ten minutes to ten a big bang from the stage marked the beginning of a spectacle, which has never been seen in these areas. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronny Wood, and Charlie Watts started a two-hour concert which was followed through as in a trance by several tens of thousands of visitors.
Fantastic performance of the charismatic Jagger was complemented by the characteristic rock & roll posing of Wood and Richards, energetic Watts’ drumming and a group of 10 accompanying musicians and vocals.
Front man of the Stones during the concert has shown, except the condition on which majority of teenagers would envy him, talent for foreign languages. Except the standard “Good evening Montenegro” he said many other sentences in our language (“We are glad to be the first band playing in this area”, “All of you from Croatia, Serbia, Albania and Russia welcome here”, “We are glad because we are here, fantastic audience”). As the organizers were announcing the Stones have played a repertoire made mostly of the greatest hits.
In the middle of the concert, after Richards has also shown his voice capabilities by singing two songs, Jagger came back on stage in other robe and the band started their traveling towards the additional stage which is 60 meters of length among the audience where they played three songs of which one was “I Can’t Get No”. During their travel a giant language was protracted in the audience from the stage.
While the band rode with the bridge, which was taking them to the additional stage, on the sides of the glass desk around the drummer one could see the list of the songs for the concert.
Last song in the official part of the concert was “Jumping Jack Flash”, and then after the expected applause there followed an encore during which the Stones treated those present with the hit “Brown Sugar”. Screams of the audience and shouting didn’t manage to bring once again the legendary band back on the stage so the spectacle after two hours was finished with great fireworks.
During those two hours those on Jaz could see that Stones are really a concert attraction No1 and that they are seeing amazing pyrotechnical light and sound effects, which have never been seen in these areas.
When the lights went out a bit after midnight stream of people went to a long journey towards their homes, and the stones “rolled” towards Barcelona where they will play on a private party before they go for Belgrade.
Spectacular music event has overshadowed by the number of visitors all previous events in Montenegro, including political gatherings, which so far held the record, and has opened the way to Budva for other music stars.
Traffic jam started already around 6 p.m. when majority of visitors started going towards Jaz. Police officers stopped and returned all the vehicles, which went down the highway, except special vehicles such as – E.R. cars, police cars, vehicles of the production team etc. Owners of the tickets of lower categories were squeezed in too crowded buses, and for the transport probably the most expensive one in the region, from Budva to Jaz one was supposed to give 1, 50 euros.
Starting point in front of Slovenska plaza were not visibly marked and great number of people were pushing in order to get in the bus. Many went on foot towards Jaz. Under the afternoon July sun, visitors started arriving in bigger numbers on Jaz an hour and a half before the beginning of the concert. First control point was passed pretty fast – in a few minutes, and the river of people of all generations) from children to pensioners of various nations) went towards the concert area in which one could feel the aroma of alcohol.
On the sea across the beach Jaz one could see many yachts, and also the coast guard, which was moving through that area not allowing anyone to dock in. Gorgeous sailboat of the Army of Montenegro “Jadran” dominated the bay. Goran Bregovic famous musician was on one of the luxurious boats. Many decided to see the concert from the highway above Jaz. On the impressive stahe, which travels around the world with the Stones, first one to go on it was Dado Topic with his band Time. Excited because of the act that he is a part of a spectacle Dado sang several songs including formerly most popular one “Maceodnia”. The song “Do you know that I love you”’ he sand in a new version which he dedicated to the Rolling Stones and when he wanted to sing the final song the sound system was shut down because fore groups could sing only for half an hour.
- This is the most beautiful day in my life of a musician and I have never attended a bigger and a more beautiful event – said Topic for Vijesti after the concert.
After him played Regina from 7:15 p.m. which was mildly greeted by the audience in difference to Dado Topic, and many people wandered what are they doing on a spectacle like this. Ten minutes after 8 p.m. the anonyms British band the Thirst came out on the stage. Another ause followed before the start of the concert of the Stones during which the visitors were calling for the dinosaurs to come out on the stage.
I.Novakovic – V. Lajovic
POLITICANS WERE DANCING IN VIP BOX
Among the famous persons in too crowded VIP box among others Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic, vice president of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapic, vice president of DPS Svetozar Marovic, who met stones in the backstage before the concert, Montenergin sportsmen and businessmen were dancing, and Serbian singer of folk songs Era Ojdanic was also in the VIP box. About 3.000 guards last noght had a difficult task to have the organization of the concert go by in the best possible way, and policemen were divided on all “hot” spots on Jaz.
It was confirmed by the police to Vijesti that there was not a single incident during the concert and Budva service for protection and rescue also didn’t have any major intervention.
According to the words of the major of the Service Zdravko Sljukic 78 firefighters from all over Montenegro were engaged for the concert.
- We didn’t have a single intervention, and everything was under control. These concerts are gatherings of “high risk” so we had help from our colleagues from Kotor, Tivat, Bar, Niksic, as well as from our unit in Petrovac - said Sljukic. For traffic police officers main work began around midnight, after the concert was over.
Young guy’s appetite
That the world stars are indeed spoiled and that they like to be pleased all the time was confirmed by the members of the Rolling Stones during their first day of staying in luxurious president suite of the hotel Splendid.
Extravagant, old time rockers tried to hassle the personnel of the hotel Splendid but thanks to the fact that they were well informed everything was ready for the demands of tock veterans.
If it is to judge by the dinner which they ordered the first night when they came Jagger and his friends have a great appetite even though they are in their seventh decade.
Vijesti found out that Jagger when he came into the president’s suite took a camera to shoot every detail, and then he ordered dinner. He drank expensive French wine “Pulingni montrache” and he was drinking our water “Aqua monta”. For the main course he took fish with vegetables, and prior to that a soup made of gherkins and mint, and at the end he took chocolate desert. Jagger was especially thrilled by the fact that without him asking for that he be served with his favorite “Starbucks” coffee, Hagen dazes ice cream and cranberry juice which the management of the hotel specially ordered from America.
Jagger’s colleague from the group Ronny Wood decided to take Montenegrin wine “Krstac” and during the dinner he felt comfortable with “next” juices and mineral water “Knjaz Milos”. He had beef fillet, tartar made of tuna, lobster salad and mozzarella, as well as soup made of gherkins and mint, and as a dessert he took ice nougat.
As we found out the leader of the Stones after the arrival in the hotel asked the butler when Splendid was constructed and he replied in humor that Splendid was made especially because of his arrival, with which Jagger was thrilled.

say what you want pug but this strikes me as one of the most interesting shows the band has done in ages simlpy due to it's location-
the goats in the header are a nice touch
and of course it shows you how much has changed over the years - when it came to rock and roll communism never stood a chance |

They shut down the sound system?!?!? Jeez... Talk about divas, it was only one song...
Wonder if anyone recorded the whole gig... I know, thin chance, but still. |

hmmm...so RONNIE was drinking "Krstac" wine...does anyone know what type of wine that is? Seems odd because he was on the wagon I thought...

Aw, c'mon... As I said on IORR... It's not like it's Zimbabwe. It's Europe, Adriatic coast, it's on the beach. And Italy is just across the 'canal'. Perhaps what's amusing is that Montenegro is relativly new country, last one of the former Yugoslav republic to gain independece... And also the fact that it's very small...
But the location of the country itelf it's not that mesmerasing :-D |

well that's why i said intereresting - NOT mesmerizing or amusing (do i detect a cultural chip on the shoulder with that one??) - please, don't put words in my mouth , it pisses me off something shocking
and it is interesting for the very reason you state as well as the fact (correct me if i am wrong) the band has not been there before
This German bank gig is also "interesting" in its own way too - probably for all the wrong reasons - but interesting nonetheless
so chill out man |
