McCartney Conjures 'Chaos' On 20th Solo Album
By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Paul McCartney returns to the one-man-band approach that marked his 1970 self-titled solo debut on "Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard," his 20th solo album since the dissolution of the Beatles. Due Sept. 13 via Capitol, the 13-track set was co-produced by McCartney with Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck) and is the artist's first new studio album since 2001's "Driving Rain."
"I did not want to rush this album," says McCartney, who played everything from guitar, bass and drums to flugelhorn and harmonium on the project. "I think it was worth the wait though. The music became more interesting over time and I'm really proud of what we did."
The album runs the gamut from piano-led tracks like "Promise To You Girl" and "Fine Line," to a self-described "daughter of [the Beatles'] 'Blackbird'" dubbed "Jenny Wren" to the contemplative "Riding to Vanity Fair" and "At the Mercy."
"We really made a lot of it up as we went along," McCartney says. "I'd try something and if it didn't work I'd try something else until it did. It was like making a go-cart in the backyard."
"Chaos and Creation" will be supported with a previously announced fall North American tour, which begins Sept. 16 in Miami.
Here is the track list for "Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard":
"Fine Line"
"How Kind of You"
"Jenny Wren"
"At the Mercy"
"Friends To Go"
"English Tea"
"Too Much Rain"
"A Certain Softness"
"Riding to Vanity Fair"
"Follow Me"
"Promise To You Girl"
"This Never Happened Before"
"Anyway"

Be careful. Lots Macca fans around here. It's just that the anti-macca crowd is more vocal...right? |

I actually have a couple of Macca CD's but let's face it: he's dull these days. And his diva ways make me angry. |

Song titles seem more interesting than the leaked ones for the new Stones Album...which isn't saying much. |

I'm sure they will be smart enuf to release it in a down week so it hits #1..unlike the dumb shit management of the Stones. |

Since he seems reticent to own up, it's a song by Van Morrison from his brilliant 1972 album "St. Dominic's Preview".
Van is the MAN, by the way, and his new album seems to be just as good as the last two - GREAT, that is.
Van is the most soulful white guy EVER. |

Recently Macca have been showed much better shape than Stones like in Driving Rain, a great album, imho.

i'm glad to see this, even though I doubt I'll have any interest in the album when it comes out. I have to give credit to McCartney for waiting to announce the album til 2 months before he's ready to release, unlike the Stones who have been creating buzz for an album that hasn't existed in the year and a half they've susposed to have been working on it (even if its only the type of buzz that us fans will pick up on) -- and Macca's will most likely be the one that comes out first
whatever - the Stones album is the one I'm looking forward to |

i love macca....love stones, obviously, too. i think we're all lucky they are both still on the scene and active all these years later. who'd have believed 40 years ago that we'd even be discussing a stones and "beatles" tour/albums in the year 2005. unbelievable. |

I have many of his CD's from throughout his career but I do NOT own this one. Thanks for the info. |

YAWN.
The song titles alone are enough to put me to sleep. They look really gay.

Oh, that's a good one. It's got "Jackie Wilson Says" on it. I love that song.
Do you have the last three? A major return to form, imho. Wish the boys could crank 'em out as effortlessly as Van. |

I love Van! Love him!
Jimmy Fallon does a pretty damn good impersonation of Van. |

I have the last two before the latest one. I know he has a new one but I haven't gotten it just yet. I only saw him once (Guinness Fleagh 1996 or so, NYC) and he wasn't all that great but I've always loved his music.
Nope, never saw Jimmy Fallon do him. |

Well, no competition at all on Sep. 6, strange, actually no albums out that week (reserved?). I'm sure that the Stones will hit #1 in that week, but if they release the album on Aug. 31, Sep. 13 or Sep. 20, no chance for a #1 due the high profile albums during that dates. |

Then September 6th it should be... |
