I can't believe the set lists, from what I've seen, have been damn near indentical to the U.S. leg of the tour.
Due to the amount of songs rehersed and the talk of themed sections of show, I thought we would see much much more.
I mean, the themed sections themselves have been limited to just a few albums. Where is the Aftermath theme or It's Only Rock and Roll Theme? Dirty Work? Voodoo Lounge? Have they done a Goats Head Soup? Actually they may have done on of those, not sure. Can someone tell me what albums have been showcased? It hasn't been many compared to the number of albums to choose from.
I really hope the U.K. is in for some changes.

Yep, only UK is worthy of radical set list changes. The rest of the world is not worthy. rotfl... |

the themes are for the arena shows - only one so far in Europe to date, I believe.
In the US, the themes were drawn from SF, LIB, EOMS exclusively, with two exceptions: 1 from TY and 1 from SG. |

Well no, my point was that it seems it's too late for that in the other locations. It's been same old same old.
I was only thinking that perhaps they have something to surprise the U.K. with.
It's their home town afterall. |

Lol, Maxy, I was being cynical. I just don't see them drudging out any "new" tuneage this late in the tour.

I don't know.
Look at the Shepherds Bush show last tour. They pulled out Melody, Moon Is Up, Brand New Car and I Got the Blues.
I see more of these types of shows for the Brits.

Yes, but that was a club show. Also, was Shepherd's Bush early in the tour?
Are you and Joey going to England?? |
|
|
| Maxlugar |
Shepherd Bush was next to the last show of the tour. I think they ended with the Wembley shows. Gazza probably knows more on that. Remember that was when they skipped England and went back at the end due to tax reasons.
I love them.

Wasup???
I love the Bush show. The war horses were a little choppy but the rarities were great. Moon is Up was a triumph of galactic proportionalities!
I would have loved to have been there.
Got it on video and CD. Can I see you on the Video?

musically, the wheels were coming of the wagon by the end of the NS tour. I agree that SB was a pretty shoddy performance...the Wembley shows were even worse. |

I agree that the setlists need a real shake up! Have they not evan done a Beggars Banquet theme yet?
Me and stewed & Keefed were raving about that album in the pub last night!

They did a few Beggars themes here in the states, and i was lucky enough to see the only times they did Tattoo and Some Girls, although Worried about you should have been in their tattoo set instead of start me up. |

the stones really need to wake up and see that there is a high demand for lesser known songs. They have done some of those (She Smiled Sweetly, Worried About You, Can't You Hear Me Knocking), but they need to do more. They need to kick out some of the hits |

My complaint these days isn't necessarily about set lists; it's show length. They were playing two-and-a-half hour sets in '89-90, and I don't see why they can't still do that today, especially since their schedule in any given week is pretty light.
I can understand not wanting to push so hard at their age. Three or four shows a week is a good, sensible pace. But why not play for that extra half-hour? Really, how much more onerous would that be?
With that extra little slice of set-time, they'd be able to sneak in more obscure songs without sacrificing the warhorses. That, to me, is the real issue: Why not satisfy both the casual and the hard-core fan -- even in a stadium setting -- by playing a few more songs each night?

yeah...15 song 'hot rocks' setlists!!!

It's kind of ironic that on a tour that began with the most adventurous setlists in the band's career, the Stones would lazily settle into the most insipid setlists in history.
Here's hoping they're recharged after a weeklong holiday and with a theater show in Paris looming. |

Hey Rik!
You may be right. With the talk of the Paris shows being DVD and live album material, you may be getting some good licks.
Hey, maybe you'll find a chick and she'll blow ya, too! |

After Wembley they played 3 more shows:
Santiago de Compostela/Spain, Landgraag/Holland and the final in Cologne/Germany (a very wet, but damn good show!!!).
Shepherds was indeed not very good musically Marko. But it was awesome to be there and see everything.

Yeh, but now Mick hasn't fallen victim to all kinds of illnesses. He did last tour. That was hell, reschedule, cancel etc. You never knew if the show was going to happen. I just hope they have more dry shows this summer and everything will be ok.
5 more days to Bercy/Paris, whooohoooo!!! |

every tour since the 90-ies is the same, it starts good, with special songs and ends with good songs but nothing special

I don't think extending the show to 2.5 hours is necessary, or even desireable. You say you don't think the extra 30 minutes would be very taxing? Are you 60? I don't think you can know unless you are. I realize MJ is in great shape - but the same cannot be said of the others - their bodies are at least 60 years old (probably older). I'm glad they are being cautious; the risk is too great to take chances.
I am in agreement that the setlists need an injection of intrigue. The stadium warhorse show I can understand to an extent - the real drama needs to play out in the arenas and theaters, of which there haven't been many recently. We'll know more shortly... |
