But seriously, when we talk about rights, I cannot speak for polygamists and such. I can say this,
the prejudices are ingrained and hard to deal with at times. It is easy to sit at the top of the food chain and say someone beneath you has no real reason to complain. But consider this, IF when I was with a woman I put a picture on my desk at work of her and her children, I was a family man. If when I am with a man I put a pic of him and I and our dogs on the desk, I am shoving a life style down people's throats.

I had a long term same sex partner. We had a business and a home together. One day he got really sick and we went to the Emergency Room. His blood realtives lived on another continent. The nurses, doing their job , at first could not allow me in the room with him EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW US AND I WORKED AT THAT HOSPITAL, BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW as well as hopsital policy! Federal HIPA law that is in the United States. Even when the patient desires company in some places hospital policy will prohibit NON FAMILY memebers from entering certain places. Now we worked around things very quickly, my partner merely immediately listed me as his primary MD and I was in. Some will not be that lucky.

We were never allowed joint tax returns, but my ex wife is able to bitch at me about finances that occurred 10 years ago. Even the language grants women the right to be called MRS, immediately pointing out to the rest of the world marital status and all the rights, and customary privleges that go with that status. Meanwhile I could not insure my partner of years with my health care policy.

It is a long litany. I really do not care if the states or the feds of any given country call it marriage, or domestic partnerships, or call it legalized sodomy. But the problem is that by some figures 600,000,000 people world wide are being denied rights that most take for granted , including the right to just be considered normal and healthy!

Good post! Do you consider yourself bisexual?

kahoosier Glencar, I consider myself a human being, and before you consider that a cop out, let me go a little further.

I belive in love, I believe in monogamy no matter what accusations are levelled at any subgroup in the human race as being outlandishy promiscuous. I always find it curious that such quoted studies do not reflect the people I know.

So when I am in love with a woman I am heterosexual.

When I am in love with a man I am homosexual.

IT is those in-between times that I get labeled BI.

I would not choose to be a one legged black Jewish man in Southern Alabama, I have not chosen to be part of a group that is hated. I wave no flags. I march in no parades. As I am not ashamed of my sexuality, nor am I proud. It just is...its just who I am.

I am proud that I am a Doctor, I worked for that. I am proud that I quit smoking and drugs, that is an acheivement. I am proud to believe that there is a God, that is a concious act of acceptance. The rest that is being argued here? I just can't be bothered.

Though for the people that don't get it, let me give you a demo of how ridiculous it can all get. When Oliver Stone's movie Alexander the Great came out, a group of lawyers in Greece tried to stop it because it hinted at what most historians no longer question, Alexander's long standing relationship with Hephastion. Now I have no idea why in the world anyone worries about who a stranger sleeps with, BUT HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU GET WORKED UP ABOUT WHO A STRANGER THAT HAS BEEN DEAD 2300 YEARS SLEPT WITH is just prejudice I cannot understand.

Zambero According to rocker:

"Im just making the point that just because something may have a genetic componenent doesnt make it an acceptable reason for justification."

One doesn't need to justify the earth's gravitational pull either, or any other natural force for that matter. In that context homosexuality doesn't need to be either justified or condemnded. It's a natural variant that has always existed in human populations in all races and cultures. Whether one arbitrarily puts a "good" or "bad" label on it doesn't mean a whole lot, although one certainly might question the motivation of those who go out of their way to deride or persecute gay people. I put a "neutral" label on it. There's a lengthy list of personal attributes that people will choose to judge others with. Fine, but sexual orientation should not even come close to making the list, no more than race or gender should be.

Actually I gave five reasons why homosexual relationships can be unhealthy in my second previous long post. Go back and read it again. There are five reasons i put up about it being unhealthy.

When heterosexual relationships are completely perfect and healthy, then one can throw stones at homosexual relationships. I know you are pointing to certain perceived aspects of gay relationships that you think are unhealthy but just as not every straight relationship fits your defined norm, neither do all gay relationships fit your defined abnorm! Meaning: you make mention of gay relationships that are open to sex with multiple partners. Uh, not all of them are sexually open... just like not all straight couples are "swingers".

jesus was not as wimply, tolerant, and non-judgmental as you think. The church is no different than any other organization, we too have to make judgements on many things in order to be faithful. Come on dude, even when you quote Jesus on "not judging" youve ignored the wider context of the passage. Dont pretend to be a Christian thelogian when you are not one.

I know you were talking to someone else but I'd love to jump in here. My birthright religion was Christian but my chosen religion is Judasim. Specifically Reform Judaism.

Most opposed to homosexuality point to Leviticus 18:22 as justification for their opposition and prejudices. I find linguistics and differences in translations fascinating. I also find the study of the original Hebrew texts fascinating as well, although I do admit that my Hebrew study is remiss. I found an interesting website on the various translations of this verse and others that you might want to browse for interest. I will just copy/paste one section I found particularly interesting:

"At the beginning of the chapter that includes this passage, Leviticus 18:3 states: "After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances." Here, God is saying that the Hebrews are not to follow the practices of the Egyptians or of the Canaanites. Homosexual ritual sex in temples of both countries was common. Thus, one might assume that Leviticus 18:22 relates to temple same-sex rituals -- something that was ritually impure."
