I am hearing it is almost certain the boys will return to the states in the late fall. If this is to be so, I wonder if there is to be any kind of release to coincide. I wonder if this will be nothing more than a continuation of The A Bigger Bang tour or if they will possibly put something out such as....I don't know? A live CD or something? Maybe a new single to boot. A new studio release has got to be completely out of the question being as of them touring. But we did get stripped in 95 after Voodoo. After BTB we got No Security.
Wonder if they have anything planned or the possibilities of such?

I know. I wonder if they will include a new single with it or something. I do not even know if I am ready for anything new studio wise. I am still kickin it with A Bigger Bang. I know it seems silly but I don't want to become over-saturated.....even with The Stones. After all we just got a total of 18 tunes from them. A Bigger Bang still is occupying my attention and something eles may be making a mistake Aerosmith did (among other things) in the mid nineties
by over saturating us. I mean, I'm still chompin on ABB and the two newbies on the DVD now and again. Who knows, maybe by then I will be ready for something updated or new.

A DVD or live album, maybe a new Rarities too.
A great idea could be a BIG re-promotion of ABB with a new single (payola on radio included) and discounts on the big stores, at least to move another 100k of the album in the states, but of course they don't give a shit about that. |

I hope they've taped (and will release) another Four Flicks-style DVD package after this tour because this current tour has had much more energy, effort, soundmen (guitars have been LOUDER!!!), decent setlists etc... Maybe one of the DVD's in the box will be Rio and the Fenway Park opener... Just wishful thinking.

the current tour has had better setlists than the Licks one? Are you serious?
forget about a Four Flicks style release. That concept worked because the Stones played three different types of setlists in three different types of venues
This tour its the same type of setlist regardless of the size of the venue
I dont think the improvement in the sound is relevant. It doesnt translate to a better DVD release, because they can do so much post-production work to improve any shortcomings anyway. It didnt do Four Flicks any harm. Forget Fenway as a DVD release. No way will the Stones use an opening night show for an official release. It would be one of the shows that were filmed for broadcast. Rio seemed to be earmarked for official release, but it seems to have fallen off the radar, and by now they've probably missed the boat on it.
If they put out a live album from this tour, I think I'll spontaneously combust. They're kind of in-limbo anyway because they dont have a recording deal and I would imagine any release that Virgin put out would be an 'option'. The fact that the new single contains as bonus tracks live songs from 2003 (Live Licks outtakes!) would indicate that either Virgin dont have the rights to put out any unreleased material recorded after the band's contract expired last year - or that they're saving such 'delights' for a live CD.
Knowing Virgin, they'll probably stick something out akin to a "Rarities Vol. 2", which will again contain lots of songs from multi million-selling albums. they'll probably put 'Sway' on it, after all Jagger has already introduced ot on this tour as an "obscurity"

I agree with the Lion. No more live albums. We have been flooded with very mediocre live-albums since Love You Live. All of little value. |

not to mention "little sales"..
I'll give them some credit for 'Stripped' however. At least that had a different concept than usual, and it sold very well (3.5 million!) |

That may be the exception although Stripped is not consistent all along the line. But to be honest I never play their official live albums since LYL. I even haven't bought Live Licks: the very first Stones album I haven't bought since 1973! |

The sets on the current tour have been crap. They are a corporation now. Really sad. It is like a Vegas style show. They should think about ending it now. Gilmour was right....... |

I know they won't put out another "Four Flicks-style" DVD, I agree.
What I really meant was that I was hoping for some type, any official concert release, to own and therefore remind me of the this tour as a whole. They've played better this tour despite a set list alot less vast as the Licks Tour but I like how there was a new album incorporated.
At the three shows I've seen this tour, except one this past Feb. in Boston (because Ronnie was "sick" and therefore sucked, so Jagger wraps a cloak around Ron between songs while telling us, almost with a subtle apologetic nervous Jagger-ism, that Ronnie had some sort of a sickness or a bug'. All three shows kicked ass.
Charlie was playing better this year than I've ever felt at a stones show. I figure that his throat cancer scare influenced the band to really get their act together as pals and knowing every show is getting closer to the end. I could feel their glory of wanting to out with a bang. (No pun intended!)
A DVD of one of ABB shows would be better for me, at least, because of their better playing, tone settings, on this tour than on Flicks. THAT makes a big difference in how many good-sounding tone options there can be for the audio producers to work with.
As Keith has mentioned more than once that the sound man he has now is the best in years. In pre and in post production of a major concert DVD's, the initial sound man who'd mixed live at the show features the best in guitar overall outcome.
This one who Keith mentions keeps the background singers lower, keyboard, horns & etc...
--NO MORE LIVE ALBUMS!
Live Licks was hacked and doctored. Ya-Ya's or LOVE YOU LIVE was the last official 'raw' release they put out excepting STILL LIFE, which was worked on with a lot of effort in the in-studio production.

Coming this Fall: 55 Licks, which will contain previously released material (of course) plus two new songs Keith wrote while in the hospital. |

I think we'll almost certainly get a DVD at some point, Craig - as is the norm for each tour. Which is only but right. Live albums - in the age of DVDs - are so '70's and passe. Youre right about the sound being so much better this tour - long overdue as previously it was often pretty disgraceful for a band of the Stones' status and for the amount of money it costs to see them.

With the probable exception of 'Stripped' every Stones live album has featured extensive overdubbing and editing. With 'Love You Live', the cosmetic work is so extensive its not funny - amazingly, Jagger's singing still manages to be amongst his worst ever.
See here for an article (from a 1985 fan magazine) about the work that was done on Love You Live and Still Life :

"Dear fan,
You have purchased tickets for a Rolling Stones show, and we thank you for that! Unfortunately, you have probably heard through the media that the show has been cancelled. In light of this unfortunate situation, we decided that a refund was just not good enough.
Thus, we are happy to announce that, as a compensation, you will receive an exclusive "Stones Europe tour 2006" CD! It will consist of LIVE material recorded by the Stones during past tours in ALL the cities where 2006 shows were cancelled. And leave it to us to offer dedicated fans like yourself a collector gift: a limited-edition, 100%-cherry-wood frame, so you can display your tickets above your fireplace, in your office or wherever you like.
Hoping to count you among our clients for the next tours,
The Virtual Ticket staff
P.S. In the unlikely event that you prefer to get a refund instead of our SPECIAL FAN offer, we suggest you contact a lawyer." |

Very interesting. Never knew there was so much studio trickery on these albums.
His conclusion seems to be right on target:
"Amount of work for Jagger/Richards for a live LP (selection, cutting, overdubbing and mixing the material) must be at least comparable with the work on a studio LP."

Same here.I used to listen to "Still Life" a lot before discovering the sdb jewels from the US tour 81.
"Stripped" is IMHO a brilliant one becuz he's very different and sounding very warm.
then "No Security" was to me the real sign of decline, with lame versions of lame songs (you got me rockin) but a few exceptions (Out of Control).
Live Licks? NO interest.
Jagger said they didn t took the time to hear all the recorded versions, we really trust you Mick!
So, another live record would definitely sink the band into a creativity desert, which is a very sad way to (eventually, probably??)say goodbye.

The stadium shows of the last 12 years were very similar!
They should really think about a new live-concept!
Perhaps a stage like the superbowl one?!
Or why not playing a whole album in every show?
Let's be more experimental: Let's play more Blues,
do improvisations!
Take a new line up! Only keep Bobby Keys!
And then: Pleeeeaaaase record that pure Blues album, I'm
waiting for such a long time!
Create concepts for absolutely fantastic new albums:
Invite some guests! Some hot musicians of our times as guests for 1-2 Songs!
Why not jamming with Jack White, Patti Smith, The Edge or great Jazz solists! (Many more are possible and interesting)
Time is running out!
Please do not the same old live show again and again and again!
In fact only the 3-4 Songs "surprise-songs" are really interesting in every show. They did fantastic versions of
"Sway, As tears go by, Worried about you ..."
But that's not enough to keep the Band fresh!
I loved the Club-Shows at the "licks-tour" and "Stripped"!
That was fresh!! This stadium tour seems a little bit like
"the same procedure as every year" to me!
A live-album from that show?
Who needs the 26th version of JJF, Miss you, Satisfaction, Brown Sugar...?
Perhaps we get an Live dvd from the "radio city hall" show
And Bonus tracks: "Sway, As tears go by, Worried about you ..." |

You are my man (or woman) but I doubt it will ever happens. But I am 100% with you. If Jagger, Richards, Wood and Watts still have some taste they will change the concept but I am afraid they are part and victim of very big business where music is a means to an end. |

NO more albums period..they are great disappointment s and in some cases, really embarrassing. When I heard SOL I realized theey were, for all practical purposes, washed up as a recording act.
