It's the extras which do it for me.
Ronnie shines more than FF, from what
I've caught to date.
Keith is Keith.

I got a laugh out of Mick hiding on his balcony in Rio trying to see how many people were showing up and his concern for low attendance. Also got a kick out of Keith and ROnnie talking about how they were fucking with the people in Argentina waiting outside their hotel by sticking the hand out the window just to get a reaction.

Me too. I've watched all the extras and have yet to make it thru any of the concert footage. What goes on behind the RS machine is far more interesting then the actual concerts.

IMO the Austin show is completely unnecassary. We've seen this same show a gazillion times now over the last 3 decades. The only thing different is the band's sadly fading power. "Bob Wills is Still the King" is getting good reviews here, and IMO is the most interesting thing they've done in a long time. But I'm a big Waylon fan and to me its not a good cover. Too fast and sounds hurried and Mick gets the lyrics wrong a couple of times, nothing like the great country-rock they've done in the past. but more importatnly, are they diggin' Texas country or mocking it?

In my opinion this could have been a single DVD of Rio with a bonus DVD of extras and some Argentina footage. But I suppose the largest part of their income comes from N. America, and releasing a DVD of only "overseas" concerts makes them look bad to norte-americanos. i.e. They had to go some place they've been before to find an enthusiatic audience.

As a former hardcore fan it is hard to watch these guys out there in wig hats and makeup trying to conjure up the powers they once had on stage. Its hard to watch Charlie looking so tired and out of it and Keith having trouble fingering his guitar and Mick sounding and looking like an ageing drag queen. I'll spent some more time with the extras and than take this down to the local mom and pop music store and trade it in.

They need IMO to take a close look at the success the Grateful Dead have had releasing their Vaults. Mick Jagger has got to be a little jealous of the merchandizing power house and money making machine that the Grateful Dead have become. And they should IMO take a lesson from Ronald Reagan and go gracefully into their twilight years out of the public spot light, making special appearances only to promote their lastest vault releases - appearances similar to Jimmy Page playing on the floor of NYSE. How cool was that?

IMO.

Saint Sway UNLEASH THE VAULTS!!!!!

13th June 2007 12:29 PM
Dan I think I would have rather watched the complete Buenos Aires rain show filmed from behind the band than any of the other concert footage.
13th June 2007 12:30 PM
mrhipfl I love Ronnie's slide blues guitar during his feature.

would anyone mind uploading "She's So Cold" from Austin onto youtube?? I would do it myself but I don't know how. thanks!

Melanie,

I can't help you, but that's a pretty cool clip of you in the song. I'm sure it will be on youtube before long. She's So Cold is a highlight of Austin Disc.

Nellcote It was one part of viewing the new dvd last night, where as beat as I was from an 18 hr day, driving 100 mi to a meeting, was ready for more Stones!
Agreed on SSC from Austin, this was great.

lotsajizz the 'Austin disk' IS great

but not much of it is actually the music they played that night in Austin

they could've done the sync better on the omnipresent overdubs

There's a lot of Youtube clips of Austin, I don't think it's that touched up. If it's that touched, why didn't they overdub Keith mumbling his way through the second verse of T&A
13th June 2007 02:10 PM
MidnightRambler The second half of the show is more the overdub section. Satisfaction is so obvious. Brown Sugar also. Mick's vocals are so different. They try to cover it up by showign wide shots of Mick...not focusing too much on his mouth to make it seamless.

I must say...although T&A was a tough one for Keith...he barely pulled it off...and hearing that (obviously touched up) guitar intro..with the crowd cheering was pretty damn nice....

Mick is getting more like jb with every passing year! Was he seen to mouth "wide open" in Portuguese?

'cuz the serious overdubbing begins during the b-stage sequence and continues through the end...as I said, it started out a super show, but it seems they ran out of gas long before the end....Little T&A totters on the edge of a cliff the whole way but somehow Keith keeps it on the edge and does not wreck it!

I love the man, but he is THE weak link lately....it is not beyond the point of no return, he needs to slow the boozin' though.....

btw,

HEY JOEY!!!!!

13th June 2007 02:44 PM
MidnightRambler I don't mind that much that the 2nd half is overdub heavy. I didn't buy this set to watch Satisfaction and JJF again and again. Even if I did...I still have Rio for that.

The first half of Austin...is practically unbelievable. I don't notice any overdubbing their at all on the vocals. The guitars, can't put my finger on it...have been touched up...making it a bit more fuller and dirtier.

The set is worth it because you can always move on to another disk...
13th June 2007 02:45 PM
luxury1 so did the Midnight Rambler montage on Disc 4 give anyone else hard nips?? Christ, that got me off

Teenage girls in wet Tshirts in the rain. huba huba!

Didn't Mick say somewhere in Four Flicks that rainy shows are good shows -- or at least the rain creates a sense of community for the crowd because everybody, including the band, is getting wet together?

The best concert I ever went to was a Grateful Dead concert in the rain, way back in 1986 or 85. My older bother took me, I was just a youngster and didn't care much about the Dead. I was more into Def leppard and Quiet Riot. Embarrasing, I know. The concert changed my life, although I didn't really get into the Dead's sound till I was older.

by the by. The rolling stones in the rain where all wearing hats and trench coats. hmmmm. Worried about what might wash off or relocate in the rain? na! probably just the cold weather.

twicks1 The documentary on Disc Four is incredible. Really, really nice job, especially the Buenos Aires "rain" montage set to "Sister Morphine."

I was honestly moved several times.

I ordered mine on-line early, got a reply email last Friday that it was being shipped and I haven't seen a thing on my doorstep as of yet. Hum.......

Best Buy is staffed by nothing but young punk kids.....I bet that's where the flub-up began.

Can't wait to get my hands on this though.

Drooling like Joey on a Sunday morning...............

Some Guy I was on the southside yesterday and went to Best Buy at 9am. Those bouchedags didn't open for another hour, so I chilled. Went back and they had a table with four boxes and a nice tv and speaker set up with the dvd on. I got the show on and cranked it very loud! I may have helped move 2 units that day. Good damn time, I am happy with it!

I also hate when jagger utters anything thru the mic cutting into Ronnie while he's 'landing' a good solo.
Upside: not many obvious 'cuts' or overdubs at all on the
guitar section. Just a good mix.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this release.
I am 21 years old, I've gotten my sister, yes MY YOUNGER SISTER (big rap fan) was intrigued and glued to the screen in amazement.
Same reaction with my friends, the occasional Stones listeners. They've learned to put up with my obsession and are seeing why I am so.

Go forth and MULTIPLY my dear child (I can say that I'm months away from turning 50) lol!!!!! Keep turning your friends on. I LOVE that!

Now I am going completely mad for my not-yet-delivered preordered copy from WORST Buy!

Dammit!!!

twicks1 Was the rest of the Phoenix show this unbelievable? "Get Up Stand Up" might be the best performance on here.

Martha Checked my email.

I had ordered this last Turdsday not Friday.

Checked the tracking code.

My copy was last seen in Billings, Montana on the 11th.

It's not gonna show up here today. :-(

What's wrong with josh though?
