time is on my side |
The UFO flying overhead are rapidly
disappearing Stones tickets. In my mailbox
today, I received confirmation that
my order had, in fact, been processed.
It was a real live Stones ticket which I plan
on using this October.
Here is an updated list, with many errors no doubt,
of how the Stones ticket situation looks:
These shows have sold out:
Atlanta (arena), Charlotte (arena), Boston
(the two shows at Fenway), Washington DC (arena), Charlotteville Virginia (stadium),
Miami (arena), Calgary (arena), San Francisco (stadium- first show),
St Paul (arena) San Diego (stadium),
Anaheim (stadium), New York- Jersey (stadium),
Chicago(stadium),to my shock and utter amazement
it now seems, Hershey (stadium), is sold out,
and, most recently, Ottawa (stadium), Moncton, NB (stadium), Fresno (arena),
Houston (arena), Seattle (arena), East Hartford (stadium),
New York City (arena).
These shows are near sell outs and could sell out
at any time:
Philadelphia (arena- scattered singles at
the $450.00 price range), Tampa
(arena- limited view tickets are all that remain),
Dallas (arena- scattered single tickets at the
$400.00 price level), Chicago (all tickets expect those
in the $160.00 price range are just about gone), Portland
(scattered singles are all that's left), Glendale (MANY
TICKETS at the $350.00 price level are left however all other tickets
at the lower price ranage are just about gone)
This show has a soft market and will probably
come nowhere near selling out and may be only
half full when the Stones come to town:
Detroit (stadium)
Toronto (stadium- ticket sales have been picking
up- tickets at price levels $160.00 and $60.00 are gone-
still many tickets remain at the $450.00 and $99.00
price ranges)
San Francisco (stadium- sales for the second show
have been very slow- many tickets remain- seems Stones
management made a BIG mistake in scheduling a second
stadium show in San Fran- any scalpers who bought tickets
to the first show will be taking a bath- with the prices of tickets being this high, the STONES have to be very
careful when scheduling second shows- the Bay area simply
couldn't sustain a second show)
These arena shows are currently wide open:
Salt Lake City (arena- many tickets remain at all price ranges)
Denver (arena- the ticket situation has improved- all
that really remains are lots of $400.00 tickets- could
be getting close to being a near sell out depending on
whether or not anyone in this market will buy tickets at $400.00)
The above list was compiled from the
shows that are on sale at Ticketbastard.
It should be noted there is another show that
is not being sold through Ticketbastard:
Pittsburgh (stadium)
From what I can gather, the ticket sales at
Pittsburgh are at this time hard to judge.
So it appears STONES management has made
miscalculations at Detroit, Toronto, and
possibly Pittsburgh. With ticket prices as
high as they are,one has to be very careful
when choosing stadium sites. Overall, I think
they have done an excellent job judging by the
number of sell outs or near sell out at stadium
shows at other locations. However, Detroit, and
possibly Pittsburgh are prime examples of cities
through various reasons (most likely economic)
that simply could not sustain a stadium show.
These cities should have been given arena
shows instead.
The ultimate result for Detroit will probably
be continued poor sales and a half empty stadium
when the Stones come a calling. Of course, as we
have seen with Hershey, things can always turn
around in a hurry. Already there has been a
response that the sales at Pittsburgh
are going well.
Despite BAD NEWS in DETROIT, TORONTO, SAN FRANCISCO (second show) and
possibly Pittsburgh on the stadium shows &
SALT LAKE CITY on the arena shows, everywhere
else the news is great with the ticket buying public
eager and ready to buy Stones tickets as quickly as humanly possible. Overall,
it's been a very impressive performance considering
the price tag on these tickets (in some places as high
as $450.00 a ticket).
It'll be interesting to see what the future has
to offer.

Cohl is screwing with the numbers. Hershey had 8 together in the front third of the house (with up to 6 together in the row ahead) yesterday. Maybe it really is almost sold out or they are reducing availability in order to prepare for a 2nd Wachovia show?
I have my doubts as to whether or not Anaheim is really sold out or if tickets are just currently "not available." Build demand for the Hollywood Bowl show. Then when that show sells out (with tix up to $1000) then suddenly tix are available for Anaheim, and a bargain at $450!
There was a $453 single in C1 for one of the Fenway shows that available for over 12 hours. Somebody here has it, time to fess up!

I was as amazed at you were at the sudden and shocking turn around at Hershey. From wide open to near sell out in the matter of a day or two. Could Cohl possibly be cooking or screwing the numbers??? It's possible but not very likely.
When hot shows, such as the STONES, first go on sale what normally happens is eager fans buy as many tickets as they can possibly afford and they buy them as quickly as they can. They do this first to get good seat locations and secondly they want to insure themselves that they actually get a ticket. The net result of all this is sell outs or near sell outs after a day or two. We've already seen this happen with the STONES over and over again in many different markets.
However, not every market is the same and certain markets may have unique characteristics that relate to that particular geographic location. Hershey appears to be a case in point. Someone on another thread, who lives in the Philly area, said the sales to Hershey were tied to the Philly arena shows and many people were waiting to see what would happen.
In retrospect, Hershey, which has been on sale for less than a week, saw a spike in sales occur only AFTER the first day of the Philly arena sale. Even though there are still $450.00 single tickets still available at Philly, I noticed that pairs were gone very quickly after maybe an hour. The only thing left was a very expensive ticket, $450.00, for someone to sit alone and be by themselves. Not a very appealing prospect for many. For those looking for pairs and for those that were sitting on the sidelines to see if there would be a second Philly show, they always knew they had an alternative- HERSHEY. Thus, the dramatic increase in sales.

One thing to remember about so called "sold out" shows is that tickets have a way of suddenly reappearing when the time for the actual show is near and close at hand. This is not just true for the STONES but just about all of them. There are always exceptions but they are few and far between. So if anyone didn't get a ticket to a "sold out" STONES show don't worry my guess is that a short supply of tickets will become available again when showtime draws near.
Secondly, please don't pay scalper prices!!!! Another way and probably the best way to get tickets at face or below face value is to show up at the site the day of the show. Show up a few hours early. You'll be surprised at the number of people who are not professional scalpers and just want to unload their tickets because someone didn't show up.

Yep I am well aware of the game! I hardly ever bother with Ticketmaster anymore! I have no idea where I will be in November but if its anywhere near Anaheim and no other gigs I want to see are happening the same night, I am going to get there early and be super aggressive about it since I don't consider even $60 for upper deck anything close to a bargain. |

I think its good that there are at least 2 real soft markets.Scalpers will get burned there and some fans who got shut out in arenas should be able to get a bargain price of they can make it to Detroit or the Steel City. Both likely are soft due to the economic climate there OR people cant see paying the prices.... |

I think Pittsburgh is doing fine. The only seats available are the very back floor sections, and some seats behind home plate. I would say it's over 90% sold. Remember they are trying to get $420 for back floor seats, because they are showing a B-Stage. The $60's and $99's are long gone. |

Thanks for the information. When I pulled up the ticket site at Tickets.com, only two price levels were listed, the ones for $420.00 and $173.25. I was unaware that there were lower price levels which had already sold out. This is an excellent sign and is just more evidence that the STONES remain a very hot ticket EVERYWHERE with the possible exception of Detroit.

If you have looked at the seating chart, there are very few $60 seats. Cheapest seats are the first to go everywhere. |

I had 2 tickets offered to me on Ticketmaster's site this morning for section 8 on the floor of Giants stadium for $450 ea. No I did not buy them. No way. Maybe if they were in the first 10 rows for that money but not in the back. (so what if they are next to the B-stage)
I'd rather miss out than be without $900+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show is apparently not sold out...yet! |

Cohl is manipulating the numbers in the most cynical way possible as evidenced by the latest fan club post-sale. |

I noticed this as well. However, those tickets have now disappeared and Giant Stadium is now again "sold out". Tickets will continue to be available from Ticketbastard to most shows for a variety of reasons. Ones like these that come so soon after the public sales is more likely the result of problems with processing orders (for instance, credit cards that didn't go through because someone was over their credit limit).
Whether anyone is actually manipulating these numbers from Ticketbastard is a valid point. I'm one that doesn't ordinarily follow conspiracy theories as I believe most of them are the product of someone's overactive imagination or are based on group fears and paranoia. However, they are definitely doing their best to get as many people as possible to join the fan club and pay an extra $100.00. It does seem the fan club has more than their share of tickets to so called "sold out' shows.

I paid the $100 fan club fee on the last tour and wasn't impressed with the videos offered through out the tour. Nor was I impressed with the MSG tickets I got in section 310. Yes the show was great and I guess I should have been glad to have gotten tickets back then since I couldn't get decent seats for Giants this time around and will most likely miss the show.
It's just depressing that a band worth hundreds of millions of dollars needs to charge so much money for a show. They don't realize what goes on in the stands during the show. People bitching that they paid $1G for tickets and want you to sit down or move over...If tickets were $50 no one would really care...It's all about breaking records and raking in the cash...
That's why I say I can take 'em or leave 'em anymore...
Why pay $900 + for a pair of tickets and hope you will see a good show. It used to be guaranteed that you would but the way our favorite guitar players have been playing the last few tours...need I say more? |

By the end of the weekend, just about all of the currently announced shows on The Rolling Stones (bio | tickets | CDs - DVDs - books)' upcoming summer/fall tour of North America will have gone on the market.
Tickets for the tour's stops in Fresno, CA; Salt Lake City; Denver; Glendale, AZ; Dallas; and Houston are scheduled to go on sale to the general market Saturday (6/4), following a series of pre-sales (information about ticket pre-sales is available at the Stones' website).
Thanks to strong ticket demand in the Bay Area, promoters have added a second show, for Nov. 15, at San Francisco's SBC Park. Tickets for the new date go on sale Sunday (6/5).
This will mark the fourth straight weekend that the Stones have rolled out a large batch of tickets, and most shows have sold out quickly. Several Canadian dates sold out over the past weekend, including all 75,000 tickets for the band's Sept. 3 concert in Moncton, New Brunswick, according to Canadian news reports.
The first leg of the Stones' 2005/2006 tour opens Aug. 21 in Boston. The jaunt wraps up Dec. 1 in Houston, and about 35 shows are confirmed so far. More North American shows are in the works for early 2006.
In addition to North America, the trek is expected touch down in Mexico, South America and the Far East (possibly including the band's first-ever performances in mainland China). The outing will end in Europe during the summer of 2006.

A quick run through ebay suggests that a large portion of the tickets were purchased by scalpers who are already struggling to resell tickets at even face value for the expensive seats (fenway and a couple of other big markets excepted).

I agree which makes absolutely ZERO difference to the Stones. The only thing they or anyone from Ticketbastard care about is selling all available tickets to the open market. What happens after then is a private matter.
It's my sincere hope that all scalpers take a bath and lose money not only on all the STONES concerts but on any speculation of this sort where ultimately they are trying to rip fans off.

Wintah, my ducat searching friend...
Your post is bordering upon the fear that a certain barrister from South Florida is posting on an adjunct Stones site, expressing "shock & awe" of the lack of sold out venues. Please do not go down that path of insecurity or you may have to pay the price of forced overconsumption of grain spirits on Landsdowne St during a certain period of dates in late August of this year...YOU have been warned... |

The Houston presale has been ongoing since yesterday. I have been pulling up the same seats all day. That is not a good sign. |

Absolutely agree. I think the scalpers are going to take a bath on this one. The $450+ per ticket makes it a tough scalp, particularly for a stadium show. First, it's expensive - e.g., for a couple to go the show, you're talking close to a grand. And at a stadium show, even you are close to the stage, your not the close. Lastly, people are more reluctant to do $1000 transactions with someone they don't know over the internet.
peace out,

I think a lot of people will take a bath or at least pass on this one. It took the "Worlds Greatest Rock and Roll Band" over a week to sell out Giants Stadium(if it is in fact sold out), yet Springsteen sold out 3 shows there in a couple hours and ended up playing 10 shows to satisfy demand. In 1981 the Stones did two shows at JFK Stadium(90,000+) yet seats remain for Wachovia in Philly which is a great market for rock and roll. Regardless of what we are hearing now I think there will be a lot of empty seats in a lot of markets when the tour starts. |

I found this interesting: Giants Stadium was "sold out" for about a week, then suddenly like 2 days ago I was checking on RS.com & more tickets were available. This is after it was already "Sold out" What happened, they FOUND some more seats suddenly? Or they released more tickets? I wonder if 'they' are 'saving' or 'reserving' some x amount ... |

I noticed this as well. Ones like these that come so soon after the public sales is more likely the result of problems with processing orders (for instance, credit cards that didn't go through because someone was over their credit limit) and is not all that surprising for stadium shows considering the number of tickets being sold. From what I can gather there were not a great amount of tickets being sold and they were quickly bought up.
What's interesting are these post sales through the fan club to "sold out" shows. These are allotments being given to the fan club and it's uncertain how many tickets they actually have. If they are reserving or saving tickets, they would be doing it through the fan club post sales.

Tickets went on sale at more
locations today. From what can be
determined, today seems to be mixed.
Here are the results so far:
Fresno (sold out)
Houston (sold out)
Dallas (single tickets at the $400.00
price range)
However
Salt Lake City (many tickets remain)
Denver (many tickets remain)
All the shows that went on sale today
were arena shows
