Saint Sway I see folks here are finally coming to their senses and getting a grip on the FACT that:
• The Stones guitarist have lost it
• The Stones are money whores
• The modern Stones (Steel Wheels > ABB) is a Vegas smoke & mirrors show.
• Ronnie Wood is useless
• The set lists and the band are robotic and going thru the motions on "auto pilot" most nights
• they look like idiots - bad wardrobe, dye jobs...
etc...

unfortunately I've been in many heated debates here with most of you over this in the past, but its comforting to see that most of you have now finally come to terms with the truth about the current state of this band.

(See: Angie Horror thread, 30 Yrs of Ronnie thread, any of the recent show stickies and the increasiing number of comments from RocksOffers about how they are done seeing this band...)

that said, I still absolutely fucking love the Stones and always will. The #1 band in my heart. Even if they are now a shadow of their former greatness.

let the flames begin...

Nellcote Nobody asked but...

The Ten Commandments is an epic movie, the likes of which we will not see made again

Dan Abrams on PMSNBC uses a bad hair coloring

Ever listen to a talk show, and here a millionaire call in on a cell phone that sounds like it was created in the 80's?

US Postal Service is still a buy at .39 cents

I think Frozen Pudding ice cream is only topped by Ginger ice cream

Rory Gallagher is the most unappreciated blues guitarist around. Pick up Irish Tour '74 if you want a great lp..

The J Geils Band belongs in the Rock Hall Of Fame

Funny how Ted Kennedy assails Bush on his energy policy, then votes down a wind turbine plan off of Cape Cod. 1/2 the time he's on the Cape, at his digs, he's "Blinded By Chivas", so what gives?

I still am looking to know...
What type of can are the worms in?
Which arm is holding the apple?
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
Where is that confounded bridge?

Rosie O'Donnell back on tv is a health threat to America

And, for once and for all....

It is Rinse/Lather/Repeat, right?

Ah son, when two people keep repeating the same thing under one thread it doesn't represent "most of you"

Funny thing is The Black Crowes were done years ago and you still can't even figure that out
28th April 2006 04:46 PM
PatrickA They have to get rid of the backing musicians. It's become like a crutch to them. It was refreshing during the superbowl seeing them without them. And i'm sure this has been said before but Mick should start singing on Happy again whenever they perform it. Listen to any old live version and Mick is pretty much singing half of it. It used to be more of a duet than a Keith song live.

You couldn't hear them? They were under the stage ya know.

PatrickA Well they weren't as noticeable to me. I mostly mean the background singers especially when they are high in the mix.

PeerQueer The Stones have aged.

So have you.

We are all gonna die kid.

If they wanna charge $400 tickets and people buy them up, more power to them.

If Mick wants to shake his skinny 62 year old ass and make girls (and guys) aged 16 - 66 squeal in delight- more power to him.

If Kieth wants to enjoy the caricature built around his legendary myth, while still managing some of the most wonderful ballads by ANY artist in the last 20 years, (see: Slipping Away)more power to him.

If Charlie wants to call it quits on large-scale touring to spend more time with family, his Civil War collection, his horses, and his impeccable wardrobe, more power to him.

If Ron wants to succeed in his battle with drink, drug, and smokes, play second fiddle to the immense egos of Mick and Keith, smile and nod when he is so low in the mix as to make a more arrogant guitarist go ballistic (See: Keith at MSG during Licks Tour)and desire to go around the block one more time with his old mate and long time friend Rod, more power to him.

And if you want to keep listening to Stones music pre-Steel Wheels (so you're cool with Dirty Work, eh?)and whine about the current state of the Stones, more power to you.

And if I want to tell you to shut the fuck up, while planning how many European shows I'm gonna catch, how great the American leg of this tour was, how Mick is at 62, the indisputable greatest front man ever, how Keith, when he plays and/or sings, seems to remind me of better days, while thankful for the hope of days to come, while Charlie, post-cancer, mid-sixties, still plays the tightest snare on the planet, and how Ronnie, 30 years into the gig, is a Rolling Fucking Stone, and deserves due credit for helping keep this gig rolling so fans of all ages and walks of life can celebrate in the experience of what that means to each one of us - even those who wish to slag on the fact they are still very much here, who seem to imply they would have been better off dying and/or hanging it up back in the 70's.

I for one, every time I get to see Keith's craggy face break into a smile when he starts into one of his classic rifs, or Mick roll his eyes and laugh - not in sarcasm, but rather incredulity that he and his mates are still here, still doing it, long after their contemporaries have gone the way of the Dodo, or morphed into fat and flabby versions of their former selves, or when Charlie looks to the floor while grinning ear to ear when the crowed gives him his now mandatory loud and sustained applause, or when Ronnie, after doing some wonderful guitar work (which he does far more than some in here are willing to concede - particularly during the last two tours)looks over at Keith who gives him a grudging smile, then over to Mick, who gives him a nod and a point, then back to Ronnie, who smiles gratefully at the acknowledgement of those whose opinion means something (unlike the dipshit "down with Ronnie" contingent in here)

Yup -I like my Stones - alive and well, older wrinkled gents that they are, thank you very much, and am thankful for every show they have ever given me, and every one they will hopefully give me to come.

What's the harm in that?

PatrickA Most fans who question the ability of the current Stones dont really mean to put them down I don't think. They love this band so much that they love to see them put up the best possible performance and most times they do deliver. I think the current Stones puts out fantastic work. The day we don't expect a high quality product and pat them on the back for whatever they do is the day they have truly lost it. That day should still be far off though.

Mel Belli I can't quite take the plunge as far as you, Sway. I've liked all the post-Steel Wheels albums (they're not as good as the Big Four, but they were good enough to justify their existence). The VL and Babylon tours were fantastic and reasonably priced.

As far as I'm concerned, the money-whoring and the performance decline are coterminous with the No Security tour. Ever since, it's been like there's an inverse relationship between how well, or at least how consistently well, they play and how much they charge.

Age and excessive partying finally caught up with Keith and Ronnie. One of the little things I've noticed over the last seven or so years or so is that, aside from the odd new guitar, they haven't done a thing to update their gear. Their amps sound crappier with each new outing. It's not a huge deal in the scheme of things; but it's indicative of how much they're willing to just coast along...

Keith and Ronnie don't put nearly as much effort into maintaining their game as Mick does. People can moan all they want about how Mick's singing is too clean, too manneristic, or whatever, but no one can deny he puts 110% into staying healthy and creative. He shoulders the entire machine, and I think, sadly, that money is the thing that blinds him to the band's steady musical decline.

I agree with you!!! I saw the stones in Baltimore in february, fifth row Keith's side. They played hard, they blew my mind away!!! I watched Gimme Shelter and other videos from the 60's and 70's and I tell you they were not as exciting. They didn't move that much. They know what it is to rock and roll on a fucking stage. With time and experience they have become even better. I saw them 10 feet away from me , sweating, and rocking. To me, rich of that experience, they are still the best band in the world. And for the party poopers, go all of U fuck your fucking selves.

One of the best things about the Ladies & Gentlemen Concert is watching those awesome chorus' where Keith & Mich sing into one microphone - Happy, Dead Flowers, Bye Bye Johnny, etc...

It's called band interaction - I think it's written into the contract that Jagger can't even be on stage during Keith's mini-set

you are living in the past. and living a lie.

ron sucks.

charlie is lazy with his parts.

keith can't play anymore.

mick is the only one that puts in 100% every night.

bobby keys and lisa fisher are better draws than 75% of the remaining rolling stones lineup.

waddy watchell played 75% of the "Keith" guitar on Bridges, that's how much Keith cares these days.

ABB is the overrated.

the american leg of this tour SUCKED in a big way.

setlists are boring and predictable.

tickets are too high.
