more on the possible legal future of these type of sites here :
http://www.allalongthewatchtower.dk/phorum/read.php?6,214989,page=2
the outcome of that US court ruling could be quite interesting
also, surely it wouldnt be a problem for a bit torrent site that wasnt based in the US. (For the record, this site is based in Mexico..) |

the us courts also killed the "anti-bootleg bill" (but i am too tired to go find the link for it right now - i am pretty sure it is linked somewhere in the ezt autopsy over at /.) |

Subject: [bt-easytree-org] EZT Update -- We know who it was now --
Howdy again, folks.
The fax just came in a couple of minutes ago.
The offender was torrent # 30630, NIRVANA 08/30/1992 Reading Festival
Complete PRO Shot DVD. In particular the title "Smells like Teen
Spirit", rightowner: Universal, claimed through Universal Music GmbH,
Germany, and pro MediaGmbH (exclusive partner of IFPI in Germany).
I'll bring the fax to erwe later.
We'll keep you posted about proceeds!
Take care!

First of all: A provider may not give clients names, addresses, or whatever. It's against the law. The provider in question didn't do this but they just send a fax.
Second: It surprises me that they are German lawyers. It's a wellknown fact that in Germany the laws of privacy matters are one of the strongest in Europe. What I mean is that they know they can't do much.
Third: Kazaa. Also P2P, has won his case before the court because downloading is allowed. Only the uploading is against the lay. So a site with torrent information can never be prosecuted. And everybody knows that catching the uploaders by P2P is impossible.
Stay cool,
Erik
Just found out since two weeks the pleasure of torrent. DAMNED.

THIS is the whole question.
Its the topic at the moment in different courts, in
different countries.
And they just might well rule that a provider has to
give the details when their client commits and offence.
It's where it seems to going to here in france anyway...
Holand, so far, has ruled against it.

oh and kazaa won because thet only provide a tool
and have no control over what other people use it for.
They did not win because downloading is legal.

and locating the servers in acountry like this, where the laws protect the users might be the answer to alot of this...

the scary part is, that if you are into live music, the sh*t never stops - i mean, seemingly every time i login, there are several things to pull...
when i split town for a few days, i always wonder what i might have missed...

Mac & Gazza:
You guys stole the words right outta my mouth. And to top it off - bt.dylantree.org has gotten active in the game too - oh, joy! I was seriously relieved that I wouldn't have to monitor this shit so much - I think I'm beginning to develop a couple of twitches. My poor family - and they thought they were getting their bandwidth back - hahahahahaha..... |

keep monitoring, mate.

To Gazza's efforts in creating a torrent stones site:
Ohhhh yeah yeah
Woooo
oh oh
We roll tonight [We're on tonight]
To the guitar bite
Yeah, yeah, oh
Stand up and be counted
For what you are about to receive
We are the dealers
We'll give you everything you need
Hail hail to the good times
'Cause rock has got the right of way
We ain't no legend, ain't no cause
We're just livin' for today
For those about to rock, we salute you
For those about to rock, we salute you
We rock at dawn on the front line
Like a bolt right out of the blue
The sky's alight with the guitar bite
Heads will roll and rock tonight
For those about to rock, we salute you
For those about to rock, we salute you
For those about to rock, we salute you
Yes we do
For those about to rock, we salute you
Oooh, salute!
Oooh, ooooh yeah
We're just a battery for hire with a guitar fire
Ready and aimed at you
Pick up your balls and load up your cannon
For a twenty-one gun salute
For those about to rock - fire
We salute you
For those about to rock, we salute you
Those about to rock - fire
We salute you
Fire
We salute you
We salute you
Come on, whooa
For those about to rock, we salute you (x4)
Shoot, shoot (x2)
For those of you, for those who take
Yeah
(Ain't gonna get tired, won't take a break, we salute you.)
We salute you (x3)
Fire
