glencar I loved BTB. Definitely the best since '81. As for the upcoming product, I don't hold out much hope but, OH WHAT THE FUCK!!!!! Of course, I'm hoping & wishing for another masterpiece. I love the Stones & I expect they've got their collective mojo back.

Smart Man !!!!!

Individuals in their Mid - 60's are INCAPABLE of writing anything memorable ( Pete Townshend being the lone exception )

Now , with your indulgence , I thought that I would DANCE for all of you this morning :

" Please don't talk about love tonight
Please don't talk about sweet sweet love
Please don't talk about being true
And all the trouble we've been through
Ah, please don't talk about all of the plans
We had for fixin' this broken romance
I want to go where the people dance
I want some action…I want to live!
Action… I got so much to give
I want to give it. I want to get some too .......

***** Joey gets up from his chair and begins to do the " Two - Step " in his little cubicle ********

Oh, i…ohhh i…ilove the nightlife,
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the nightlife,
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea .......

Please don't talk about love tonight
Your sweet talking won't make it right

Love and lies just bring me down when you've got women all over town
You can love them all and when you're through
Maybe that'll make, huh, a man out of you
I got to go where the people dance
I want some action…I want to live!

Action…I got so much to give
I want to give it. I want to get some too .........

***** Joey again gets up from his chair and begins to do the " Two - Step " in his little cubicle ********

Oh, I love the nightlife,
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the nightlife,
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh...I love the nightlife,

I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea… "

sirmoonie There are other signs that this album may be something special. There were various reports that they were writing and recording during the Licks tour and, with a few exceptions, most of us agreed that the Stones were particularly energized on Licks like they hadn't been in decades.

They sure were acting like a band that wasn't just going through the motions - CYHMK, club shows, screechies, Love Train, AC/DC duo-jams, world wide tour, benefit shows, giant ass firebombs bursting in air, varied set lists, album oriented shows, etc. If they keep that enthusiasm going, and actally got some work done in 02-03, this could be at least an album very different than VL - an album that shows effort and concern for quality, IMHMFGDO.

Bizarro JB What's next?...you gonna post my name and address on the board like Joey did Maxy?...That is Joey's shame...that is what he has to live with...it is unforgiveable and deserves the scorn off all who encounter him...

And I'll tell ya...at the risk of getting myself banned from this board...the admins should have banned Joey the second after they found out about him posting Maxy's personal information on the board...next to death threats, there is no more reprehensible behavior on an internet message board...

Your secret is safe with me my friend! I am so thrilled with the possibility of making it into The Hall! My god is there a greater honor than inclusion into The Hall?! If there is I sure as hell don't know about it,and frankly,I don't want to know about it!

I can safely say that I am so excited by this news that I am typing this with my coworker's nipples! She is hot as hell too. What? Oh,yeah....well....I'd say silver dollars,or maybe fiffty cent pieces. You could hang tea cups off of them! She's excited too.

I'm not so sure. Something tells me (namely his next to zero output in the last decade) that Keith's songwriting chops could well and truly be washed up. I still think Mick is capable of it, though. here's hoping that writing together has given Keith plenty of inspiration and he gets plenty of "incoming" on his 'antenna'

I mean this in all seriousness, so don't take it for a knock. Keith has gotten old. I take him at his word that he's had enough rock, "Where's the roll?" and all that. He's shown far more interest over the last few years in doing things like "How Can I Stop" and "Losing My Touch" and "Nearness of You."

So maybe he should go all the way and make a Rod Stewart-type traditional American pop album. It's clear he doesn't like distortion on his guitars anymore. And he doesn't actually play half the time he has one in his hands.

In his heart of hearts, Keith would rather be a full-time crooner.

Fiji Joe "In his heart of hearts, Keith would rather be a full-time crooner."

Sadly, I think that's true...
March 23rd, 2005 06:13 PM
corgi37 It just proves that they all bull-shitted us when they said they had heaps of stuff. Lots of virtually completed tracks, ready to go, with just a bit of polish.

Keith is sad. He's just too lazy. In a live situation, i think its different. You know he loves being up there. But, it damn obvious he cant be in the slightest bothered to come up with anything. B2B i adored, but Waddy Wachtel did alot of stuff on that. Did he contribute more than Keith?

Seems Keith just likes to sit down and croon, or swap stupid old jokes with Ronnie by long dead Pommy comedians.

Jagger's solo stuff smells like a dead dogs anus. But, at least the guy is creative.

Keith is more than happy to play the stuff he knows so well, tour around every few years, pocket the enourmous amounts of dough, and just sit on his laurels.

I am hanging for some new stuff. I hope its brilliant. But, what ever it is, it will be their last studio album.
March 23rd, 2005 08:33 PM
sirmoonie I wish I heard in VL what you guys hear. It starts off nice with LIS, which Keith borrowed from a solo album, but then its all filler and 1 or 2 just all around losuy songs.

Its also the end of the road for Keith Richards as a song writer. Its over. He's been writing two songs for over a decade now. One is a tuneless rocker called Rock and a Hard Place/You Got Me Rocking/Sparks Will Fly/I Go Wild, etc. The other is a "crooner" as Melvin referred to, and its called Slipping Away/The Worst/Thru and Thru/How Can I Stop/Losing My Touch. A true work in regress.
March 23rd, 2005 10:34 PM
Bob Tamp Let's keep it positive on the new album. Let's hope Keith has some great things stored up to put on it.

So in your opinion, you would rather have Keith writing books, composing boring music for granny, performing tiny private gigs singing "Girl of The North Country" instead of his efforts with the greatest Rock'n'Roll band in the world?!?!

Come on people. It's such an unfair comment. Even if eventually Keith misses "Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" chord progression, or even if, as you said previously, his attempts on soloing tend to sound like a slow motion act. whatever......I admire this hero, my biggest ambition, my model, my parameter, my aim......... I admire this brave artist for sharing his passion and thoughts with us for more than 40 years.

Bob Dylan -- I assume that's whom you're referring to -- has hardly limited himself to "tiny private gigs." Taking the Washington, D.C., area as a example, in the last three years Dylan has played the MCI Center arena (18,000 or so) the Warner Theater (about 3,000 capacity) the 9:30 Club (about 1,000), a gig on the campus of American University (not sure of capacity), and a minor-league ballpark.

That's the sign of a guy who wants to play to his audience as broadly -- old and young, wealthy and middle-class -- and as often as possible. In D.C., you can't find two venues more unlike each other than the Warner and the 9:30, and Dylan did them in the space of a weekend.

The Stones, admirably, have opened up to playing smaller-size houses, but they did so only in a few select major cities. The theater gigs, at least here in the States, were the punchline of a very clever ad campaign ("Small, medium and large..."), not a full-fledged attempt to get closer to their audience.

I mean, taking D.C. again, why the hell would you choose the gargantuan FedEx Field as your starting point and dangle the possibility of smaller gigs if the stadium sells out? They could've sold out the Warner and MCI, no sweat. But that's contra-Cohlianism. The Stones will give you intimacy only when they've milked the biggest shed in your (major) town for all it's worth.

Someone aptly pointed out during the Licks tour that the Stones could play 3,000-seat theaters all over the country -- in Fargo, North Dakota, say, if they wanted to. But what good would that do for them financially? *That's* the difference between the Stones and Dylan.
