Topic: ABB: Straight forward Rock n Stones, from Ian Return to archive Page: 1 2
12th March 2007 06:56 AM
IanBillen I love this album for it's dead ahead style. It sounds like a mixture of:

Undercover - Dirty Work - Some Girls as far as sound goes.

....with a dash of exile in the fuzzy rocker "Rough Justice" and the bluesy "Back of My Hand".

It drives it home and never gets complex at all like Bridges. Just very basic hard hitting type Stones.

It sounds very "digital" sounding in terms of the recording production. Actually mechanical at times. Nothing rich, Nothing Warm, or textured as Voodoo was.

It is simplistic in song-writing yet the songs are all good.

I love it because as it goes along it keeps getting more driving and harder hitting as it goes towards the end.

Any thoughts. I know we have discussed it a thousand times but I think The Stones needed a straight forward style album with basically....no frills this time.

Saint Sway ABB is one of Micks better solo albums. (which is like saying its one of Joeys finer turds)

I'd rank it between Shes The Boss and GITD

Ah, come on, at the very least it's Mick's best solo album!

I prefer Wandering Spirit by a long shot to ABB

Honky Tonk Man A Bigger Bang? What is that? Oh it was the Stones last effort! I'd forgotten! Ian. nove on, or in the case of Jagger and co's creative output, move backwards!

WS doesn't have "Sweet Neo Con," I'll grant you that; but it does lack a certain Keith Richards.

jb Probably the most disappointed I have been with a new album since Steel Wheels...mucho hype, and I remember coming to the board when we got an advance copy of SOL, and realized, these guys really do suck now.

Mel Belli Good to have you back, jb

Jumacfly The beginning of the end for me:

no decent guitar solo

only a few good songs(rough, ONNYA, Laugh, Let me down,..)
ABB could be a correct mini lp but not a decent record!!!

no bass lines (Bill is seriously missed here)

a real lack of creativity with the poorest riffs ever played (she saw me cumming)

Where is Ronnie??? on 3 songs?? that sucks for a Stones album. Wandering spirit was far better.

for the first time in years they sound....old!!

the design : lame.black and white with 2 pics.
It shouts "DL me please!!

the new tongue: ugly.

SOL: Lamer than last U2 single.

my 2 cents.
The "Coked up" years are so far....

ME THREE!

Soldatti A generic and weak album overall, it could end as their worst ever. ABB makes albums as DW or UC sound like classics from start to finish. She Saw Me Coming is the most embarrassing Rolling Stones song ever.
12th March 2007 06:11 PM
Poison Dart ABB isn't that bad. On the other hand it isn't that good either.

All and all it's one of their weaker albums. Something about it reminds of of Emotional Rescue.

If they had cut all the filler out (Driving too Fast, Look What the Cat Dragged In,Biggest Mistake, Streets of Love,She Saw me Coming, Rain Fall Down)it would have been a solid record.

It was too damm long.

Plus, Mick has to get it through his head nobody wants to hear pop (SOL,SSMC etc,) from men pushing 70 singing about their "cocks"

They need to make a serious non commercial record in the vein of Johnny Cash's (that would take more balls than they have at this point)last few records.

This record needs to be full of blues (Back of My Hand) jazz type stuff (How can I Stop) and a couple of convincing rockers.
12th March 2007 09:35 PM
Bloozehound the album blows, a total disappointment on so many levels

I truely wish they'd just released another greatest hits album with 3 of the pre-released teasers (RJ, BOMH, and ONNYA) tacked on ala 40 Licks, so that we'd still be sitting around convinced they still HAD IT

Go figure. She Saw Me Coming is one of may favorite tracks on the album. The lyrics are tossed off, I'll admit, but everything else rocks my rocker.

Zack How on earth did we get sucked back into this?

I have this to say: Ian, you are American right? We like compound words like straightforward, not straight forward. Get with the program.

ABB? Early retirement.
13th March 2007 03:00 AM
IanBillen
Yeah I am American. Which means my ancestors are from every corner of the planet....

Anyway:

I am AMAZED at how everyone now says ABB sucks??? When it came out it was the best thing since sliced bread for the most part around here. Nine out of ten people on the board loved it.

Now, as usual, the slagging has ensued full throttle. Might as well slagg (even though it rocks and we all know it).

"Rain Fall Down" is filler???

Maybe it's boredom, mabe it's stupidity.

This one perplexes me.
