Great posting!

Eddie Hinton seems to have more going on in Australia than he does here!

Are you familiar with Raven Records? They are a great Australian reissue label and should be putting out a definitive Eddie Hinton comp soon . . . or perhaps that's it? I was supposed to do the liner notes for a Little Richard comp of his early 70s material, which rocks, but they couldn't get the rights together. Anyway, they just put out an amazing comp of this insane 60s blue eyed soul shouter named Wayne Cochran that is pure dynamite. Their Sir Douglas Quintet reissues are also aces.

Anyway, currently, the new Bassholes records (Bassholes) is absolutely lock stock and barrel rocking my world.

Also the new live Neko Case, which I finally bothered to listen to, despite the fact that her show with the Sadies I saw last year would have easily been in my top five had I bothered to quantify, is excellent.

So:

stonedinaustralia thanks nasty and hey there

yes am familiar with Raven records

it's been ages since i listened to "bangkok" now i can't get it out of the player - well except to get a reggae fix

as you noted above, peter tosh during his time with the wailers is heavy weight material

i saw alex chilton about 8/9 years ago small club with no more then 300 people - he opened with "Volare" (yes, the dean martin tune) - then he basically got the audience to pick the set list for him as he took requests

he's one of the great voices of rock and roll IMO and that gig would rank in my top 5 of all the thousands i've seen - 'tho it's funny, that verse in "bangkok" that goes:

"Margaret Trudea
Jackie O
Madame Nu
and Bridgette Bardot
Bangkok"

when he sings that , the tone of his voice reminds me of the way "Snake" in the Simpsons talks

and just off topic nasty i read for the first time the other day that "Thunder Road" was filmed in and around Asheville - will have to track it down and watch it with that in mind

Nasty Habits I love Alex Chilton so much. I have seen him play a set similar to the one you describe, doing ragged versions of soul/rock/country standards. His version of Jan and Dean's "New Girl in School" is enough to make a body weep with joy. I absolutely adore the Like Flies on Sherbet record, one of the most ragged, out of it, insane rock and roll albums of all. Haven't listened to Bankok proper in a while and that sounds like a good one to get up and get out.

Have you heard the Tosh material he was cutting solo in the late 60s while Marley was trying to maybe become a pop star in America, like Brand New Second Hand or Jumbie Jamboree? It's all comped on a CD called "The Toughest" and it sure is. That guy is just threatening sounding, even on ska/rock steady pop type stuff.

You're absolutely right, bh, the only Raven Sahm CD is 1+1+1 = 4/Doug Saldana -- I thought there were others, but there aren't. Do you have it though? It's pretty close to perfect. The other great Mercury SDQ recordings (Together After Five and Mendocino) are on Acadia with bonus cuts (the stuff that showed up on the Rough Cuts LP.

Currently: The Nervous Eaters.

I hate to admit it but no I don't have any of them. I've never had the fortune of running across them when I'm in the buying mood, his stuff is sorta hard to find, especially the early stuff

I'm a big Sahm fan though, so I'll continue to keep an 3y3 out for them, thanks for the heads up

mac_daddy hmm - a double-post (several days apart, too)

anyway - now i am listening to clapton's first album, as mixed by delany. do any of you have the "crossroads" boxset..? i would love to get d2t10, which is the delany mixed "sfter midnight" - it was not included in the torrent as it has been officially released...

_____

"The Unsurpassed Eric Clapton"
Delany Mix of his Fist Solo Album (plus two bonus tracks)

Silver CD > Nero > WAV > FLAC

This is the alternate Delany mix (from Delany & Bonnie) of Clapton's 1st solo release (1970)
Lots of horns in the mix that were subsequently dropped off when the album was pressed which
is a shame since it brings an entirely different punchier feel to the collection. Preferable.

1. Slunky
2. Bad Boy
3. Lonesome And A Long Way From Home
4. After Midnight*
5. Blues Power
6. Bottle of Red Wine
7. Lovin' You Lovin' Me
8. Told You For The Last Time
9. Don't Know Why
10. Let It Rain
11. Easy Now
BONUS TRACKS
12.Lonesome And A Long Way From Home (#2)
13. Don't Know Why (#2)

liberated bootleg released 1993 on Yellow Dog Records (YDCD 022)

* Track 4 not included in torrent as was released on
Crossroads Box Set (Disk 2 / Track 10) as After Midnight (Alternate Mix)

Nasty Habits Certain Chicks ('78 Outtakes)

Hadn't listened to this in like a million years. WOAH! What a great bunch of songs and performances! Jagger's alternate "Tops" vocal is hilarious and "Spare Parts" is a monstrously good song. Sort of a Jagger-penned "Through the Lonely Nights" sequel . . . and where else are you going to hear the STONES trip through Tallahassee Lassie, You Win Again and Linda Lu?

Does anyone know if these songs are available in significantly improved sound over Certain Chicks? The songs are great but the disc is obviously missing some top end . . .
