BONO ASKS BUSH FOR AID
Campaigning U2 frontman BONO is urging US president GEORGE W BUSH to donate an extra one per cent of America's federal budget to the world's poor.
The ELEVATION superstar quoted from Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts in a bid to persuade the US leader to increase the aid budget at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC yesterday (02FEB06).
Bono says, "Where you live should no longer determine whether you live."
Bush praised the singer as a "doer" but failed to agree to the $26 billion (GBP14.6 billion) plea.

I disagree. I am convinced that Bono has nothing but the best of intentions. Perhaps from your perspective, he seems conceited or too much of a do-gooder, but, he brings so much global awareness to the problems in the world. It's not like he makes profit, or capitalizes on his do-gooding. You would have a better argument, if Bono made a nickel for every child he saves.. but Bono doesnt receive any proceeds from dying AIDS victims or developing worlds.

Bono is not interested in saving self-destructing nations like the United States. Write an email to FEMA, or the governor of Louisiana, or Mayor Brown, or even G.W. for ignoring the requests.
Why would Bono want to help a country that cant help itself? It's tough enough trying to help all the other countries that the States have hurt/destroyed/exploited. Why would he want to help "the enemy"?
There's a really good book you ought to read by Immanuel Wallerstein, entitled "The Decline of American Power". Its brilliant.

Amazing post! I totally agree.
But I think people get angry when they don't see instant improvements of the situation; it will take time.
I don't think Bono/Geldof et al get money out of it directly, but it will improve their profile, and therefore album sales. And also, obviously their ego's receive a massage in the process, but I guess there is no harm in that  |

We have given the palestinians over 1 billion in aid and they electg Hamas...I suggest the aid given to Israel is not b/c of any love for the Jewish State, but of great strategic importance as the only democracy in the middle-east. Israel helps the US with intelligence and the US, in return, provides Israel with aid to ensure it's survival agaisnt nations that openly call for it's destruction. There are no words that can adequately describe what a depraved, hypocritical, self-absorbed, ahole Bono is. Usually I can ignore idiots like him, but for some reasons he just gets under my skin. I have a better idea: how about if BONO donates more of his own mega millions to the worlds poor. He can pick and choose which corrupt African dictator to give his money to, and then watch it all go to the dictator, not the people that need it, just like the U.S. does every year. |
