Ten Thousand Motels Personally I think it's their greatest record....since the one before that at least.
18th January 2008 05:02 PM
Dan Neither. In most cases, it's rated exactly how it is.

Agreed.

I don't find anything really good or really bad about it.
18th January 2008 05:18 PM
Ten Thousand Motels Unfortunately the best songs are the ballads. The rockers are okay/mediocre. A couple of the ballads are prime A1 stuff but can't really carry the album.
18th January 2008 05:26 PM
Some Guy I seem to have lost or misplaced it and I'm ok with it.

No way! "Oh No Not You Again" was their best song in ages.

I can't fault that post.

BILL PERKS IT ROCKS;ROUGH JUSTICE REALLY ROCKS

ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS DROP NEOCON AND LET ME DOWN SLOW AND ADD UNDER THE RADAR AND IT WOULD BE AS GOOD TO ME AS DIRTY WORK.
18th January 2008 05:53 PM
speedfreakjive Let Me Down Slow has grown on me, good intro and solo

steel driving hammer It's the best thing since Undercover.

Maybe even Voodoo Lounge but not really.

The damm thing just about Rules.
18th January 2008 06:11 PM
Mr Jurkka Its good album.. Oh not you again rocks live! Rough Justice rocks live! Street of love is very good ballad! Neon ceon.. not so good.. It wont take long is one of the best songs in that record!

But its a quite similiar to Bridges to Babylon.

Olompali For all their billions and media hype...the Rolling Stones are way underrated.
ABB included.
18th January 2008 06:27 PM
Navin 'Let Me Down Slow' borrows the chorus from 'Out Of Time' - that descending "baby, baby, baby" line...I think this was mentioned sometime during the album release itself.
18th January 2008 06:52 PM
fireontheplatter i haven't listened to it in months..perhaps i'll do it front to back before the games this weekend.
i just got all excited when they were saying its going to be the next exile on main street and when i listened to it for the 1st time i was like.......erm.

i do like like about 6-7 songs off it tho. underated/overated......who said that?
18th January 2008 06:57 PM
Dan I listened to it every day for a month or so after it came out but then never listened to it again.
18th January 2008 07:02 PM
Some Guy I seemed to have misplaced it

Jaggers delivery sucks,agreed

mrhipfl I think it's a good album that had the potential to be great had they used a real bassist and written some better lyrics. I thought that both ONNYA and RJ were way better on the album than they were live. IMO that's mostly due to the in your face production of the album.
18th January 2008 10:17 PM
Soldatti Totally overrated on Stones boards, two/three times a week a thread about it when almost nobody outside the fanbase gives a fuck.
The album concept is "let's sound like the Stones" with a couple of (un)hip songs here and there and mostly old-fashioned material, lame lyrics, generic guitar playing, no bass (a loud pro-tool mix is not bass), drums too loud...the mix sucks in a word.

It includes two of the 5 worst Stones ever recorded: She Saw Me Coming (their worst song ever) and Sweet NeoCon.

If we cut the crap (hard work) we can make a 10 song album "almost decent", still I would rank any album post TY over it.
18th January 2008 10:23 PM
Glimmer Twin I think it's an excellent album. Not their best ever, but up there. Best album since Tattoo You.
18th January 2008 10:45 PM
Gimme Shelter I thought it was very underrated. To me it rocks as much now as when I first heard it. I think its great.
18th January 2008 11:49 PM
Kilroy I like it , I'd say underrated. It's the album when I got a chance to see em, and that means a lot. As an album I like it cause I feel it's a Stone Album in the same vein as "Exhile". I don't think it's as good but I can hear in it were they seem to try to capture that feeling and flow. I don't think they did it. Since there are others that did not get to experience Exhile when it was brand new, ABB might
ring the bell as Exhile did for a lot of us, I hope so. Most of the Songs on ABB are well written and performed. I like when they do those cheeky lyrics. Look what The Cat Dragged In, It Won't take Long and a few others could be from that Exhile recording period,But Bill's not there on Bass, is he. That's the difference IMO. Had he been on the recording I believe it would in later year be considered one of their very best of their recordings. Hear we go now............................

The Wick Overrated to the extreme and over produced like most of Was's stuff with the Stones. Although that's probably more Jagger. Couple good tracks but otherwise disappointing. I still think Voodoo Lounge is the best one overall since Undercover with Steel Wheels close behind although I like Steel Wheels more on some days. The best thing about ABB is that it's better than Bridges but that isn't saying much.
19th January 2008 01:10 AM
time is on my side I think it's underrated. Let's face it. The classic Stones of yesteryear, of glory days gone by, are finished. In all likelyhood kaput. If anyone is waiting for those STONES to re-emerge and suddenly materialize in the studio after all these years, my guess is there in for a long wait. It's just not going to happen.

What one gets instead is a good interesting album. Not great, just good. ABB. Their best album since TY. Sure it's a flawed album. Why was Sweet neocon included?? I can appreciate the sentiment but the song itself just sucks. Why include two Keith songs when both are just average. The album is too long for my taste. Shave off 5 songs and include Under the Radar and you got a much improved, tighter album. Let the leftovers be bootlegged. Songs that are bootlegged tend to take a life of their own anyway.

I've been listening to Beggar's Banquet, EOMS and Rolled Gold. You know the classic STONES. It's been awhile since I've played ABB. I think I'll listen to it tomorrow. It's a good album. Now those classic STONES. I can't get enough of those guys.

Better'n that Voodoo lounge junk but not quite up to Emo Rescue vintage. Takes time, I say.
