Dan The Police (full set)
Pearl Jam (not longer than an hour)
Tom Waits
Modest Mouse
Neko Case

In a field somewhere close by would be a killer lineup. Will have to wait for reports from Police shows early in the tour before I set my level of dedication.

What's the deal with this thing anyways? Did it start in Australia? I thought it was like, Lollapalooza for non-living-in-the-his-indie-world-past youngsters....

Started in East Bumfuck TN, United States of Amerkuh.

First one in 02 was primarily a jam band festival - Trey, Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, Gov't Mule, Phil & Friends, Disco Biscuits, Robert Randolph, Umphrey's McGee, Donna The Buffalo - and essentially it still is, but since then they've incorporated other genres, too.

Promoters realized that Trustafarians weren't the only ones eager to spend a few days baking - literally and figuratively - at some big ol' farm in the middle of nowhere.

Dylan, Neil & The Horse, Petty, Elvis Costello, Radiohead, Beck, Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, Buddy Guy, James Brown, Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, John Prine, Drive By Truckers, Wilco, Son Volt, Kings Of Leon, Old 97's, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and tons of other acts have played there in the last couple of years.

Safe to say it's THE festival in the US these days...

Sir Stonesalot I think SheRat has Bonaroo confused with the Aussie "Big Day Out" festival.

See, THIS is what I thought. Like, it was some hackey-sacking youngsters listening to Widespread Panic and being all, like, non-aggro.

I don't know where the Australian connection came in.

Riffhard Bonnaroo sounds like a good show, but, and it is a massively HUGE BUT,you have to put up with a bunch of little jam band,I-need-a-miracle,patcholie reaking,sheep-like socialists, clueless, noodle dancing, cyrstal hawking, brown rice burrito selling, acid dropping, nitrous balloon sucking, living in their own clueless perception of the flower power halcyon days of the 1960's,tie dyed sportin',whiteboy/girl with dreds wearing,Berkinstocked, fucktards that absolutly ruined the last ten years of the Grateful Dead's carreer. These assclowns are the bane of any decent rock and roll festival, and because of them I refuse to go to any of these things.

I saw the Dead over 100 times from the late 1970's through the death of Jerry in 1995,and once Touch Of Grey came out in 1987 it was all over. These asshats took a very cool scene and totally wrecked it. Fuck the scene, and fuck them. I shant be there, and I'll be all the more happy for having missed it,and not having to put up with those intellectual midgets! Thank you.

So your not going Riffy?
19th January 2007 03:01 PM
Saint Sway true Riffy.

but that said, I'll take being at a show surrounded by that scene over being surrounded by balding, fat 50 year-olds who have pissed their khakis because they started drinking at happy hour and still think and act like their back at the frat and are falling drunk all over everybody, spilling and yapping about who knows what the fuck to their other drunken buddy thru every damn song

stoned people dont bother me at a show. Drunken assholes do.

ha probably... all I know is I am constantly surrounded by this type at any show by a 'classic' rock band that draws out the baby boomers

note to babyboomers:
I get it.... your excited you hired a sitter for the night and the wife let you go out and you get to hear songs from the greatest hits album you bought in high school and you want to blow off steam and live it up for your one night out of the month - OK, fine - just dont get polluted to the point that you're a slurring/staggering idiot that is infringing on my space and good time

definately true (see my above post)

drunken assholes are rampant at all shows. I think it bothers me a little more when I see some who's old enough to know better than the twenty-something thats still generally an overall idiot and still isnt quite old/mature enought to have gotten the bafoonery out of his system yet

but, yeah, it definately effects all ages at all shows

simple rule: if your so drunk that your a slurring/staggering mess than go home. You shouldnt be out in public ruining other peoples time

I also hate that if I spark up at a show, security is on my ass in nano seconds but a guy can be falling over, shouting and bothering people the entire show and security doesnt do a thing

its tough to get a sitter and its tougher to get the wife to let you go!!! the singing ruffles me too but you gotta live and let live. individual liberty is what its about the good the bad and the ugly

pdog in general, i'm finding more and more people are being assholes and idiots...
The biggest assholes being, IMO, the 30 to 45 yuppie type. Usually a liberal fuckwit, who grew up entitled and spoiled. Everyone I know has had these fuckwits try to rip them off, they're cheap, impatient, selfish and annoying as all hell. Throw in booze and you have the biggest assholes on the planet.
I draw this off my job, these are the only people who have ever refused to pay me. and they're morons too. They do this and walk into their house or Apt.... You call the cops and have to waste time to get paid. Happens to me at least 6 times a year... sadly this isn't unique to me, all taxi drivers I know have this same experience in SF. We call them "The Marina People". Crackheads are more reliable and pleasant than these fucksticks!
Upper middle class, white people... Who'd have thunk!
And... young conservatives seem to be the coolest, along with young trendy hipster types. Go figure!
